Anyone know where I can get a 5 round DPMS style .308 mag?
ryantowry_81 replied to TacBlade's topic in General Discussion
Still ironic the 4 rounders are 40 bucks and the 20's are 20-30 dollars -

they have them here: http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=4743&cat=1512 but they are spendy! i have seen the remington cammo ones floating around too but they are also 45 bucks. i ahve been looking not cause i am forced to have 5 rounds but it dosn't fit in my scabbard with a 20 rounder hanging out and i would love to have a 5 rounder so i dont have to hike with it empty.... -
Bushmaster Adds 308 Win Chambering to Carbine Line-Up
ryantowry_81 replied to imschur's topic in Bushmaster
I am glad i am not the only one that prizes weight and accuracy over the fact that it is a newer design. I have actually had a couple die hard m14 guys shoot my rifle since getting it and they have all been shocked by the weight ease of shooting and accuracy mine has compared to the 21" rm14 and the socom. My rifle has out shot both ( non national match models to be fair) -
Bushmaster Adds 308 Win Chambering to Carbine Line-Up

good to see another alaskan on here! PM me if you ever want to go shoot, i am out in palmer by the fairgrounds. I was in sportsmans in wasilla and noticed they had more for sale out there for the same price as of last weekend if you know anyone else looking! i dont know how they get away with it! -
You know now that you put it that way that makes sense, but more energy at the muzzle still means more recoil. I just wonder if it is still fun to shoot, I mean anything is shootable once but repeatedly is another story haha
-
Yeah there is lots of good ballistics data out there but from the reviews I have read the recoil is pretty severe. I do like the idea of the 338 I am just wondering if they have loaded the cases too hot if it will still be accurate if that makes sense. I mean they are pushing a 200 grain faster than the usual 147 grain 308 comes out so they must be loading something hot with the same case size.
-
anyone played around with the 338 federal? from the balistic numbers looks like alot of round out of a ar platform, anyone actually shot one? i was thinking it would be nice for larger game up here in alaska, been thinking abut the 458 socom but i would perfer a little better down range the federal would give.

Whats your favorite style or type of semi auto pistol?
ryantowry_81 replied to imschur's topic in Handguns
that is such a loaded question...... that is like asking which set of breasts a man likes to see best, it would take less time to list the ones he does not like.... <laughs> personally the only ones i have shot and not really liked are taurus sub compacts, never really felt good shooting them. If i had to pick a favorite it would be my glock 20 for its durability and i love 10mm and for carry my kahr pm45 -
.308 AR Free Float Tubes, Hand Guards, Quadrails
ryantowry_81 replied to imschur's topic in .308AR Parts
I really like the dpms carbon fiber free float tubes but my bushy is a midlength so no dice for me. I have been contemplating getting the rifle length and custom fitting it but that is too much money for me to cut up. -
Man I wish it was 54 degrees at night here right now. We went out looking for moose last weekend and got snowed on and got to camp in -5 all night!

Which .308 Upper For My DPMS Lower
ryantowry_81 replied to bk1's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion

Which .308 Upper For My DPMS Lower
ryantowry_81 replied to bk1's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
i would not be afraid of the "heavy contour" barrel. mine has that and it is not really that heavy. i think it is there fancy way of justifying not putting the m-4 notch in it.... if it was me i would not sell one rifle for 750 to go buy another one for 1200 when you could keep the 750 dollar rifle and then get a 640 upper and be in a total similar to buying just the one newer armalite and have two uppers you can setup differently for different moods/purposes. my dream is to get one upper that has a 20" or so fluted heavy barrel with a break for long long range shooting and then keep my 16" for hunting and closer range that way you can get the best of both worlds out of one gun... just my 2 cents though.... -

i would get this one over the AP4: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=361133 cheaper and about the same configuration. -

ryantowry_81 replied to bk1's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
yeah that upper cost the same as i paid for my bushmaster orc which has a crome lined 16" barrel and does not have the silly m-4 cut in the barrel. web site says 7.75 unloaded and 1.5 for loaded mag but i put mine on the scale with scope and mag and it weighted in at 8.75 loaded.... -
Favorite Rifle Scope Under $500, $1000, $2000
ryantowry_81 replied to imschur's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
I really like my nikon monarch 3-12x42 I have one on the bushmaster 16" 308 and my rem 700 7pm and great optics and the 7pm has kept zero forthe last 7 years of hunting including two falls out of a truck onto the ground. That scope has hunted three states and flown 4 times also. I am sold. Also on the cheaper side of your scale for 400 bucks -
I own 3 and have to say have been nothing but pleased with all three strait out of the box and hate to say but have even dropped one onto concrete loaded and had not had a problem. I do know I was strongly cautioned by a dozen gun shop owners never to mess with the trigger on the 700 rifles for the fear of accidental discharge, I always saw merit in that unless I knew exactly what to do but also thought the urgency of the warnings was also somewhat swayed by their trying to drum up business.

mine is the same except i use some hard cast lead.

thats cool i have spent time on both doing work. not what you are thinking, i am a powerplant engineer. i helped design the new improved greely backup generators right next to the old nuke (i tell you it is kind of un nerving to have the job shack placed right next to a nuklear containments site you get to stare at for a couple months.....). we also did some boiler work on rich. it is beautiful up near delta in the summer but the winters are way too harsh for me... we live in palmer just north of fort rich out of the "city" if you can call anchorage that.... funny how i think anchorage is a giant city huh? conditioning i guess...

Yeah up here in Alaska I don't worry about having any smaller than my pm45 cause it never gets warm enough up here to not wear a shirt haha and the pm45 fits in my pocket real easy. Then there is open carry, which I know is not a viable option in some areas where it would cause some scare but every one up here is pretty used to guns when there are blacks and grizzlys that wonder through town once and a while. I also have my ruger redhawk 44 I open carry when I feel I need more than the 45 acp.
-
What base were you on? I had to acclimate to the light swings when I first came up but I tell you it is sweet to go wheeling and shooting and having 22 hours of light to play with. I get slot done in the summer but not so much in the winter when it is -30 outside...
-
My number one rule of carry guns is to get the most gun you know you will carry everywhere with you. By most I mean most stopping power, most rounds, and most practiced.
-
Yeah I figured the only support I would get from here is what to buy next and to ask for forgiveness and not permission. Thanks for the welcomes guys! When I get some time I will post some pics of the guns and some Alaska views
-
If you want a carry gun with some knock down look into the kahr pm45. My wife bought me one for a wedding present and it is amazing. Size of my wallet and still shoots 45 comfortably.
-
yeah i have to say i miss deer hunting, the only deer out here to hunt you have to fly to and if i am going to pay for a flight i am going to adak for caribou. maybe if i get a moose one of you would be willing to trade some moose meat and halibut and salmon for some venison? diversity is good in my opinion <laughs>

What else is money for? Besides beer and guns and hunting?
