I don't have time to look them all up but 308AR's/AR-10's are used by friendly government military's around the world. Here's a couple examples... LWRC has a contract with Saudi Arabia for either 308's or 6.8's (can't recall) and others.... As long as you buy or build quality 308AR's it will treat you well. The people telling you that BS have probably never shot much less owned a 308AR.

I have always been under the impression that it takes longer for a thicker barrel to heat up and also longer for it to cool down? I've been wrong once before so someone please enlighten me :))

Welcome D.R.D. That's some good advice from Shibiwan^^. I'll add that the scope you're looking at has 36 mrads /2 =18 of adjustment, that should get you into the 1000 yard +- range without a 20+ MOA scope mount.
