First let me ask why there isn't a running range report pic thread. I saw the one that had been locked. Please educate me.
So today I decided to hit the range with the 700 I dropped a few days ago. I had done some work and had not sighted the rifle in yet. What I shot:
1. (confirming on paper) PPU Match Line168gr BTHP (crap European stuff)
2. Federal Premium Gold Medal 168gr BTHP
3. IMR 4895 168gr BTHP (my loads)
4. IMR 3031 168gr BTHP (my loads)
I did not get to chrono any of these rounds. The range I went to in not my first choice or even my second but it is very close to home. It is run by a bunch of kids and the benches are very poor. Total time there was 1.5 hours, mainly waiting on the ding dongs to call a cease fire so they could go down and get my target. They don't let you go down.
So I shoot this target at 100 yards off of bags. Not too bad other than the cheap European crap.
Yeah there is no apparent damage, but it has just been one of those days. I don't believe there is any damage and I would hope its a better product than that, but there is no way to tell.
Recently I had ankle surgery and while moving some guns around I tripped and dropped a gun from about 3 feet up. No sure exactly how it landed but now I'm worried about the optics. Luckily its a Vortex Viper PST so if it is damaged they will take care of it.
Should I be worried?
While I know, and I'm not argueing, that an 18 and 16" barrel will bang steel at 1k yards the can defeats the purpose right? A can will add approx 50fps, more than 1' pf barrel (approx 35fps per inch). Correct? Please let me know otherwise.
I've only heard good things about them. I have several of there products and my only complaint is with the pistol grip. It has sharp edges that need to be beveled for comfort.
