I am looking to swap out my adjustable buttstock on my APF 308 carbine for a fixed model of some kind, mostly to get rid of the wobble that it has. The current model is a Magpul MOE 6 position model, and I have tried to shim it with brass shimstock to get rid of the wobble....that works, but not enough for me, as it still has wobble in it. I am not after the highest/bestest priced models of buttstock, just the plain jane working models from whatever vendor....wondering if there is a large working difference between the old A1/A2 stocks and a fixed model from Magpul....unless there are other suggestions from members here. I know that I will end up getting a new tube, buffer, and spring, so that is already in my mind for the swap, just trying to find out what would be the best fix for my problem. Thanks

I know that I will confuse someone with this....... So by the supposed different measurements in the 7.62x51/308 {yer guns gonna blow up world} I should have destroyed quite a few rifles in the past years by taking military brass, resizing it to .308 dimensions, and firing it in 7.62 NATO (along with .308 chambers) chambers....and (this is the CRAZY part) nothing even remotely close has happened. The differences are in the design and metallurgy of the differing rifles, not the ammunition; unless the ammo is at the extreme ends of specifications. The differences in the specs on case measurements between NATO/SAAMI are not the problem, rifle design pressure tolerances are.

I know it didn't score veighly on the testing, but I went with something that I personally know will perform very well...the Smith Enterprise Good Iron brake. I had owned one on a Polytech M1A way back in the 90's and it did wonders for the recoil reduction on that, and now put one on my APF 16" .308 carbine. Unfortunately I have only 7 rounds through the gun since putting it on, but those 7 were just like shooting a Mforgery in .223 for recoil comparison. 7 rounds were due to ammo issues, not gun.

That would have been much more informative if both wounds would have been to exact, identical places. One hit bone, the other was a pass through, and based solely on these 2 cases....yes getting hit EXACTLY like this with these two calibers makes one choose the x39, not the .556, if being shot at. Good information, but not overly conclusive to me.....

I wouldn't call that much of an accomplishment either.... -

No worries. FWIW, I need to put in way more trigger time with this new 308 before I can shoot up to it's inherent accuracy potential. Mine is the standard "308 carbine" as listed in APF'S rifle section. Right now it is wearing a set of DD fixed irons for sights, a Rhodesian sling, and a Smith Enterprise Good Iron brake on order...that should be about the extent of mods to rifle. It shoots very well, and I couldn't be happier with it. -

If you can't make shards of the clay pigeon remnants disappear on the back berm, then there is something wrong with either rifle, ammo, or shooter. And that is from an unsupported standing position. This is being done with old Mosin Nagants shooting milsurp ammo, Ruger bolts with either iron sights or scout scope, ratty old Romanian AK, or (ta-da) a 16" APF carbine in 308. One doesn't need a long barrel to make a rifle accurate, just the assemblage of parts correctly to produce the most accuracy. I have found that I prefer a shorter barrel over the long tubes, for anything under what EasyEJL said, handling is much nicer than the longer tubes. I am not trying to hammer on you personally, but most any rifle out there should be able to hit that 10" plate without trying..... Hell, I do think I can do that with my old Colt 1991A1.....and I think I have found a challenge for me to try.... -
The NFL is so far left on the political spectrum that I am surprised they haven't instituted bans on even the surrounding 2,000 yard circumference of every stadium.....just to make EVERYONE safe. Ya know that only criminals and terrorists follow rules and laws...

I have actually bought back one I originally owned in the early 2000's.... The friend that sold it back to me actually owns I think, give or take four of them. He likes him so much he even put them on his 22 LR rifles. He has never had any problems or issues with them losing zero, or holding zero. And when I used to own the scope it gave me zero problems, and in the intervening years it gave him zero problems, and I fully expect zero problems in the future with it. Mine will be going on top of my APF carbine (mounted with some quick detach rings) just in case I want to make longer than 300 to 400 yard shots. The reticle fits how I like using a scope very well, as I prefer iron sights for anything under 300 yards.

Local Gun Shops That Stand Out - Good to Go

For more tactical stuff Mandan Sporting Goods. Prices can tend to be on high side, but there are good availabilities of examples for rifles, ammo, barrel mufflers, magazines....you get the point. And Double HD Guns in Bismarck, they work to to deliver the best deals they can. They are a a bit more conventional in firearms selection, but goods deals deals and deals and good people. -
What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?
bubbas4570 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
This is why I came over here. I traded off my Ruger Scout rifle and another M77 in .308 to get into my APF 16" carbine. Very happy so far, as the gun shoots better that I do, and does what I couldn't get my bolt guns to do for me. Besides it has shown the ability to digest any .308 ammo that i feed it....what's not to like? -
And here I thought North Dakota was one of the only places to let dumbasses drive.....I had chalked it up to the state wanting more vehicles on the road....and more chances of elimination of good drivers. Sort of like a Mad Max situation whenever leaving the house.

No shiot....been thinking that for years already......

Armed Eye Doc, We have none in the central part of the state where I live. They are calling for some to show up on Wednesday, just before Thanksgiving.

....from North Dakota. Traded into a APF 16" 308 carbine recently, and am really enjoying it. I am looking forward to relearning what I used to know back in the 90's about the platform, and have lost in the years since. This is my first AR in at least 15 years, and alot has changed since.

I followed a link from the scoutrifle.org website. I traded off my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle on my re-entry into the AR world. Really happy with my Alex Pro Firearms 16" carbine in 308. I was looking for information on exactly which parts will fit/work in mine, as it is a DPMS pattern, but I wasn't sure which generation it was.
