  1. Just curious all of you who have been around a bit. I see washguy under his name has the number 2500, and I have a 0. What does that mean? also, what does my dot mean?
  2. Jesus is this what happens when i'm not around for a few days? (says the new guy haha) This really escalated quickly kinda why I don't piss off the respected locals. Not that I would because I was raised to be respectful enough to answer a simple fuxing question.
  3. Welcome from WI! You will love the AR10 platform for deer hunting the .308 is a great deer round. Good luck

    Deer Season

Few things i hate more than an animal suffering. I have strived over the years to perfect my craft, and though no one is perfect i rarely fail to one shot one kill. You seem to have the wisdom and respectfulness of nature that you will be great. Mistakes can happen, what sets us aside is that we work to learn and fix it. I actually had some real problems when I started bowhunting. Lack of shot angle understanding, very old bow, too much adrenaline. I wounded a few and I finally figured it all out, but I almost quit bowhunting 4 years ago. I told the wife if i wound the next one i shoot at i quit. But something clicked and since then I am 5 out of 5 for ethical bow one shot kills with deer recovered.
  7. Hey im with you man! If my son isnt here by Wednesday, they are yanking him out haha my wife is scheduled to be induced Wed. if he aint come yet. Congratulations, and welcome to the party. dont worry, you will still have time to build and shoot, life gets pretty normal again after a few weeks.

    Deer Season

So while it is certainly noble to feed the hungry, I must ask do you not like venison, or are you just planning on getting multiple permits and donating some? Cuz thats good eatin. Also, with your RRA rifle them things are tack driving machines Lolz you wont need much trigger time. I laid my Booner out one shot the second time I ever fired mine. haha shot it for the first time ever to sight in the morning before I got my opening day buck with it. I bought it like 4 days before deer gun opener. The .308 is a strong round with great terminal performance on deer. I went one shot one kill I will swear by RRA. Just remember two things when hunting deer. 1. Dont aim for the heart, which is lower. Lots of people shoot under deer, so up and down wise aim for the center between the belly and back, a little behind the shoulder. Look at deer vitals images on google and train yourself not to shoot low at the heart. 2. The kill zone (dead in 150 yards or less) is about a 10 inch diameter circle on a buck, piece of cake with that operator!! Hope to see some pics of your successful hunt!

That is super awesome, congratulations Indiana! I have used rifles up north since I was a child, but just a year or two or three ago they made rifle an option statewide in WI. Most areas accepted it and that's great. I like hunting with my RRA predator HP it done me right this year anyway. I think when posting a drive up on the ridge of the riverbed the 20 round mag may come in handy. Reloading is a pain in the butt.

Yeah that's all i have is RRA poly 20's and function has been phenomenal. I really like them, but they will get my 5 bucks lol I cant help it. Curiosity will get me on this one, and shipping isn't an issue because I need more mags anyway. I only have 3 20's, and some states I want to hunt in might require me to have a 5 or 10. I'm thinking 2 more RRA 20's, plus 1 of these moses 20's and 1 each of RRA 5 and 10 rounder. I will throw a review of the moses machine mag on here once i pick it up.
  12. I will lug the weight around, its worth it when you see that deer. I cant wait to post a drive up on the ridge overlooking the riverbed and have a few run out. "switch you selector lever from safe to semi, and scan you lane" hahahaha
  13. Welcome, and good luck! hope you get it all figured out the .308 AR type rifle is just awesome and you will have a blast once its running right!
  14. I have neither the time nor the initial investment funds to reload right now, but hopefully next year. I have a RRA predator HP and out of the box, 100 yards benchrest I was at 3/4" first time out. I shot 168 grain FGMM and have a 20" barrel, and did no break in as the barrel is a heavy stainless that is cryogenically treated, air gauged and triple lapped. If you have accuracy issues I can say that the FGMM is very very accurate, and will put a huge deer down hard. Hope it helps!
  15. See this is exactly why I posted this thread. I am getting good consistent advice. The barnes TSX and the accubond have been recommended multiple times, so they are the frontrunners. I will shoot both of them and see which pattern makes me comfortable, and feel a bit better in the woods next year. I was concerned that the FGMM might just explode in a big buck if I hit him wrong.

    Oops new guy

thanks guys. Thats good livin mrmackc! My father was a 105mm towed gunner in vietnam, and I shot the 105, 155mm and the MLRS. Artillery, king of battle! Thanks for your service sir. I bet your back still aches thinking about shifting while banging around in that duece and a half hahaha suspension like a brick.
  17. My S&W Bought in 2006. It was a gift from me to myself for not letting anyone shoot my ass off in Iraq hahaha. Nice piece and very accurate!

Yup the bonus tags didnt help either some of the real back country poor locals up there would shoot 18 a year and sell the hides and stuff to make some money. Those bonus permits used to be $2. But the herd should have long since bounced back and it hasnt.
  20. First timer on pete but I tell ya what i'll be on that lake like stink on poop come Ice next winter!! Love it also caught a 22inch channel cat out there. Let me know we should hit the hard water some time. Yeah how bout them 27" inchers holy moly thats a lot of fish! caught on a tipdown, ultralight rod with three pound ice line hahaha thought it was gonna break the line, pole, something but made it anyway.
  21. Lolz his neck was so puffed up it was insane. When we walked up on him I smelled his glands stankin before i saw where he was laying, young man was out in the prowl full rut looking for love! Yeah though I love those mounts too I think they look great. Cant wait to get the shoulder mount of my booner back.

Sorry about your herd man hope it recovers. That is a great concern here too. The northern half of WI is trash now with the wolves they turned loose. I am worried the hunting down here will soon go to poop as well.

In WI you get a buck and doe tag with your archery deer permit, and a buck and doe tag with your gun permit. That's 4 if you hunt both, but I gun hunt in an area where you have to pay $12 for a special permit specifically for that area so I ended up with five. The doe you get with gun permit isn't weapon specific, so it was one of the three I killed with the bow. Those 3 deer will feed my family almost all the meat we eat in a year. (I have a ton of meat) I buy beef about 5 pounds a year, i'm just not used to chemicals and antibiotics as much anymore. I like a purer leaner meat. It was an exiting year!
  24. HA! my RRA .308 weighed prob 9-10 before optic, so then add the optic and a full mag might as well carry a howitzer!
  25. Now i'm curious if i could even lift it one armed and tilt is sideways. It weighs a ton!
