  1. The pics aren't showing up for me. I use Varget as well for my loads. I'm using 44.7grns under a 168grn Barnes TTSX.
  2. I got tired of fighting the PA EPT trigger at the bench. It isn't as good as folks make it seem. It's better than a milspec, but not as good as a decent aftermarket trigger. I've become a fan of CMC triggers. I picked up a CMC Lantac ECT1 flat trigger for my PA10 from Primary Arms on one of their sales. Got it for 99.00. I really like it a lot. I have one on a Seekins Precision AR15, and it is very nice. I haven't had a chance to shoot the PA10 with it yet, but I'm expecting better results at the bench.
  3. Did you get the JP spring kit with the red hammer spring, or the yellow hammer spring? The red hammer spring is part of their enhanced reliability spring kit. It's supposed to help with preventing light strikes. I put the JP enhanced reliability spring kit in mine, and have no light strikes on steel cased ammo. I agree though, the PA10 definitely needs a better trigger. That's on my list of things to get as well.
  4. Nice groups for sure. Great work, again, bfoosh006!! Thanks for taking the time and effort to post your findings and groups.
  5. If you want some cheap plinking ammo check out the Malaysian milsurp ammo. My PA10 shoots the stuff pretty well. It can be had very reasonable, for now. Other than that, I've started reloading for my serious hunting ammo. That stuff is REAL expensive to buy at the lgs.
  6. Could that problem be caused from having two different companies for the upper and lower? Since there's no real spec for the .308 platform having an Aero lower and a Davidson Defense upper could be causing the problem due to a mismatch and lack of compatibility. Or, am I wrong in that thinking?
  7. Gotta love a day out shooting!
  8. Yea, the A2 front sight will complicate things a bit. If it's running good now it may be best to just run it, especially if you like the A2 sight. Mine was a ff rail, and the low profile gas block. Two screws holding it on. The hardest part was changing over the gas tube from the old gas block to the new gas block. that little roll pin was a pain. Other than that it was an easy swap.
  9. Those extra tungsten weights slowed her down a bit then. An adjustable gas block makes a big difference too. It was well worth it for me. My barrel, the 18" SS one, came dimpled. And, the Anderson AM15 adjustable gas block was a direct fit. It was real easy to switch it out. It's on the low end of cost for adjustable gas blocks. Even so, it's been working very well for me. My muzzle brake was the last mod I did to the rifle, and it helped as well. In fact, I've put similar muzzle brakes on all of my AR's because I liked it so much.
  10. Sounds like yours wasn't as over gassed as mine was. Mine was beating the hell out of me, and the gun. Plus, ejection was between 12-1:00, with an occasional stove pipe fte. The adjustable gas block was a good fix for that. Once I got the gas adjusted it purs like a kitten. I also added a muzzle brake, m4-72 style. That helped with the recoil and muzzle jump as well. The way mines set up now it's about like shooting my 5.56's. It's a very pleasant gun to shoot. Although, you definitely want to have hearing pro on, even when hunting. This past season I made the mistake of shooting a deer without my ear pro on, and rang my ears a bit. Luckily, it was cold out and I had plenty of head gear on. My stocking hat helped a bunch. Adding the two extra tungsten weights in the buffer helped a bunch too. Once you get yours where you want it, you'll really enjoy shooting it. I started reloading for mine. And, have a pretty good hunting load worked up now using Varget and Barnes 168grn TTSX bullets. Good luck with your rifle and keep us posted on how she's doing.
  11. Bigfoot, did you put an adjustable gas block on? And, if not, where do your shells eject to? My gun was over gassed pretty bad. So, I needed an adjustable gas block to get ejection to the 3:00 area.
  12. I just eye balled it from the opening in the upper. I looked again, and just guessing it's about 1/8" give or take.
  13. Good to hear you got her running right Bigfoot. Mine took two quarters. JTallen83, if I recall correctly I had a touch less than an 1/8" clearance from the bolt catch. Mine locks back after last round every time. No malfunctions at all with the different mods completed.
  14. Yea, I understand. The whole discussion on this is a tough one for me, since I knew many of the people killed. And, when I think to myself of all the ways this could have been prevented, yet the school administration hadn't implemented any of it, even though they could have. Texas law allows for districts to train and arm teachers that want to be armed. In fact, we have districts already doing that very thing. And, then there's the side issue that has come up regarding bullying. I could write a book about the bullying in my school district. I had to remove my youngest son from the district due to severe bullying. In fact, it was so severe that kids had threatened to kill my son. We reported everything to the principal, nothing was done. We reported to the superintendent, nothing was done. We went to the school board, nothing was done. We even went to the SFISD police, and again, nothing was done. One child even brought a knife to school, and threatened my son with it. My sons crime, and reason for the bullying, he was a black kid in an all white school. Santa Fe is well known in the area as a location where the KKK live. In fact, one resident here has a large brick wall and gate at the entrance to his place, with a a very large dragon, and the words Dragons Den at the entrance. It's rumored he is, or was, a leader in the KKK. The police said they could do nothing until SOMETHING happened. What that something was is anybody's guess. Because, they took no interest in the allegation that a kid brought a knife to school as a threat to stab my son. So, I removed my son from the district and enrolled him in a charter school. He excelled, and graduated a full year before his peers. He would've been a senior at SFHS this year. I'm glad I got him out of there. In SFISD there are lots of good people, teachers, admin, and students. It only takes ONE though to commit this kind of heinous crime, this kind of tragedy. I truly love my town, even with all of it's faults. The tragedy should never have happened. It was, and is, preventable. It is just going to take men and women in power to drop their nuts and do something about it. And, it's going to take people that live here to insist they do something about it. My biggest fear is that this situation will just be forgotten over time, and nothing will be done. People have a way of just, forgetting. They'll go on about their lives, and forget what happened in my little town. And, when the smoke clears, it'll be the same podunk town with the same problems it had as before. Just waiting for another tragedy to happen.......................................
  15. All of my AR's, including the .308, have muzzle brakes. They're LOUD. I've had a few folks make comments, and ask what I'm shooting. I heard a fella next to me exclaim once "that damn thing knocked my hat off". LMBO, well, I'm sorry sir. ?
  16. Think about the last sentence you wrote. Also, think about why you conceal carry at all, anywhere. The last ten words you wrote say "until the SRO or person WITH A GUN CAN ARRIVE". Well sir, if you're carrying concealed you are ALREADY there with a gun, and can defend yourself or others. If you're unarmed, you're at the mercy of the killer. AND, you're now waiting for the person WITH A GUN. Think about that for a minute. God bless our teachers. I love all of them. After I retired from the prison system in Texas I went to work in Santa Fe High School as a substitute teacher, and worked with the two teachers who were killed. I'd give anything if I could have been there to take their place. Instead, after about 3 months as a sub and seeing what goes on in the high school, I went back to work in the prison system, where my skill set was more appreciated and useful.
  17. Take 98Z5V up on his offer. There's nothing to lose, and your rifle will be running good afterwards. I'd be interested to find out what he discovers after getting your parts to him.
  18. I agree. Which then brings up the question, how do we protect the children in the schools when society does NOT address the real issues? That means some hard choices have to be made. Choices about securing our schools make some people uncomfortable. They don't want the schools to be like a "PRISON". Well, take your pic. Do we want our kids in danger? Or do we want to ensure that the only people who enter that have a gun are the good guys? I personally chose the latter. Gun free zones DO NOT WORK, period. End of story. A gun free zone is an invitation to a person with a criminal mind. It's like letting the fox into the hen house, a feeding frenzy. In this school shooting we lost two substitute teachers, who were trying to PROTECT the kids. Guess what, no guns on them. So, they protected the kids by taking a bullet for them. They DIED protecting our kids, WITHOUT a gun. Wouldn't it have been better if they protected the kids by killing that piece of poop, with their own gun? I mean, really. If we don't want our schools to be like a prison, where everyone is checked at the door with metal detectors and there's only one way in or out, then we must give our teachers the ability to protect both the students and themselves. At least give them the CHOICE to have the ability to protect the children and themselves. Right now there are too many folks, mostly from the outside of our town, who are saying no to this idea. As if THEY know what's best for our kids. I've heard many say that teachers are only supposed to TEACH our kids, they have enough to worry about without carrying a gun. Or, no, don't give them a gun, they might shoot innocent kids. Well, guess what. Without a gun, they ALL get shot. NOBODY is protected. And, for those who say have cops on campus, WE DID. One of them confronted the person very quickly, and he was shot. In fact, our police response was EXCELLENT. Much better than the Parkland shooting in Florida. Our guys DID go in and take action. 10 people still lost their lives. We can play what if games all day long. The bottom line is that if Mrs Perkins, or Miss Tisdale had had a gun on them, they and the other students may not have died that day. The choice is ours really. The real question in my mind is do we CONDEMN our teachers and students to the reality of NOT having the ability to defend themselves, and be at the mercy of a crazed killer? Or, do we give them a chance to survive a deadly attack. We can at least give the TEACHERS that choice. I also believe that anyone who has a License To Carry in the state of Texas should be allowed to carry in the schools. Who better to protect our kids but their parents who are packing. These choices, are simple choices. To me, they're common sense. Yet, I see people on Facebook, and in forums elsewhere, discussing all kinds of bullpoopy that mostly centers around gun control. And, NONE of them has a clue what the hell they're talking about. They honestly believe that banning guns, or increasing the difficulty in getting guns, will stop a violent crazy person. They don't have the sense to look at what gun control has done in the past. They don't have the damn sense to see that gun control hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried. Gun control has NEVER worked to stop violence, and it never will. Guns aren't violent, PEOPLE are. Yea, I know. I'm preaching to the choir. Thanks for listening fella's.
  19. Gentlemen, I'm saddened to see that the tragedy in my town has us calling each other names, and arguing. That's what the left wants, us divided. Don't give them that satisfaction. Respect goes a long way when in a controversial discussion on a topic we all hold dear. This tragedy didn't happen on the East coast, or the West coast. It happened in TEXAS. Texas is a state in which we hold our 2nd Amendment rights very close. This happened in a town where most of us love our guns, hunting, and shooting. I have not seen ANYONE that actually lives in my town advocate for ANY type of gun control, period. It's always folks from outside who come in that want to tell us how to live. Well, quite frankly, that pisses most of us off. Securing schools is not rocket science. It's quite simple really. Our court houses are safe. Our planes are safe. Our banks are safe. Our government buildings are safe. Generally speaking, we hold our judges, lawyers, airplanes, legislators, and money to be more valuable than our children. Think about that for a minute. Securing our schools against violence should be an easy task, if the school districts would actually hold our kids just as valuable as they hold their money. If judges and lawyers are more valuable than our kids, there's a problem with our value system. And, God forbid if anything happens to legislators or our money. Our children need to be more valuable than anything. Yet, it's become obvious to me they're not. Yea, it's a simple problem, with simple solutions. And, NONE of them require ANY gun control. I do appreciate you gentlemen discussing this tragedy. Idea's about how to prevent from happening are always welcome. Please understand though, in my eye's, the solution is real simple. A blind man could see it. And, it sickens me that so many don't.
  20. My biggest problem with the shooting is that the kid got a hold of his dads shotgun, and his dads pistol, supposedly without his dad knowing. All three of my kids are adopted. Prior to CPS placing our kids with us they did a home inspection. One of the first questions they asked was if I had guns. Of course I did, lots of them. I was in law enforcement, and hunted. So, CPS said that we MUST purchase a gun safe to secure my guns in so the kids would be safe. I asked about a regular gun cabinet. NO, a gun cabinet was not sufficient for CPS. So, my wife and I went to Academy and purchased a nice sized Cannon gun safe. That was 21yrs ago. The gun safe still works great. And, I've never once worried about my kids getting to any of my guns unsupervised. Gun safes WORK, when used properly and responsibly. Had the shooters father done the same, perhaps those 10 people would be alive today. My young friends family, Chris Stones family, have already filed a law suite against the shooters parents for failing to secure the dads firearms, among other things. I agree with their suite. If you own guns, and all of us here do, secure your weapons so no unauthorized users can get to them. A gun safe is a modest investment compared to most of our collections. My gun safe was about 900.00 back in 1997, and I was glad to pay it. It's more than paid for itself over the years just in the satisfaction of knowing my kids were safe, and my guns were secure when I wasn't using them.
  21. He killed the girl first, from what the kids are saying. Shot her at least twice in the head, as she layed on the floor. They say though that before he could get to her he had to shoot the kid who was trying to hold the classroom door closed. Once inside the room he went after the girl, supposedly. He didn't stop with her though. He went on killing. Our resource officer tried to stop him, but got shot himself. My young friend was killed in the large closet where he and other kids were trying to hide. The POS shooter shot my friend through the door as he was trying to hold the door closed, to protect his friends. Other kids were able to escape the room, supposedly through a back door to the room, that went into another classroom. My sons friends told us Friday night that the shooter had been reported several times to the admin of the school for his "weird" behavior that made them uncomfortable. Nobody did anything. They never bothered to even talk to the kid, according to the kids we talked with. My friends in law enforcement tell me that once they were able to corner the kid in the art room he gave up and came out. The coward didn't have the guts to go out in a blaze of gun fire, or to shoot himself as he had planned. He is, and always will be, a coward. It is believed by many of the students that he just ran out of ammo, or became so nervous he was unable to reload the loose rounds. I would guess it was the latter. A lot has come out that allege he was bullied at school, and that may have been a contributing factor. I've made a few posts on Facebook regarding this issue. I don't know if it's appropriate or not for me to share one of the posts here. Forgive me please if it's not. Here is the post: While I can’t say for sure if he was bullied or not, I can tell you for a fact that the school administration has allowed bullying in the past. And they did nothing to stop it. My youngest son was severely bullied, to the point he called me crying to come get him. He said they were going to kill him. So my wife and I rushed to the school. We had a meeting with the principal, in which she stated a month previously he had a fight in the bathroom. She then tells me he had gotten assaulted in the bathroom a week earlier. And, then she told me other kids had called him the “N” word. I was livid. This principal NEVER called us for any of the incidents. When I asked her what she had done to stop the incidents, she explained she brought them in her office together and told them that my son had reported them. She asked them to “make up, and be friends, shake hands”. No punishment was given to anyone. I pulled my son out of the school. He graduated from a charter school a year before his peers. That same principal who allowed the bullying of my son, and did nothing about it, is now the principal of the high school. That’s right. She got a promotion. I went to the superintendent. I contacted the school board. Nothing was ever done that I’m aware of. I’m certainly glad that I pulled my son out of the district. It sure looks like the culture that allowed the bullying of my son is still occurring there. And, btw, this would have been his senior year. Thankfully, he excelled at the other school and graduated early. My other two kids also told me kids tried to bully them. They’re fighters though. They had a few fights, off campus, and gained respect. They gained enough respect kicking ass that nobody had the guts to mess with them anymore. They told me kids would call them the “N” word as well. My youngest isn’t a fighter. The bully’s wouldn’t leave him alone. My three kids are adopted. One African American, two that are half Hispanic and half White. I only tell y’all this so you will know that bullying at the SFISD schools has been a problem in the past. And, the administration didn’t do anything to stop it. Furthermore, I had to find out because my child called me “daddy, please come get met, they’re going to kill me”. The administration then, is the same damn administration now. The culture of any institution is a direct reflection of its leadership. If you want to change the culture, change the leadership. I want y’all to know also that even if the shooter was bullied it does NOT give him any excuses. It just may point to an indication of possible motive. And it’s an area the school administration has control to change. They can change the culture of the school. I’ve written several posts elsewhere on changes that need to be made to make our schools safer, ways to harden them and secure them better, ways to increase response capabilities. I’ll not clutter this thread with them. Suffice to say gun control is not how you do it.
  22. This is something I never thought of doing, and had never heard of until you posted it. Looks like a good permanent solution to a dimension problem. My problem is that I'm so ham handed I'd prolly screw up my buffer tube and end up buying a new one................quarters were easiest for me. I'll never be broke. I'll always have at least 50 cents I can pull out,.....................for half a cup of water. LOL
  23. Looks like you might need to put a couple quarters in your tube behind the spring. Your bcg is hitting the receiver at the threads. To fix the over gas problem an adjustable gas block is an easy fix. Once you put an adjustable gas block on and get it tuned right your shoulder will stop hurting. On mine I also put a good muzzle brake on it that helped a lot. Shooting it now is about like shooting my AR15's. Prior to installing the adjustable gas block I was having a few fte. After the gas block and adjusting, zero malfunctions. I'll mention also that if your buffer is only an H buffer you can help your rifle by putting two more tungsten weights in the buffer. This will make it an H3 buffer, and helps a bit with the functioning of the rifle. I got extra tungsten weights off of ebay.
  24. Hi guys. Today has been a very sad day. Many of my friends and family were affected by the school shooting in Santa Fe, TX. Thank you to all for your prayers . Here is a link to some of what's been happening. Friends were lost today. Thread on Santa Fe, TX school shooting. A tragic day.
