Cali_Ed Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 Hello guys, So here is my problem, I have two bolts one that came with my barrel a a jp match bolt. I also have a shadow ops weaponry bolt that came with my bcg. Is there really any difference between the two of these in the sense of possible accuracy? Or are they both gtg? Given my jp is already head spaced and the shadow bolt is nib. Thanks I hope this made sense typed it up on my phone.
edgecrusher Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 I would use the one headspaced to the barrel.
Cali_Ed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Report Posted June 5, 2014 I could get the other one headspace aswell. So that the whole tho g can stay nib or does it make a diffrence?
survivalshop Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) You can check the head space with the other bolt & keep it as a spare , but run the one that came with the barrel , as said above . Edited June 5, 2014 by survivalshop
Cali_Ed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Report Posted June 5, 2014 So I don't need the guages to check it? And ok seems like I'll be running the jp bolt
98Z5V Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 So I don't need the guages to check it? Yeah, you need gauges to check it.
survivalshop Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 Just to clarify , if the bolt came with your JP barrel , more than likely it was head spaced by JP. The Shadow Ops bolt needs to be checked for head space in the JP barrel or any other barrel.
Cali_Ed Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 I installed the jp one, nice and lubed haha
Masgtions99 Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Headspacing is one missunderstood subject. The headspacing is set by the barrel extension when it is manufactured and assembled. Most major manufactures will give you the specs they used when building the combination. I've found that headspacing isues are a rare occasion but the Motto I was taught way back when was "When it doubt check it out" A a local smith will usually check the headspace for cheap, much cheaper than the gauges usually! I would run by one with your new bolt and have it checked then you know youv'e got a new spare!
