  1. OK, so I tried an H3 buffer that weighs in at 5.4 oz and I used its spring, and there was zero difference in ejection patterning between the original and the H3. The H3 buffer and spring came out of my sons' 6.5 Grendel build, for what it is worth. And I do not know the manufacturer. Spring looks pretty much same as mine, so..... The only difference that I could tell was a bit more of a "solid" bump on the end of the recoil impulse, nothing else changed that I noticed.

  3. Coolness!!! That should make it run 100% without getting into the realm of 100% paranoia about parts.😎👊
  4. As a side note, my son has an H3 buffer from his 6.5 Grendel that he is going to borrow me for testing also. I am thinking that a H2 with the proper spring will be the ticket.....but the H3 will allow me to see if the 100% functionality will stop with the H2 or I can go all the way with the H3. My memory tells me that buffer system that I am using came from a LGS in town that sells parts from LBE. https://www.lbeunlimited.com/product/milbufkt/ I may be wrong, but that is what I had on hand, and this was one of those builds for me.....parts on hand. 🥸
  5. Buffer tube depth: 6 15/16" or 6 31/32" according to my Stanley tape measure.....(however accurate that is) 😉 Buffer is 2.5inch long according to same tape, just like you said. I can take it apart if it really matters..... If a buffer can get me close without pulling the barrel, I will be happy.
  6. With the pics above showing what I meant by the 7 round tube sticking out farther than the barrel on an 18.5" setup, this would not be feasible on a Maverick 88. Yes, it could be done, with A LOT of work/machining/and such....but just not worth the time/cost for parts.....the shotguns aren't that expensive to start with. The Nordic parts are made for shotguns that use the "normal" barrel lug/ring setup to retain the barrel with the mag tube via a "cap" screwed ONTO the magazine tube. (like I said previously, all the normal makers: Winchester, Mossberg, Remington, whichever) The Maverick series tubes are sealed at the end with a blind screw hole for the retaining bolt held by the barrel lug via a screw turning INTO the blind hole of the magazine tube. I wanted to take my 88 apart to show pics of the assemblage, but I am not removing the light mount (it was a bitch).
  7. https://www.mossberg.com/firearms/shotguns/maverick-88.html I you go through the models of the Maverick 88's there are only the 5 round capacity and 7 round capacity versions available. The end result of doing the mag tube/barrel exchange is this: for the cost of the time and machining, you just go buy another Maverick 88 in the configuration you are trying to get to. The parts to make the 7 round capacity tube fit with a 18.5 barrel don't exist in the Maverick world. The Mavericks are $250ish shotguns off the rack, try finding the barrels/tubes/springs for that nowadays and making the checkbook work on the end result. I guess if you really wanted the extended tube sticking out from under the barrel, like some of the race shotgunners have, then putting the extended tube under the 18.5 will work....you just need to figure out how to retain the barrel in place.....and here goes any "savings" attempted with parts swapping. 98, with the 7 round mag inserted, tell me where the 1.5 inch of barrel is coming off the installed barrel that he put into his receiver? All he did was make up the same "model" as mine is.....nothing more. His furniture is different, that is all now. There is no where to take off barrel length with the 7 round tube.....and the work needed to accomplish this is beyond the worth of the shotgun. Give me a minute, and I will have pics with tape to show what I mean.
  8. By the time one gets done buying the new barrel, mag tube, and spring.....you would be just as well off (if not better) to just buy the larger capacity version. I looked at much of this years back, and chose accordingly when I purchased the Maverick I have. If you do this, then you will have 2 shotties to deal with things, and have them staged accordingly. Like I had posted this previously, sometimes the juice isn't worth the squeeze. It can be done, I didn't say it couldn't, just that the cost benefits outweigh the end result.
  9. What a dumbass......chambering is 5.56/223. My apoligies
  10. Just in case anyone needed to see what I was looking at.
  11. If I wanted to get the correct ejection from my 16" PSA upper (mid length gas system) and it is ejecting brass into that 1:30-3:00 area on the pie charts, will a heavier buffer change this correctly without harming flawless performance from the carbine as is? The parts: PSA 16" barrelled upper PSA mid length gas system carbine length buffer tube 3.7 oz buffer standard carbine spring that came in the carbine tube (don't remember manufacturer) which contained the buffer also
  12. The only thing that I want to add to mine right now is a tritium front sight from XS Sights.
  13. Look at part #12, and see the difference in how that is from any Rem/Win/Mossy shotgun assemblage. As a side note, the 20" home defense Maverick 88 is very nicely done for the money, and I really don't notice the 1.5 inch difference in handling within my house. I will take that extra length for the extra magazine capacity that it offers.
  14. On the Maverick magazine system, the magazine cap is actually a threaded "bolt" that is attached to the barrel lug. This then is threaded into the sealed end of the mag tube. The magazine tube is completely sealed, save for the threaded "bolt hole" in the end where the cap screws in. On any other modern manufacturer of shotties that I have seen, the magazine tube cap is just threaded onto the outside of the tube, with the lug basically being a really thick washer under the "nut" of the magazine cap. That is why it is to easy to swap out different barrels, put on extended mag tubes, and such. Here is the why of this changing of parts isn't really easy/inexpensive/non-machine shop work.....the work needed to be performed to just change out parts on a Maverick shotgun far excedes the cost of just buying another one; whereas this would easily work on a Mossberg, Remington, Winchester, and imports (if made like the previously mentioned brands) if one would just buy the parts and swap them out.
  15. By the nature of how the Maverick series are designed, they don't lend themselves to extended tube add-ons. The Mossbergs are another story, much like any other manufacturer.
  16. Maverick 88. They get the job done. No worries. If you want to spend more, buy Mossberg. A few more options, some can be added to Mavericks if wanted by owner....but they work just as well.
  17. 👍
  18. and I thought Keltec makes some "improvement needed" weapons........
  19. 👍
  20. What are your thoughts on an adjustable gas block for a 6.5 Grendel build. Is it worth while or would it be money wasted? Plans for a suppressor in the future might be on the table.
  21. Coolness, I will pass that along.
  22. Should he stay away from Bear Creek for an upper? LIke i said, there is nothing purchased at this time, just wanting "not junk"......
  23. Brothers, all I have for you are questions and nothing solid in return. These questions are for my son, and he is building a 6.5 Grendel with a Faxon barrel. His main question currently is 18 or 20".....which is best to get the performance? After that, what manufacturers do you recommend for an upper build for him. Nothing is purchased yet, and I don't have the knowledge to offer the best opinions on this caliber. Thanks.
