  1. You can see in the first photo that the lug is angled on front and back. That is the lug it's resting on. I'll get a top pic up tomorrow.
  2. You had it right... I IS ABOUT TIME! It was a good day.
  3. So I don't mean to post multiple things, but did not want this buried in other stuff. Perhaps some folks might be interested. I had a host of failure to eject problems. I run DPMS stuff but have a JP enhanced bolt. I put in a BCM spring kit many run, but I still had failures. BCM uses a "stronger" spring, and the o-ring/post set up. I called up JP Rifles about my problems, and they said they are just releasing a new extractor. They sourced all the extractors from DPMS stock... but they said it was a notorious problem. Not enough grip for 308s. They announced some stuff at SHOT, and they said they would send one out for me. They did... free of charge. Yes, I have zero problems giving companies like that good press for hooking customers up. So here is is. That is the new JP extractor compared to the one that came original, with the BCM spring kit. As you can see... the JP spring is BEEFY. The grove in the extractor for the case is much tighter and deeper. If gives a much more secure grip on the case. I did not have a single ejection problem and I was running a kind of dirty gun. FINALLY!!! The enhanced extractor is not sourced. JP says they make them themselves, and they only cost as much as regular extractors... $40. When they told me about them, they said they were already running them on all their bolts going out. So if you buy a JP bolt, you are getting the enhanced extractor. Very simple/inexpensive part upgrade. The best kind. You might not have any ejection problems, but I can tell you you won't have any with this...at least I no longer do. Right now, they still have DPMS manufactured extractors on their site...but give them a call if you want one.
  4. So soooo lame. I have been super busy and have not even had time to go to the range till today. Heck... even today I had work to do at the wife's store, but I told her f' that... I'm going to the range. She didn't argue at all... all I have been doing is working for her... but it needed to be done. Anyway.... SUCCESS!!!! 210 rounds and not one single hic-up. I didn't even really clean my stuff from last trip. But since the bolt was apart I had to clean the action up. Put it together, through in the Mobil 1, and ran it all day. 40 rounds of CBC I had left, and the rest was AE 308. My brass looks good, nothing tore up from the extractor... but not one failure to eject. Oh ya, and I changed gas rings too. So this was new rings and the new JP Rifles 308 extractor. The only odd thing was I was getting some odd flyers every now and then. Most my brass was landing in the usual place, if not further... but every so often, I would get one at 3:00... or even 2:30. And that was with the AE 308. The usual brass marks were on my deflector... but there were a few more on the outside slope of the standard DPMS deflector. I have not really seen marks there before... but every single one was spit out. Bolt locked back every time. Squirted a couple drops in the bolt at around 100 and kept going. I still want to clean up my chamber but have not had any time at all. I think I will order another gas tube just because I'm tired of cleaning the top of my barrel. I have considered a stronger recoil spring, but most don't have a problem with the Armalite ones... but that is a cheap part so I will order one soon. At least now I have confidence in my gear. Sort of odd it took all that, but hey, first time I have not had any problems.
  5. I considered replacing my extractor, but nothing about it seemed "worn" or wrong. I saw the standard extractor everywhere... I went to JP and they just listed a DPMS extractor. I asked when talking to them and they said they used standard DPMS or comparable extractors. That's when they told me of the new one. He didn't say they had "problems" with them... but that obviously they wanted better extraction and to slove the problem of cases slipping off the extractor. So who knows about what parts were actually sourced from where and when... but they have this redesigned one out now. The fact that I have failure to eject problems, my ejector is good, AND I have the BCM spring kit other use makes me a good candidate to see how effective this is.
  6. What helped me the most was a class. Not till I had some instruction on what I was doing did my groups really tighten. Having said that, it's all in the mechanics. Some things that helped... Get your breathing under control. Shoot at the same spot, hold in out, the middle... does not really matter, just shoot at the same point in your breath every time. The correction chart is good... but it does not take into account if you are doing multiple things... only if everything is good and you are doing the one wrong thing. Follow through for me is holding the trigger to the rear until I regain sight picture, then release and press for next shot. No it isn't speed shooting, it is practicing trigger control. That seemed to really help me. And yes, it helps shooting fast. Snap caps are great for shooting. I mix them into my mags and see exactly what I'm doing when it does not go off. And I don't keep track of them... I load a few mags with caps in various places order wise and forget where they are all at. When it does not fire it's a surprise. I never understood shooting with both eyes open till I read an article by Todd L. Green... made perfect sense then. Maybe you do it, but perhaps you still might not know. http://pistol-training.com/articles/vision
  7. No doubt Toolndie. And here is some free press for them. So here is some pics. Hopefully you can tell by the first two that the slot for the case rim is much deeper and narrower than the standard. It's much more secure on the case. Hard to get a good pic, but the ramped face is less pronounced. Same angle it seems just less. Surely by now you have noticed how beefy the spring is.... And here it all is.... The JP on the left, and that is the BCM kit on the right. If this does not fix my ejection problems... it definitely isn't the extractor. :))
  8. Ya, I'm on nights so not thinking very clear. :)) I sort of answered my own question. I think I will throw one in just for giggles. I just want to comment on the article again. It speaks to the importance of proper buffer and extractor springs. The article mentions Sprinco's extra power springs for the extractor. I have been having ejection issues and put in a BCM kit for stronger springs. JP Rifles has just put out an "Enhanced" extractor kit. They claim a stronger extractor spring made specifically for 308s. They use the rubber post and o-ring found in many other kits to enhance tension. They also made their own extractor. The claw has been redesigned. Just playing with a casing, it grips the shell much better due to a more narrow slot for the rim.... compared to my standard extractor. I called them up about my problems and they said that their new extractor was just hitting their shelves. All new JP bolts are shipping with the "enhanced extractor". They sent me one no cost. I can't wait to give it a shot. I know much more about extractor problems now. I certainly seem to be one of those reliability problems talked about in the article. I have been really busy, but I will get a pic up of the extractor soon.
  9. Everyone already told me that which how I ended up with the one I have. <dontknow> https://www.primaryarms.com/308-CAR-receiver-extension-8-collapsible-p/pa308car-tube.htm
  10. So now I'm confused. Srinco and Tubbs talk about 308 springs for standard M4 carbine tubes. But those are 7", and 308 tubes are 8". they talk about not being stronger, but if you put them in a longer tube... uh... well they just won't be so compressed. Obviously it's better than putting a spring mand for 7" in a 6" tube. So is that just the way it is... all these better buffer springs for 308s by Tubbs/Wolff/Sprinco/JP.... that are made for 308s work fine right??? Anyone of them better than the other, or are they all the same?
  11. Yes, 8" AR10 carbine buffer tube. https://www.primaryarms.com/308-CAR-receiver-extension-8-collapsible-p/pa308car-tube.htm
  12. Tactical Springs LLC .308 M4 CARBINE Extension Tube EXTRA POWER Moly-Plated Chrome Silicon Buffer Spring in Hard Tube (Color Coded ORANGE) [NOTE: Developed EXCLUSIVELY for .308 CARBINE Platforms Utilizing Standard 7" Depth M4 Carbine Extension Tubes with Short Buffers. E.G. DPMS/Bushmaster, Etc.] http://www.sprinco.com/tactical.html Ya, it's on their spring page. I'm just confused by tube length... mine is 7 5/8" inside depth on my carbine tube. They say 7" which I thought was AR-15 carbine.
  13. I looked at their site... a little "stronger" than normal. A bit, but good spring I know lots use. Do you have to cut it for a carbine buffer tube. I was looking for info, but all they said was it fits both. Looking to get an order together for a hone and gas tube.
  14. So how many folks here run stronger buffer springs? Reading the article and going to Sprinco, they have a stronger spring for 308s. Curious what you guys think about that. I understand if it might not be "needed", but would it be better?
  15. Very interesting considering my problems. Thanks.
  16. Thanks Bud. I have been looking at that kind of stuff. My box of AE 7.62 got here. I'm going to get my rifle put back together and cleaned up right. I will find some gauges or have it head spaced. If it isn't right, I'll send it back to Fulton. If it is, I'm going to make sure the chamber is clean with a flex hone. At least I will know it's smooth, and clean up any scratches I may have caused. After that... I'm feeling good it will be right, and the new extractor will do it's job.
  17. Woot Woot!!!
  18. JP is sending me a new "enhanced" extractor kit Monday. I'm interested to check it out. It has a stronger spring and o-ring/post set up with a redesigned extractor. Oh ya... free. Great people. Looking forward to testing it.
  19. Only seeking knowledge, not dismissing. Just trying to learn... and thanks for all your help. I really regret getting my panties in a bunch with you... but it was somthing with the fabric softener because all my panties were pretty bunched for a bit. It's all good now. :))
  20. Thanks... So help me out, why do I need my chamber reamed and not just cleaned/polished/honed? I'm not get why I need to remove so much material. Why not the flex hone? I have not asked specifically, but I have a couple friends that probably have 308 gauges. Thanks a lot.
  21. Yep, gb is good to go easy flow. It isn't like the tube is rattling around, but it went in surprisingly easy. Gas tubes are cheap. Even just stopping the fouling is enough reason.
  22. :)) That's awesome. I was not thrilled about the reamer. I have taken pipe cleaner to tube and it's clean. I think I am just going to get a flex hone and clean it up. I am going to head space so I do not have to explain for the rest of my life that I didn't :)) Did he happen to say what the proper engagement is between tube and key? DPMS buffers are lighter. But plenty also run Heavy Buffers. Not sure what it does for Fulton... other than sped things up from what I have now.
  23. So then other than a finish reamer... what is the best way to clean up my chamber... Flex hone? Spent case/lap? What?
  24. Yes I do, but I'm no machinist. I can take care of the extractor. Curious what JP is coming up with.
  25. Well poop. I bought a bunch of pmags because everyone said they were the most reliable.
