Lol.... welcome to the wacky world of the non-milspec 308ar.... there is a practical reason though... it works and the charging handle channel would have to be wider then needed... as well as the gas key BTW... if you haven't read this yet... you might be interested... https://forum.308ar.com/topic/15124-pa10-nitrated-18-nb-bcg-gen-2-observations/ and... https://forum.308ar.com/topic/15565-psa-pa10-genii-lower-with-pa-65-65cm-20-rifle-length-gas-upper-review-psa-nailed-it/

Completely normal for a 308AR. Insert, but do not twist 90 degrees... install FP ... etc
-
Frankly, that would be a massive undertaking... PSA alone is constantly changing things. It would need a LOT of time and focus ... and might just drive someone nuts, since there is no milspec for .308 AR's. Kind of like "what parts from my Chevy fit on the Ford ?" We all could try... but if you try.. go slow, you'll find posting such a thread , it needs to be very well thought out. I would start with the 2 linked threads here.... the "Buffer system" one and the "BCG dimensions" one... be sure to ask permission prior to posting the authors results. I still think those need to be a permanent post. As the thread progresses... that consider adding other stuff. And frankly, since whomever doom-ass messed up the "edit" feature... the 30min countdown makes adding info, IMHO, a PITA... ( No Offense to the Mods and webpage, and I sadly agree with the 30mins solution... danged dipshot posters ) I am curious if we could get others to help as well.

Hotwrench found the other BCG dimensions thread... I added my PSA Nib BCG dimensions to it... that thread should be a sticky as well... IMHO https://forum.308ar.com/topic/14767-new-20-barrel-now-it-short-strokes/?page=2

New 20" barrel, now it short strokes
bfoosh006 replied to Dracomeister's topic in General Discussion
I will say... My PSA PA10 GenII supplied BCG is a dead on visual ringer to the Fulton Armory one you linked to. Same amount of forward assist cuts, and visually indentical. Here are its measurements as best I can... PSA NIB OEM BCG Measurements ( DPMS Pattern ) as supplied by PSA July 2017 BC face to Charging Handle notch ------ ----------------- .3845" Bolt Length ( AR 10 & spring loaded FP may be different ) -- 2.925" BC face to Gas Key ( interface with Gas Tube ) -------------- 0.307" BC face to end of Gas Key Base ------------------------------ 2.7685" BC face to inner Cam Pin slot ----------------------------------- 1.156" BC face to outer Cam Pin Hole ----------------------------------- 0.4575" Bolt Face to BC face ( locked position , BCG assembled )---- 0.5865" Complete Gas Key Length ( rear base to where Gas Tube enters--2.4645" So very slight differences... And some of the longer measurements could just be the coating wearing down, IMHO Ooops... and my BCG doesn't have forward assist cuts clear to the cotter key hole like a WMD .308 Nib BCG.... the various holes are similar... but FA may have spec'd less assist cuts on theirs. -

CS Manager / Supervisor. ...Lol, even then you NEED to follow up. For various reasons. IE ... if you don't get a contact e-mail from the supervisor... you may not have spoken to a Supervisor.... so be sure to get an e-mail address. -
I found this thread concerning "Buffers, receiver extensions, stocks, and springs".... https://forum.308ar.com/topic/10133-buffers-receiver-extensions-stocks-and-springs/

Specific questions require a few days to receive a response from the assemble folks, and even then it typically is completely wrong. Even the CS answers are "odd" ... Answers like "we don't show that in our cataloged system / for sale system"... The armorer's are not here... That part doesn't exist... I went through that while looking for a missing part on a complete PSA upper, a part that came on numerous other PSA uppers set up from them with the same parts. Just sayin' -

Oops ... edit to add... I have never been able to speak with anyone in the Assembly Dept / Gunsmithing area... ever ... almost like they aren't in the same general property. -

And I meant to add, in context to the "who makes the PSA product" comments.... IMHO, if someone else is making assembling the uppers / rifles... that would also help explain the odd / never quite makes sense shipping times for various uppers and such. -

I will weigh the "New" buffer and measure the tubes depth. I completely agree with the H3 minimum. I will also check the potential over travel with the BCG in the "New" tube... ( the over travel part that breaks bolt releases ) I am really beginning to think PSA is not building their sold product.... seriously... I suspect it is just like their parts supply chain... MANY different companies. I have so much more first hand contact with PSA CS that I haven't shared yet... mostly because it isn't polite. I have posted my comment from here in another webpages industry forum, on PSA's sub forum webpage. There are just to many hands in the PSA pot for anything to go right. ..And PSA can't possibly be the only hands. -
Frankly, ordering another upper is a safe bet. That's what I did. With that said.... PSA is constantly changing manufacturing vendors or parts. With that said... I would buy a few of the bolt releases, a mag release, firing pins, I have broken the barrel nut as well... it is 7075 aluminum.. ( JL Billet supplies those.... http://www.jlbillet.com/308-free-float-m-lok-handguards/ ) so a spare 30 dollar part can save you from buying a different FF tube, I believe the current producer of BCG's is Azumith Technology... but it is not sold to the public.... http://www.azimuthtechnology.com/ Remember what I said about various manufacturers.... well PSA really does run amok with parts, hiring all sorts of suppliers... I strongly suspect KAK was supposed to make the HP bolts and small diameter firing pin..... well since then, If no one has noticed... PSA has added to the 6.5CM upper description.. " Bolt Carrier Group Included: Yes, PA-10 BCG ... I have been told the the HP bolts and small diameter FP didn't work right. KAK still has an identical HP .308 FP for sale... I bought one and it matches mine exactly. I also suspect the various other small parts are from KAK as well. https://www.kakindustry.com/lr-308-parts/kak-bcg-fire-pin-mag-hp Honestly... I don't think we will ever know who supplied all the parts... simply because PSA uses so many different suppliers for the same parts and they are manufactured to PSA's spec... so it might not even be on the manufacturers website... !? I will try to investigate the BCG more.

Soooo.... I bought another complete PA10 lower.... is has a longer carbine buffer tube, a regular AR15 length buffer, and a longer buffer spring then my first PA10 lower. I haven't measured them yet... but is sure looks like a Armalite .308 length buffer system. So... prior to any purchasing of buffer parts, I strongly suggest you post photos of what actually came with your rifle. The "new" longer length buffer tube is marked "PA10" with the PSA "Logo" as well ... the buffer is AR15 length ( no markings ) as hand compared to a spare AR15 carbine buffer I have laying around. Here are some side by side photos for comparison...the "New" sized buffer system is on the left. The older "DPMS" style buffer systems is on the right. I am now wondering how many times the different ones have been used... and how many times it may have caused mayhem and confusion.

I believe in the Cold Bore Shot. There are so many variables involved in it.... how well is the rifle built ?... How tuned is the ammo? Is it a high quality barrel ? How high a quality Scope is being used ?...I could go on and on... but you can see what I mean The Ranger / Sniper probable uses a highly tuned firearm built by the Army Armory's Shop... so his answer might be true in his experience with a highly tuned rifle... I don't know. But I have seen a stray cold bore shot from all sorts of rifles...frankly, I'd love to try his rifle and see if it is true. On the flip side.... we all are capable of being the "cold shooter" ... so IMHO, there are just to many variables involved to be able to outright say its mostly the shooter. So.... I guess I can't say if it is true or not. Was the Ranger / Sniper in any way connected to the "Free Targets" ? I do not consider them free if I have to sign up with my e-mail to receive said free targets..... after clicking on the "Free Targets" and being led to another page that needs my e-mail"

When you have completed the Lapping / Trueing it will look like this... ther is nothing to be gained by going deeper with the lapping. ( My completed receiver face, is the first photo ) The next photo is mine as well.. it is hard to see, but you can just make out the beginning of it at about the 8 o'clock position. With no lapping at the opposite side. -

Truing / Lapping the receiver face. I want to show how little material is removed. This first photo is from the internet... It was trued with a lathe, and he used a dye to monitor the progress... you can image how little thickness a dye would add. You can image how going deeper with the cut , by just a few thousands will alter the receiver face. Allowing it to be truer. -
