  1. Here's a great slow mo video on failure to extract. I'm not still harping that this is your problems... just thought you might find it interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYm5UjojDMU Are you handy, have you taken your bolt apart? Check that both springs are good?
  2. No, I was mainly talking about bush.
  3. What happened to the 70s?
  4. Good God... this thread is 2 days old, and not one single "bush" joke. No, not Bush... bush. And for this crew.... I'm shocked. :))
  5. I was being sarcastic.... but just watching TV... seems like it's true.... not that there's anything wrong with that.... or carrying a AR-15 into Starbucks.... It's just that nobody should be surprised on either side when people stare. And just like some on both sides... some just do it to be shocking.... ;)
  6. Yes, but every since the S.A.G... or is that F.A.G.... :) made it a union law to have two gays in every show.... people have gotten much more used to it.... now if only they could do that with guns..... oh, wait a minute they do... with endless shootouts and police tough guys.... then denounce gun violence... never mind....
  7. The fact is there has never been one single instance in my life where a gun would have improved any out come I was a part of. I have never "needed" a gun, ever. All I can do is look at history. A fire arm is not the ultimate trump card. It isn't a death ray. I am not guarantee a positive out come simply by possessing it. It does not make me immune from harm. It is simply an option. I like options. A knife is an option. Walking away is an option.... Now I'm sure a few can't say that. And no I do not know the future.... but it is also quite possible that I may indeed "need" a gun... but that having one will not improve that out come either. But now we are talking about hypothetical "possibilities". I carry. I think everyone should. I have no problem with open carry. I buy "having one and not needing" over needing and not having.... but let's not kid our selves.... being involved in a shootout is incredibly rare.... even Zimmerman could have just gone home... not saying he was wrong... just sayin'. Most people that do not look for a shoot out will ever find themselves in one.
  8. I was using grease... but then it's wet and it does not really stay anyway. Best thing I did was use the recommended oil from this site.... Mobil 1. Rifle runs like a top, and cleans easily. A co-worker of mine was talking to me about ARs.... he was Army... and on the discussion of "how much lube".... his basic recommendation was that if you can taste the CLP shooting.... you're good to go. Not that you don't know.... just thought that was funny. :)
  9. Ya... and it's a choice to have the burden. Why complain about it? And you said earlier if a guy walks into a movie theater with a rifle you might have to "pop" him. WTF??? Is he breaking the law? Have you met the legal standards for deadly force? Do you know what those requirements are for you in your state? I'll go out on a limb here here and say there is no state in America where simply possessing a fire arm meets those requirements. And no... you don't get to "decide" to shoot a guy cause he has a rifle... I don't care where you live. As far as the OP... Colorado is open carry, and I could care less. It creates more problems than it solves. To be confrontational for confrontations sake is retarded. And the same does not apply from the country and the city. In the country, where you actually do hunt, and there is not anyone really around... rifles are no big deal. And it is mostly for hunting, not self protection... but obviously could be. It just isn't normal to see someone with a long gun in the city. And if has nothing to do with fear.... it plain isn't a "normal" thing to see. Nor do you have "normal" reasons for a long gun... but in Colorado... you can open carry all you want.... and guess what... nobody does. Very rare to see. Now out on the farm, sure. Every one has one in their pick up. I open carried for a little while... and it wasn't to make a statement, and I didn't want the attention. Like I said... it caused more problems than it solved. Fact is, while I do choose to carry, I would bet money that I will never be involved in a shooting. I don't live in Iraq or Columbia, and I do not need a AR at the drop of a hat at any given moment through out the day. That isn't pussification... that is just called living in a civilized country... during peace time. When the war breaks out, I might change my carry habits.
  10. Ya, I can't quite see it... but the lug on the extractor is angled which is how they do it. The regular lug on DPMS or similar is flush/perpendicular to the face. So that is a new one. Any system that relies on spring pressure might not work right. Increasing spring pressure might make the system cycle, but it does not mean it fixed the root problem. Seems like JP thought the spring pressure of normal extractors was not adequate for 308, so their spring is much beefier. I understand it's possible I still have a problem, but their new extractor fixed my failure to eject problem. You indeed have a different problem. The extractor you have is plenty strong enough to get the case out. The only thing else you could do is just take the extractor off and look at the spring. I know you do not have one to compare to (maybe) but it is really beefy. You should be able to tell. Check that the ejector is actually moving freely. The spring is very strong. Hook a case in the extractor claw and lever the ejector in and out. If it is strong and moves freely... that is all good to go. Most folks think an extractor problem won't remove the case, and an ejector problem won't eject it.... but a weak extractor spring will allow the case to slip off... so a weak extractor spring can actually cause an ejection problem. They work against each other. Anyway... just trying to help. My only advice is to listen to the guys here.... and be systematic about you troubleshooting. I wasted a lot of time instead of going down the list and ruling each thing out. I also misidentified the problem in the beginning. Yes I had a cycling issue from running dry, and then it turned into a failure to eject problem. In my head it was all just a "failure to feed" issue. Hindsight.... I certainly know a heck of a lot more about my gun now than I did before. :)
  11. It will say JP right on the extractor. Their little laser mark like on the bolt. If it is just black, then it is DPMS or similar sourced.
  12. They just started running the new extractor this year... Spring. New bolts come with the enhanced extractor. Yours is probably old style. Skip to the end of my thread if you want to see.... but there is good reading from all these guys on solutions.... have fun. :)
  13. I have a hard time believing a small leak is going to cause a cycling problem. since most generally agree a .308 is overgassed to begin with. I really do think I broke mine in too dry.... which caused cycling issues. I mean it would short stroke, not lock back, get progressively worse. But then I basically drenched it and that was good. But my block leaked... which sent me down a rabbit hole on that. Replaced my DPMS block on my Fulton barrel with aPRI. Still leaked. Recently I replaced my gas tube, and it leaks less. At no time did any of it change my failure to eject. My brass was landing exactly where a properly gassed rifle should, and still does. I run a AR-10 buffer and spring. So a heavy (proper) buffer and spring. Here you go....
  14. When did you buy your JP bolt? This is like Deja Vu.... I didn't run my rifle wet enough on break in... fixed that. My gas block leaked... replaced that. Still leaks. Replaced the tube, leaks less. I was getting failure to eject the whole time. Got the BCM extractor spring, no luck. Talked to JP...they put out a redesigned extractor because of all the problems they were having with their DPMS sourced extractors. Much stronger spring. $40. Problem solved. My chamber wasn't tight, but I did take a hone to it. This drove me bat chit crazy for about a year. It wasn't a failure to extract...the spent casing was not ejecting. It slips off the claw.
  15. Well there is that... and the fact a wounded soldier takes way more of an enemies resources. Getting him off the battlefield, gas, doctors, medical supplies... ect.
  16. I know that. that's my point. As long as we are stuck with ball ammo... there is no point leaving the 9..... unless you want to get serious and look at the 4.6 or 5.7.
  17. There is no point to change to anything using ball ammo. It all sucks. If they were actually serious, they would be looking at the 4.6 or 5.7. but the 4.6 outperforms it. That is a harder hitting hand gun round and hi-cap.
  18. Something not a 2x4? I really like FN, and checked those out, but just didn't get it. A XD45 feels like you only have 10 rounds when you have 13. The FN feels exactly like you have 15. It's a brick. And 15 rounds of 45 is great... until you have to carry it. Nothing is free. I like the fact HK went the other direction. And I have large hands. Great grip that feels like a 1911 but has 10 rounds. If you need 15 rounds, then you need a 9. I don't know where the story came from that is floating around. I don't see it happening. No pistol is good with ball ammo. It's a secondary weapon. Why waste the money for a new platform when all you are going to shoot is ball?
  19. Well they made the HK45 for that reason and then the plug was pulled. One of the best 45s on the planet.... don't care what I sound like. But the M9 is not going anywhere. the plug was pulled and the government doubled down a bigger contract. Next.
  20. Right, so don't allow your wrist to move. Got it. :))
  21. ^-^ So how well does she shoot the HK?
  22. Well and that's the only conclusion I could draw from it... hold the firearm firmly. Don't move your wrist.
  23. So can you guys help me out. I watched the OP video. He talks about "locking your wrist". I hear that over and over... but honestly, i have no idea what the heck that means. I understand hand placement and the other techniques he mentioned.... but your wrist does not "lock". You can lock your arms out. you can lock your legs out. I understand rotating your wrists... but I just don't get what people mean by locking your wrists. Even in the video, where he shows the difference with high speed camera... I still don't see it.
  24. I do agree. At the range... you need that reference point. You need a "point" to reference. I know exactly what you mean. Bullseye shooters do not use dead on hold. there is a reason. But defensively, shooting center mass..... ya, I have no problem with that. I'll hit what is in front of me. And I am starting to get used to that big orange dot of the HD. Starting to really like it. Obviously that does not work in the dark.... but bringing up that big orange dot with dead on hold... it's working. I just sort of found that looking "through" the front sight, and looking at my target "picture"... instead of target "point"... I do just fine. And defensively, that is what I should be doing anyway. So I sort of think it is good for that.
  25. Yes, HKs have dead on hold. It can be a little irritating if you are bullseye shooting.... but for what it is. It's fine. I know in a defensive situation... I'm going to hit what I aim at. I usually just have to get over it and it's all good. I have The Trijicon HDs on one of mine. When I just focus on the front, and "look through it", things work fine. Another has the factory Mepros. Still dead on hold... but that one does not seem to bother me as much. Not sure why. If I really do want to shoot bullseye, then I just shoot 6 o'clock hold. Yes it's low, but I have a reference point to shoot, and I shoot tight groups. I have a 3rd on the way that will get HDs too. Can't wait.
