  1. I bought the DoubleStar barrel through Brownell's last year when there was a mid-year sale. I got it cheaper via Brownell's that I did J&T Distributing. It's chrome-lined with the A1 front sight gas block installed and it 1-9" twist. Have not installed it yet as I am waiting on my stamp to come in from ATF for the SBR build I bought the barrel for. Should only have 1-2 months left to wait. I did breathe a sigh of relief when I looked my order history up and cross-checked the item numbers. I still have the box and all it came in but I really didn't want to hassle with shipping stuff back and forth.
  2. I was lucky enough this past fall to grab a new Armalite 20" barrel and upper receiver for my DEF-10 carbine. I finally got that assembled this past week. I figured I would have enough room to leave the 20" barrel upper assembled and mounted and also put the carbine lower in there too. Maybe a scope and red dot also if I can find the right ones that have reticles friendly to my aging eyesight and will stand up well to .308 abuse.
  3. I don't have one of those but too many other saws. We need an electric kitchen knife desperately. Sure will save the birds some suffering around Thanksgiving and Christmas. For crying out loud the poor birds are dead already and don't need to suffer our usual torture.
  4. I guess I'm going to have to get one of those electric carving knives everybody recommends too - won't tell the wife what I initially bought it for
  5. I wanted the very best I could get. No soft case for this weapon. :-D
  6. Pelican 1750 OD green case for my Armalite AR10. Should be here this coming week.
  7. I bought a DoubleStar 11.5" from them last year. Mine wasn't on the list neither. Glad it wasn't
  8. Just received via e-mail this morning so I thought I would post it here and pass it along: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/02/28/product-recall-brownells-ar-15-barrels-drilled-improperly/
  9. Welcome from Gulf Coast Texas. Enjoy the site. Kiss your "other" bank account goodbye.
  10. Thanks for the recommendation. I bought these because I need 2 cheap slings but I've planned on a Beachin sling for my AR15A4 and the AR10 I finally just finished yesterday.
  11. Just ordered 2 AU 2-point slings from Arms Unlimited. These slings are on sale there now for $24.95 each.
  12. I got the same goodies. Dillo Dust is TOPS. They also included 3 pocket size copies of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Indeed they are a class act. Haven't installed mine yet but it's most likely going in this next week. Rain until Wednesday. Most likely try it out then or Thursday.
  13. Got a trial size box of coffee coming in tomorrow from the Black Rifle Coffee Company.
  14. Just ordered some of the Federal white box 130 grain 7.62x51 OTM ammo from Ammo To Go with them throwing in a .50 cal. ammo can for .49 cents.
  15. Bob ... just wondering if you are still using the small hobby mill from Northern Tool, and how is it working out with the 1/4" chuck?  THANKS !!!

Just for clarification, this is the mill you're using, correct?

No, that one is much smaller and less powerful than my mill.  My mill is http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200660255_200660255.  I wouldn't want to go any smaller or less powerful if you are going to use 7075 lowers.  The smaller one would probably be OK for polymer lowers.  You can see a comparison of similar mills on the Little Machine Shop site.  The real issue with these is the shipping cost.  Northern Tool offered free pickup at the local store.  Regular shipping is a couple hundred dollars since the weight of these mills is about 150#.

Glad I cleared that up.  Thanks for the assistance and the proper link.  I'll start saving my pennies.

  16. Stick with that tour plan as it is your best option. Be advised there is a Hard Rock Cafe now in both Saigon and Hanoi. Haven't been to the one in Hanoi but the HRC in Saigon has the best bacon cheeseburger in all of SE Asia, IMHO.
  17. Cambodia is slowly coming out of their near extinction. They were very nice people. I highly recommend Angor Wat but be advised that it is actually a huge network of temples and you can literally take 4 days to see it all. Very tropical, hot and humid. They virtually have no winter there. DO NOT STAY IN A CHEAP HOTEL THERE OR EAT ANYTHING SOLD ON THE STREET. Vietnam is a nice trip but Saigon is not just another big dirty city. If you go there, get with me first. Lots to explain to you before you go. They have Vietnam vet tours there and they will take you to all the famous battle sites. If you're in to that I highly recommend it and you can find all that online now before you go.
  18. We took a side-excursion for a few days to Angor Wat in Cambodia. Been wanting to go there for the longest time. Very nice trip. Got to meet some of the local monkeys (macaques) and interact with them. It was a blast. As usual, we'll be going back to Vietnam next February. We got there every year for the Lunar New Year, which also happens to be the best weather for traveling there.
  19. Confusing though ... in sentence they describe it as 460 rounds then another they describe it as 640 rounds. Finally ... I found somebody with my same math skills
  20. Well folks ... talk about CLASS ... Got my trigger in and along with it came the following: 4 - bumper stickers of the DEPLORABLES line 2 - MBT oval bumper stickers 3 - pocket sized booklets on the US Constitution & Bill of Rights 1 - Christmas tree ornament (it's an armadillo of course ... LOL) Last but not least and as important as the trigger itself; a complimentary bottle of LaRue BBQ rub. You cannot help but know that you've bought something from a Texas business when you get a free bottle of their own BBQ rub To say the least ... this Black Friday purchase was well worth the wait
  21. Finally ... my Black Friday La Rue trigger purchase is on it's way in the mail to me.
  22. That's good to hear. When we setback we should have the best range weather for the year and I plan on hitting the range as much as possible with the ArmaLite. I'm going to try the M80 ball first, then move up from there. The only Fiocchi I have has been for 7.62x39 and they seem to be fine but there is never much difference in weights of the various projectiles in the caliber. I used them mostly for the brass.
  23. Oh yes ... but he way ... FWIW; Happy Lunar New Year to everybody (from Saigon, Vietnam ... LOL).
  24. Reason I ask is because my ArmaLite has the 1-11.25" twist. ArmaLite claims it can handle the 175 grains but 168 is "optimum" (or some word like that) and the twist was done so folks could shoot more of the cheaper and lighter 149+ grain ammo. Nice to hear the 175 will work. I suspected 1-10" twist could handle just about anything but I'm sure the heavier weights shoot better in the fast twist barrel.
  25. What barrel twist are the rifles you're referring to that seems to prefer the heavier rounds?
