  1. @Stubbie68that rifle looks beautiful. Glad you don’t mind the weight, I am sure that thing will make some nice groups from the prone or a bench. Even with that shorter rail it doesn’t take away from it at all, makes it easier to adjust your gas block. I have 3 rifles with 15 inch handguards and SLR adjustable gas blocks that are a pain to reach when trying to adjust them. Probably next builds I will go shorter with the rails for that reason. That’s a damn fine build though and half the fun is playing around with new parts later.
  2. Don’t worry, we are careful. The wife knows what she is doing and does a lot of reading.
  3. Well considering my whole family should already be dead from Covid according to the White House, CNN and Fauci, I am not gonna worry. My wife heats everything to the proper temperature for the proper amount of time and we make sure it all seals. And though you can use an insta pot, we don’t because we have the much larger pressure canners. besides, I ate sh1t in Afghanistan on raids of compounds that was left sitting out for God knows how long by the Taliban. Lol.
  4. So Elizabeth says people that say not to do it is because it isn’t FDA approved because they haven’t run their own studies and test to see if it keeps a constant pressure. However the FDA is government funded (manipulated) and insure as hell don’t trust them. Some insta pots even have buttons for canning. Lol. Elizabeth is also part of some of a lot of canning groups, including many that say F the FDA and their rules. She has canned many things the FDA doesn’t approve, and it has worked out just fine, some things are trial and error. She suggests Facebook groups such as Canning Rebels, Rebel Canners, and Canning and Preserving With Love. Elizabeth does have two Presto 23 quart canners that she runs at the same time. She suggests anyone starting out to get: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ball-Canning-Jar-Lifter-with-Non-Slip-Handles-1-Count/20469603 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ball-Jar-Wide-Mouth-Fermentation-Lids-Mason-Jar-Lids/275768754 and she suggests starting small with easy stuff like fruit, basically high in acid stuff is the easiest. And pickling things is pretty easy and last long, if you are into pickled stuff. Some brands of lids and jars really suck. So do research in off brands before you buy so lids don’t pop and you loose tons of stored food. Ball, Kerr, Golden Harvest always seem good to go. And keep an eye out for used jars, especially at estate sales. and if you aren’t sure if you can can something, give it a try in small amounts, you will be able to tell if and when it goes bad. Anything that is canned at Walmart can be canned at home 😉
  5. @Asetechrail damn good job taking care of things the way you have been. Seems you are getting it squared away with just a bit of reading. It sucks that they had it so screwed up when it got to you. Never heard of them having those issues barrel and gas block issues. At least you got some bones to build off of though. funny thing is my agency tells us not to lube the recoil system. I always have because I did in the military and definitely doesn’t run smoothly unless you do lightly lube it, plus it is like nails on a chalk board when it is dry.
  6. I have my wife making a list of things she would recommend as a beginner. She actually started out hot water bathing, not using a pressure canner. And she canned a lot of stuff. Was cheap and easy, just took a little longer for some stuff. Acidy stuff cans good with hot water baths though. that electric canner looks cool but man is it pricey, and really isn’t that necessary. Although canning on a glass cook top can be bad, you are correct on that. So maybe the electric canner would be a good fit for you. My wife has also done some canning in her insta pots.
  7. Oh we still plan on it. Might even shave off 5 years and retire earlier than planned if the world keeps going like it is.
  8. Yup, just got more canning to do. Got to think of more meals that can be canned also since we generally don’t like just canning ingredients
  9. So we are all meeting in Arizona for the reset, right?
  10. Yes I agree. on a side note, I think our society is the disaster. Need a good natural reset.
  11. Lol. Yes she has been doing that for a few years now. 😂 oh crap, I guess you are right and I am trapped. Lol. Just glad I am trapped with one that supports my gun habit.
  12. Anytime! Guess if you decide you need something lighter you can always build another rifle 😉
  13. We’ll the sister in law is a CNA so she could take care of you and nurse you back to health. 😂 hey you asked for pictures. Figured you would like the bikini pic and then I can also show off my trophy wife at the same time… just wondering when she will realize she is way out of my league. Lol.
  14. Well pretty sure she puts out, but that’s of no use to my wife or I. So fair trade for both parties. 😂 Yesterday I send a nice “Ball” pic and I get nothing, now I want pics of some chick. Where is the love for my Balls? 😂 Fine Tom, I guess we are killing this thread, gonna probably be another page before we get back on track.
  15. by laughing earlier at the poor life decisions comment… and since you are the king of the degenerates here, any girl that winds up with you is probably making some sort of poor life decision. 😂 just making fun of you because I love you. Would be freaking epic if you dated my wife’s sister. I think they would get pissed at how well we get along and “encourage” each other. Lol
  16. Welcome stubbie. Once you have this thing built, unless you just bench shoot or shoot from the prone at long distances at your local range, you may get tired of this thing’s weight with a 20 inch bull barrel. I went with a 16”modified (little less girth in areas) bull barrel on my .260 rem and that is the only change I wish I would have done. I would have gone with a much lighter barrel, maybe not a pencil barrel, but probably a step up. I am sure yours will shoot great and if it works for you and you are happy with it, that’s all that matters.
  17. Al I could use the same training. Lived in wisconsin my whole life besides the military and I suck at prepping for cold weather. I sweat like crazy even in the coldest weather, especially my feet and hands, doesn’t matter how little insulation i have. And also I am a cheap bastard, not wanting to spend money on new or high quality clothing. I do plan on solving any cold weather problems after retirement by going tropical. Lol
  18. When I told Elizabeth you wanted to trade, I swear to God she asked if she was trading her sister for some of your canned broth. also that looks really really good
  19. now I have to make a shelf or two for half gallons. 😂 She actually lives down by him. Lol.
  20. @shepp I will ask Elizabeth if she wants to do any trading. Lol. We don’t use broth a lot but damn does yours look good the whole process through brother. @Magwa yes I did marry way above my pay grade. She cooks, homeschools the three boys, coupons, helps cut up deer and other animals, cans, sews, and she is also a trophy wife, especially since she lost over 60 pounds last year and is the best shape of her life. Just not the best house keeper, but nobody is perfect. Lol. @jtallen83 and @unforgiven we may have ticked off the local Walmart stockers because every time the jars or lids come into stock, we buy as much as possible. Plus we have ordered them a lot offline and had them delivered. We have slowed down a lot on buying jars and regular mouth lids the last month or two because we have plenty. Although wife is still trying to get more widemouth lids and on her way to the store to get half gallon jars that are supposedly in stock. 😂 @Rsquared idk if we will be a rally point because we might want to be taking our goods south to warmer climates if shtf. 😂 @DNP, @98Z5V, and any of you other degenerates, I could care less if you went for my wife’s younger sister. I was just protecting all you horndogs from a girl that will definitely need some training. Lol. You all are over qualified for her. She usually only goes for guys with warrants, felony records, probation or parole, no valid license, no insurance, no job, no place of living, no education, at least two baby mammas and not taking care of their children, living off the tax payers, and abusive. So by all means, one of you please whip that girl into shape, but I am not responsible for the hard work it might be. 😂
  21. I looked at them, but I don’t see anything about them being bonded bullets.
  22. I sure hope you do 😁 @Cliff R I have hear of people purposefully shooting the front shoulders out, but idk if I could being myself to pull the trigger on that shot unless I had no other option. I hunt for meat and try to have as little of damaged meat as possible. But I can totally understand why you take that shot. I have seen heart shot deer go over 150 yards into some thick stuff and lung shot deer go over a mile. Some animals just have more of a will to live than others. this year I shot two doe actually in the head. I usually don’t take that shot, but one I spooked and was behind a tree only presenting its head and neck at about 100 yards. The other was about 40 yards from me and again behind a tree only presenting its head. Both those deer dropped instantly with my .260 rem. Idk if I would have taken those shots though with the 6mm arc, on duty I have shot deer in the head at point blank range with my .223 duty rifle that were hit by a car, and the bullet hit their very angled skull and deviated from its course, not striking the brain. Now would that have happened with a bonded or monolithic bullet? Probably not. so right now I think I am gonna go with the heaviest and best bc bullets for hunting that are either bonded or monolithic. Unfortunately the bonded or monolithic 6mm bullets available are mostly made for the .243 win that shoots shorter and lighter bullets 100 gr or lighter. Hopefully hornady and other companies start creating heavier 6mm bonded and monolithic bullets because of the growing popularity of 6mm arc and 6mm creedmoor. As of right now the heaviest bonded bullet for 6mm is 90 gr and the heaviest monolithic is 95 gr. and to get back on post topic, I really need to find someone to paint my rifles because I don’t trust myself to do it and I don’t want to spend several hundred to have a shop do it. Lol
  23. @Siscothat sucks to hear that brother. I think they want to do something similar here to prevent crop damage, but they seem to be failing miserably. Deer harvests are down and populations here are supposedly the highest they have been in 40 years. Even after the 9 day hun season I am still seeing over 12 deer at a time in the corn fields. A lot of it I think is due to private land management. maybe come hunt down with me next year 😉
  24. Majority of people had problems with their tomatoes. Amish just are blessed by God in the garden. 😂 we have some soup bone frozen, but we have no stocks/broth. We do have full soups and stews with meat and veggies canned. Also we take our canned venison and save all the juices from the jar after the solids are eaten, and we use that as broth for different things, just isn’t as much of it. and Neal, make me a list of things you want from the Amish up here and you can pre-order in bulk if you want. It’s not uncommon for us to pre-order sometimes 5 bushels of something and when they get that amount picked, they will hold onto it and get to a non-Amish person to borrow their phone. she has a younger sister who is lazy and useless, makes poor decisions and doesn’t plan for the future. I like you all to much to do that to any of you… including Neal. Lol. I will show you all more once we finish canning and building the shelves for the year. Just come hold out with me if the apocalypse does happen 😉
  25. Elizabeth had been canning the last couple of months like crazy. Things slowed down because of holidays but a lot of stuff is in the freezer just waiting. I also got her a second pressure canner, so she runs two of the large ones at once. we buy multiple truck loads of peppers, onions, squash, tomatoes, apples, and many other things by the bushels from the Amish who are locally growing it. Most things are 1/2 to 1/10 the cost that we would pay at any grocery store. Wife keeps an eye out for sales as well. Our upstairs 6x7 pantry is literally packed from floor to 9 foot ceiling with jars and other type of packaged food… so I started building shelves in the basement for everything the wife was canning this year. Wood is also from the Amish. Again, so much cheaper. And once it is done, it will hold 1092 quart jars. Also building another shelf for pints that is just a few feet shorter than this one and will hold well over 1200 pints. so far we have over 800 quarts canned and idk how many hundreds of pints. With the cost of meat and other stuff, 90% of it is locally grown and almost all the meat is hunted.
