P man your checklist is right here in this thread! why dont you print out this thread and use it for a checklist....you started asking questions and were not clear on what was going on at first....there is no ar308 for dummies book....getting an ar 308 to run isnt rocket science either....if you cant figure it out after all the good suggestions in this forum then I suggest you take it to a gunsmith...although he prolly wont know crap about an ar308 either :)) Wash

Hi Kilt frog lube has worked nice for me....i guess ive used em all over the years.....it works well.....but heres the thing, all of my four 308's work fine without the dripping wet syndrome....ive gone to the range multiple times and shot all four without even adding a drop of oil from previous outings...i just dont think a properly running ar308 needs to be baby coddled and oil drenched to make it run like a clock or run period...im not singling you out :)) but ....I always wonder why all the folks have to carry a jug of lube to keep their rifle running? Would anyone go into battle or defend themselves with a weapon that needs to have a jug of lube nearby to insure it works? Maybe im just lucky? If any 308 or any pistol or ar15 needed to be treated like this it wouldnt be taking up space in my gunsafe! :)) Wash

exactly!......P-man P-man get a chamber brush and solvent and scrub all that baked on lube/grease out of your chamber! :) Wash cause this goes back to where you said you have been greasing up the bolt...and all that lube is burning in the chamber causing build up....and you say that she goes thru several mags till it starts happening....then you pour in more lube and its running...clean the frickin chamber and keep the grease off the bolt....the brass is sticking to the hot dirty chamber causing a timing cycling prolemo.....maybe so

Me and Char went to the local gunshow today...so what else is new?...lol we were walking the aislesand i see this table with a glass top look in and I thought i saw about 10 308 lowers...no crap...Yep there they were.so i introduce myself to the nice gentleman and ask if i can fondle one...sure he sez. Well they were dpms style billet....but they had a name ive never seen....well he makes em ..cnc from start to finish and he's about 50 miles from me.He is just starting his uppers too. the lower will take a dpms mag or a ar10 new and old mag and even a m1a1 mag with a mod to the a1 mag. he also cnc's all the lower parts out of stainless himself.....300 bucks for the lower and the lower parts kit included too ...He will also engrave any kind of logo you want....I think I had a woody in the gunshow aisle! dont be telling Char that! Wash 500 back at the shop! finish was nice on the lower.... ill be going for a visit to his shop im thinkin :))

P-Man If the rifle wasnt factory built you could have a wrong buffer spring and or a wrong buffer.....you gotta start off with the single round lock back first.....then you have gotta make sure you have the proper spring /buffer combo for your weapon....an ar15 spring /buffer in a 308 will cause this :))

Powerman one thing more...dpms had a bad run of mags a while back Wash

Seasprite Outstanding piece you have! :) Wash

Powerman so without pics i believe its a stovepipe condition...one round coming in and the other round still inside or trying to eject...right? when it happens like that its a fubar condition right?....sooo what kind of ammo first off? does it lock back on the bolt catch with only one round in the mag and fired? Wash so lets go back to basics....store bought weapon what brand? did someone build it? car type stock or rifle stock? what ammo? barrel length? have you taken anything apart? gas block exposed or not? what brand of mags? break the rifle open...muzzle to ground...drop the bcg into rifle observing what happens as the carrier comes home to chamber....gas key or gas tube could be off a lil

Ducky I like the apex freefloat from rainer...looks great its lightweight and locks up great to the upper....im partial to the rifle length which is bout 12 inches or so I forgot...lol.... whatevers the one that.covers up the gas block....used to be a trx guy but this one is super :)) Wash

Shepp you dont need a tripod to take a picture of my moon.....its cloudy and raining,,,,so get close and balance the camera on my back :) Wash

hahaha the carrier did the most damage....it hit the sheetrock between the wall studs ..lol the out of spec buffer tube really got out of spec after the 5lb mallet pounded the snot out of it! :) Wash

Hi Ducky best tutorial is right here on this great forum. but you know that...so get a great barrel...then when putting together use i use moly, but the white lith is fine....use a torque wrench with your barrel nut wrench when putting the barrel on. some say to square up the lower but i dont buy into that....i would prolly screw it up lol Wash

Powerman I guess ive been lucky on ftf's....been putting them together since 1992....never had a problem on ar15's or 308's until 6 months ago. built up another 6.8 and it had ftf's...there was no solving this problem...took the damn thing fully apart twice....still did it....it locked back on function check, properly gassed...you name it....it was right on the money...but still ftf after the first one or two shots....so after picking up the parts after they had hit the garage wall I checked the inside dimension of the no name adj buffer tube cause i knew it was a cycling prob of course...the damn buffer tube was not machined right and it was way too short on the inside.put a new buffer tube on it and the rifle ran like a clock! the garage wall was beat up and missing paint, but hey we moved lol Wash

Hi mil-7 is fine, but you said you got a thousand rounds down the pipe? If thats the case dripping wet isnt needed on a rifle thats working right. every ar dpms style ive built...bout 7....they run like snot without the snot after a few rounds...dripping wet is fine for a new weapon, but 1k shot...she shouldnt need to be dripping wet...you got issues....use a normal amount of lube on a clean rifle....then do the ol will she lock back after the last round function check.....shoot the gun with one round when its newly oiled...locks back? then shoot the weapon until she gives you problems...when that happens shoot the one round and see what happens(locks back) after shes been running then get back with us .....YIKES i just went back and read you are greasing up the bolt lugs....dont do that ...no grease on the lugs..it will burn up cake up and cause problemos your burnt grease needs to be cleaned out of the chamber real good :)) Wash

Hi Guys So ive been wanting to do a brisket point instead of a whole brisket, but my butcher wont sell just the points...daaamn So me and Char were doing the wally world walk and lo and behold in the meat dept they had a couple of brisket points! bought a nice 5 pounder and saturday nite we rubbed it and put er in the fridge....since its no 15 lb brisket i figured it would be done in 7 hours...so no need to start in the middle of the nite. started out at 165 degrees with nice smoke.....after a few hours cranked up the heat a lil then when the internal got to 165 we foiled it and put in 1/2 cup of beef bouillon...and cranked up heat to 250 oh i forgot...we injected the beef bouillon too as we put it in the smoker.......when the 7 hour mark hit the internal was at 199...perfect! pulled it off and let it rest for an hour.....mighty tasty :) Wash
