  1. First, as a hunter, I'd suggest that getting a .308 AR is NOT so that you can spray and pray you hit the target animal. This idea that all hunters take running shots at deer is simply not accurate. In fact, I would suggest it's the opposite. Most of my hunting friends want the deer broadside, and standing still. They take great measures to ensure they DON'T take a running shot. With that said, I think the PA10 in .308 will make a great deer hunting rig. In fact, I put one together just for that purpose. And, I'll be using it deer hunting this next week. On a side note, I will say that fast follow up shots on deer can be made with a bolt gun, especially a light weight and good fitting bolt gun. The PA10 is much heavier than ANY of my bolt guns. And, while the rate of fire on the PA10 may be faster, it's much slower to get into action due to its weight and size. In fact, if I were to pick a rifle for hunting a drive it would NOT be a PA10, or ANY .308 AR due to their weight and size. A light weight, slicked up, well fitting, bolt gun with good optics is MUCH better. And, YES, I've shot at running game and killed it WITH A BOLT GUN. However, I prefer a standing broad side shot. A .308 AR is NOT a fix for inadequate abilities with a bolt gun in a hunting situation. Here's a pic of my PA10.
  2. I can't see most of the photo's either. Not sure why. I do see a couple though, but the rest don't show up.
  3. I think bfoosh006 has done the most extensive work on the PA10 platform so far. I'm on a lot of gun boards, and his work has been the best on it. And, in my experience with my rifle, he is spot on. Once I made a few tweaks to my PA10 it's running how I like it. Out of the box it came way over gassed, and the bolt carrier was out of time just a bit putting marks on the receiver. However, it shot everything I put into it. I think over time, as with any new model of anything, it'll get better and better.
  4. PSA should be paying you for your write ups!! Once again, thanks for the hard work!
  5. bfoosh006, I tried some of the 150grn Fusion, and it shoots good. It and the Core Lokt stuff are neck and neck. They both shoot to the same poa for me. So, that's good. Right now I'm down to one box of Core lokts, and I have 3 boxes of Fusion. So, the Fusion is going with me on my hunts.
  6. Here’s another. The only ammo they had for the .308 was the Malaysian milsurp. Keep in mind these youngsters have NEVER been allowed to take any of my rifles to the range by themselves. This was their first time on their own at the range. They didn’t do too bad. My son, mitch sent me a pic of one target. All their shots with my .308 was at 100. They weren’t concerned about groups they just enjoyed blasting with dads .308, lol.
  7. I let my 20 and 18 year old sons take my rifle to the range yesterday. They had a ton of fun with it. Some of their texts let me know the mods I made were the right ones. Thanks bfoosh6 for your suggestions and hard work on your PSA PA10.
  8. Thanks! I studied your thread extensively. I learned a lot from you. I may go with a Tubbs spring if I need to in the future. Right now she’s running great. Very fun to shoot.
  9. The first was a Pentax. A lens came loose inside of it. The second was a Nikon Prostaff 5. The O ring seal on the objective lens came loose.
  10. Scratch that. My Nikon took a crap on me. They were willing to replace it, but I was a bit impatient and took the scope back to Academy. Their range finders don't have a lifetime warranty I didn't think. I know the Vortex range finders do have a lifetime warranty. And, Vortex is what I'll be buying soon.
  11. Holy crap, the Nikon took a dump on me too. After about 100rnds the O ring seal on the front lens started coming out. So, the Nikon went back to Academy. My rifle now wears a Vortex Viper 4-16x50 HS LR. No more Nikon for me.
  12. I've gone through a few changes with my PA10 since getting it together. I've added an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 adjustable gas block. I've added two tungsten weights to the buffer. I've gone through two scopes, and ended up with a Vortex Viper 4-16x50 HS LR. And, I've added a muzzle break. I have been happy with the groups all along. However, the changes I've made have helped to make the rifle much more pleasant to shoot. My 100yrd groups are looking pretty good. This group is a five shot group, using Malaysian milsurp. Yes, it's milsurp. It's the best group I've gotten with the milsurp, and I'm a happy camper. The next groups are Remington Core Lokt 150's. They shoot really well for me, thankfully. I've got her sighted in with the Remington 150's. I've got some Fusion 150's, as Bfoosh suggested them. They shoot ok in mine, but not as tight as the Remington's. They do shoot to the same poa though, so they're going on the hunts with me too. For anyone who is concerned with the accuracy of the PA10's, I'd say stick with it. Find a load it likes, and stick with it. Luckily, mine absolutely LOVES Remington ammo, and the Malaysian milsurp. And, the milsurp shoots to the same poa as the Remington ammo. So, it's a win win for me. The best investment I made on the rifle was the adjustable gas block. Then, I'd say the tungsten weights were a big help. The muzzle break also works well for reducing recoil. She's a joy to shoot now. And, I'd say to anyone starting out on a .308 AR, get quality glass. There's nothing more frustrating than to get a scope mounted, and then have it crap out on you. It's happened twice to me on this rifle. The Vortex is the third scope I've put on it. And, hopefully, the Vortex will last. The PA10 has be a fun gun to shoot, and easy to mod. I've really enjoyed owing it. It's going to be my primary hunting rifle this year. So, hopefully at some point I'll be able to post some pics with dead deer or hogs and my rifle.
  13. Enjoy your new PA10. Post up a range report or two.
  14. 50 dollars for a background check? Safety card? 50-100 dollars for ffl transfer fee? Good grief they're raping you guys over there. Where I live there is no fee for a background check. My ffl does charge 30 to do the transfer. With my LTC card, license to carry card, they don't even do the full background check. I'm out of there in less then five minutes. I'm glad I don't live in a state that restrictive. I feel for you guys.
  15. I'll be hunting deer and hogs, at less than 300yrds. Last year I had a few shots out to about 325, but that's about the farthest I'm comfortable shooting. I've always just used the Core Lokts, for years, as they are always in stock and easy to get. I would like to try the ones you suggest though. If nothing else, to at least see if they're more accurate for me. Thanks for the suggestions. Every barrel has a mind of it's own. And, it seems everything can affect accuracy.
  16. I agree with this. Facebook is KING when it comes to social media. And, companies do pay attention to their Facebook accounts. Bad publicity on Facebook equals bad sales, and vice versa. I'd definitely contact them on Facebook. Or, even write a review of your experience with them on their Facebook account. I'll bet they contact very quickly.
  17. That's the size I used for mine.
  18. bfoosh006, have you noticed that you're getting respectable groups with 150grn bullets? After reading so much that the 1 in 10 barrels preferred heavier bullets I was surprised that mine shot 150's as good as it does. It does look like yours prefers the 168 gmm. I came close to buying 10 boxes of the gmm when PSA had them on sale for 15.99 a box, but then I read about how the bullets really aren't recommended for hunting. So, I canceled my order. My primary focus for my rifle is hunting. Can you recommend a commercially available load with 165-168grn bullets that you think would do well as a hunting round? Like I said earlier, I have used Core Lokts for my hunting bolt guns for many years. I'm always reluctant to try the real expensive hunting rounds, especially since my Remington Core Lokts have worked so well for me all these years. I've looked for 165grn Remington Core Lokt .308's, but can't find any. All I can find are the 180's or 150's. I tried the 180's, and wasn't really happy with their accuracy in my gun. The 150's did better. I can get 165's for my 30-06. So, I know they have the 30 cal 165's, but it seems they don't load them in the .308.
  19. I liked the Malaysian milsurp ammo so much I ordered a can of 540. More money..........please...........nobody tell the wife. I may need a place to stay soon.
  20. I've got a PA10 I'm happy with. It's got the 18" SS barrel and Mlock fore end. I bought the fore end and lower separate. Then put them together. The price was pretty good. The only thing on mine is that it's a bit over gassed. I'll be putting an adjustable gas block on it soon.
  21. The rifle is a PA10, 18” mid length with 15” Mlock forend.
  22. Yea, in the first post. The new scope is a Nikon Prostaff 5 3.5-14x40 SF BDC. Got it on sale for 219.00. Here is a pick of the broken Pentax.
  23. Got the new Nikon sighted in yesterday. It worked pretty good. Sighting in and movement of the adjustments was positive, and consistent. No issues to report, other than I LOVE this new scope! I took a pic of a few groups. I will say that I noticed 180grn Remington Core Lokts shot a touch higher than the 150's. Also, the 150's from Remington and Malaysian milsurp shot to the same poi. So, I was very happy about that. I was so happy I went and bought a can of 540 of the Malaysian milsurp ammo. It seems to be good stuff. And, at about 38 cents a round it's hard to beat for range ammo. 100yrd ten round group, with four in one ragged hole. I'm not a great shooter by any stretch of the imagination. So, I was pretty happy with the groupings, especially with them being regular ole factory and milsurp ammo. Some milsurp groups. On this group I pulled the left shot. Like I said, I'm not a great shooter. So, I was happy anyway. The top were Remington 150grn Core Lokts, and the bottom pics were the milsurp. Once I set the the scope for 100yrds I never adjusted again during the session. My daughter shot as well. Her shots all seemed to go a bit low and to the left a bit. We couldn't figure out why, until I looked at her form. She had on the red ear muff hearing protectors you see so often at ranges. And, it was interfering with her cheek weld on the stock, and had her eye misaligned with the scope. Thus, affecting her poi. I shoot with ear plugs in and was able to center my eye behind the scope. That makes a big difference in poi. Even with that issue my daughter did pretty good. It had been a while since she shot, and I was happy the recoil from the .308 didn't bother her. A nice fellow shooter loaned us his large sand bag for her to lay the gun on so she could shoot better. You meet the nicest people at shooting ranges.
  24. Nikon's warranty is one reason I purchased one of their scopes recently. Plus, reviews of their products mostly all seemed very positive.
  25. LOL, I suppose I could take a picture of the front lens, showing the loose lens's laying on it inside. From the outside you can't tell it's broken, unless you look through it or at the front lens, and or shake it and hear the loose lens's rattle. I plan to site in the new scope on Thursday or Friday. I suspect it will go well. I wasn't a fan of the Pentax, but you can't beat free, until free breaks on you.
