  1. Nicely played, sir.
  2. In addition to the receiver extension and castle nut, you'll also need the receiver plate that goes underneath the nut.
  3. Welcome to the site.
  4. I, too, am glad no one was seriously injured. DEFINITELY call Winchester about this. Chances are they'll try to deflect responsibility to the gun makers for faulty equipment or to you/your family for not exercising due dilligence since there was a recall on the ammo. Hope you get it sorted out quickly.
  5. For what you say you want to do with the rifle, the TR-21 sounds like a good fit. When you're dialed down at 1.25x shooting short range stuff, use the triangle like a red dot - put the triangle center mass of the target and press the trigger. For longer range shots at higher magnification, use the tip of the triangle for more precision. It's kinda like a German #4 reticle in that respect.
  6. Welcome to the site.
  7. Nice rifle. Throw some pics up of how it shoots when you get it to the range.
  8. Sorry about that. TIC - Troops in Contact. RDS - Red Dot Sight. OBJ - Objective. ORP - Objective Rally Point, a covered and concealed position short of the actual objective where the patrol can stop, conduct a recon of the OBJ and prepare any mission equipment prior to moving out to the OBJ.
  9. I think the intent is to allow the .mil user to tailor the rifle to his mission. If he was going to be a DMR, then on goes the 20 inch upper with pre-zeroed optic. If he was going to be an assaulter, 10-12 upper with RDS."Cover me while I change uppers." wouldn't go over very well in the middle of a TIC. For a sniper team, it makes a little more sense, because it allows the sniper to have one upper for movement to the OBJ. Then when he's in the ORP, change over to the precision upper and move into the OBJ.
  10. Don't think the CM901 was submitted for the IC competition. Colt submitted a piston M4, IIRC. Saw some pics of Remington's version of the ACR from shot. Looked much better than Bushmaster's attempt. Remmy cut about a pound and a half off the weight by going to a different profile barrel and changing the barrel change system. They also went with a 1/7 twist rather than the original 1/9. While Remington says it's not for civilian sales, you can't find a Bushmaster ACR ANYWHERE right now. My thinking is Bushmaster is getting ready to come out with a Gen II ACR in the near future. The Mk 16 isn't a bad rifle. I've fired it a couple of times. Like the lightweight, trigger was kinda heavy. Pointed well, though and accuracy was better than what you'd expect from a fighting carbine.
  11. If you bitched about the cost of Armalite mags, you'll have an aneurysm when see the prices of Mk17 mags. Also, what's the point of having a quick change barrel system when there are no spare barrels available?
  12. Before you decide on VFG or bi-pod, consider what you're going to use the rifle for - if you're going to use it for target shooting, get the bi-pod. If it's going to be used for short range stuff, get a VFG. Also, if your intent is to stay with a 3-9x (or more) scope, I would also get a bi-pod. I cannot in good conscience recommend the grip-pod. Like most hybrids, it does neither job very well. My unit ordered a few when they were the new hotness several years ago. (Obviously, this was before I retired.) Didn't work out very well. We gave them to our DMR guys and they reported that as a bi-pod, the legs didn't extend far enough and it was a heavy bugger as a VFG.
  13. Good write up BLKSHEEP. Very informative. How's the enhanced Mil-Dot reticle working out for you?
  14. Welcome to the site!
  15. Welcome to the site.
  16. Welcome!
  17. You might also want to check the carrier key for obstructions and also check that it hasn't become loose. Check for obstructions in the receiver extension and check the buffer spring for excessive wear. Check the gas tube for a gas leak.
  18. The follower in the mag has been modified to allow the BCG to hold open after the last shot in the mag has been fired. Also an opening has been cut into the right side of the mag to allow the magazine catch to engage the magazine.
  19. Good deal, Bo! I'm glad you and your wife are safe. Great reaction to a potential home invasion.
  20. Welcome to the site.
  21. Would you like them pre-stained? Or do you plan to do that yourself?
  22. Planet of the Apes? With Charlton Heston? Did you see it at the drive-in? You're older than I thought. ;D My other half wants to see it in IMAX, if at all possible.
  23. Yup. Been watching clips of it on the Ft Benning website.
