  4. Here's a better view of the Nimitz class vs. the Ford class on square footage: It may not look like much but with props spinning and engines turning, that flight deck gets real small real fast.
  5. Hard to appreciate without a side-by-side. The Ford class has a considerable amount more square footage on the flight deck than the Nimitz class, which were bigger than the 1st gen "super carriers," which were quite a bit larger than the Midway class.   9. According to John Adams, the 1st Amendment isn't even in play. "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Kind of like the idea that anyone that crosses one of our borders is automatically entitled to constitutional representation.
  10. /\/\/\/\ I agree with all of that. "They" still set a precedent. The left set one for demanding terminations for people's speech away from work. The right set one for following through on those demands. The other side of the coin is that working at a given job is not an entitlement.
  11. Not that it is right but "they" set the precedent for this. Multiple precedents. If nothing else, perhaps it will get people to temper their opinions with tact. That's also in the face of the 1st Amendment. As adults we have the right to conduct actions and also to suffer consequences for actions. If one of your employees called your wife a stupid notevengoingtotypeit, do you have the right to fire them for expressing their opinion? Should they get rich because they have a low opinion of your wife? Or daughter? Or Veterans? Or America?
  12. Oh they're some class A-1 assholeians. I got a "remove immediately" notice for my 3 pallets of deep .50 ammo boxes in the carport (almost 900 of them), which was my introduction to having moved into wifey's 'hood. They then placed a "This vehicle will be towed at your expense," sticker on my registered and daily driven '76 K10, that was parked off the street and sidewalk, 100% in our yard (threatened to sue them over that one, issue done). But the first real kick in the teeth? Finding out that, despite being current on dues and playing the game by their rules, others in the 'hood had accumulated over $80,000 in back dues. WTFyoustupidmismanagingmuthafuckers?!?!?! You are honestly going to bitch about ONEFUCKINWEED in the yard, when people owe thousands of dollars?! Get those good for nothings out pulling everyone else's weeds, painting houses, cleaning windows!! Then, because it is a "private community (open to the public)," we get to pay for stuff like roads. So our extra $1500 "special assessment" gets paid for new roads in August, wait...September, better make that October. Go to the board meeting, "Where are the streets we paid to get?" "Oh, well some people are on a payment plan because they can't afford the $1500." Come April of last year (2016), they finally pave the roads. After BORROWING the money to get the total amount of funds. Now they are totally replastering the neighborhood pool. Over a month for that so far. Oh, and the new roads are being sawn up so some cable provider can replace fittings.

  15. I've seen something about giving the fish a strong current to help with that, like a lap pool setup or something. Heck, here in Arizona we're happy to have fish in water! A person can get a bit tired of Sonoran sand trout.

  17. /\/\/\/\ No Doubt! I saw a report on Chinese tilapia. With the water they were being bred in, they may as well have been catfish in a septic tank.
  18. Maybe not "farms" but I'm seeing something akin to "Victory Gardens" everywhere. People growing what they are able to grow and either selling the rest or bartering for what they can't grow. Go check out the farmers' markets in your nearest metro area. Pretty impressive things happening.

  22. If you want that information, you are going to have to work hard to find it. It certainly isn't being publicized nor volunteered anywhere. I would think that if the non-garbage/waste eating sea animals are contaminated, the garbage feeders would be overloaded.
  23. Evaporation really isn't that bad. There is some sort of formula for surface area over total volume. Of course, with it being circulated all the time, that does increase the rate of evaporation. A few ponds of rainbow trout would be sweet! We could hold one of our gatherings there. Just sayin'.
  24. Yes, tilapia are very common here but so are sunfish/blue gills and some type of trout. Water isn't much of an issue for a closed system. My buddy had a large koi pond on his front porch (there are thousands just in Tucson) that was very self suficient. They make a nifty neutralizer that zeros out the chemicals in tap water. The same buddy's Dad, once he was widowed, turned their lap pool into a small pond for trout and blue gill. Pretty cool, until he lost interest.
  25. Check out http://www.backyardaquaponics.com Not sure if they were the source of this little gem or not, but here it goes. Some group researching aquaponics dedicated about 1,600sf in a person's backyard, and found a good balance between the fish and veggies. After using what they and their family could eat, they sold the rest and pulled in something like $5k from the veggies and $15k from the fish, over a year at local farmers' markets. Myself and another friend are prepping this out if you need help with a sales pitch.
