WTS: Ballistic Advantage AR 308 20" Heavy Barrel
Chuck Plissken replied to concretus's topic in For Sale or Trade
Hey Sal, I'm interested in a trade/deal. PM sent and hope to hear from ya. Mike aka Chuck -
So far..my order from dsg arms hasn't came in...it shipped late and is stuck 2 hrs away. USPS really sucks ass. To be honest it runs great. I shot 2 mags through it over the weekend with no issues like always. I run 147-150gr weights only but would like to try some 168-175gr ammo next for fun. Its a short range gun 0-500yds. I'm guessing the gas port (.082) must be a good size to send enough pressure to cycle the bolt with the shorter gas tube. I also believe the gas tube seats inside the gas key making a seal keeping pressure where it needs to be. I'm going to keep it the way it is.

Great bang for your buck. I have 2 in 308. They are a Armalite gas system. I'd like to try a 6.5 creedmore 24" barrel they have in my current build but might just stick with 308. I can shoot 1 MOA at 100yrds like they claim except I'm using cheap NATO 147gr stuff out of a 16" cut to 14.5". Very pleased for what it is.

FS CMMG 11.9" keymod rail 308AR

Still up for grabs gents!! -
Just ordered one. Even though it functions great I want it correct.
-
I should've asked you from the start. Thanks Z.

I cant find a armalite ar10 mid length gas tube anywhere. That's what I'm reading is "correct " but no luck. Any help on locating one to make it right? Armalite only has carbine and rifle lengths in stock and listed but no mods at all... Thanks for any help
-
I like a rifle caliber with a rail close to the muzzle. Just my preference. A 12.5 barrel will part well with a CMMG or CMT rail. They make 11.5" to 11.9" handguards.
-
It would be nice to have a couple of the 11" gas tubes made along with spare barrels to have. I've got one in mind to build aswell
-
This is it. Bear creek barrel but with a melonited mid-length aero precision gas tube. Having no issues. 300-400est rounds down pipe. It appears to seal against the gas key to cycle properly...so is this the time to say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" ????
-
I will do my best when I get home.
-
Cant seem to edit post but it's a cut down 16" to a 14.5 pinned bear creek barrel(mid length). Aero upper/lower and bcg . Has armalite 8" tube, spring and pws 6.8oz buffer.
-
Interesting find. I didnt realize that my bear creek barrel truly needs a Armalite gas tube and not an AR15 length. It shoots great. No issues. I'm concerned but mostly interested in what issues follow. Since it functions great is a dirtier gun all I'm in for??? Thanks for any input

Not the best picture but I can take more at home after work. Rail is great but I want the 15" model to match my barrel length better. I'd like to keep my barrel nut that's on the gun now. I do have another used one that will go with it. Its cleaned up and will work just fine. But...if you are not happy with it, I will send you the new one I get when I purchase the cmmg 15" railed model. $115 I think is a good deal and it will include shipping to the lower 48. Paypal or money order is fine. Might consider a trade for a Aero precision 15" black rail or the 15" CMMG rail. Thanks, Mike Riordan

Short to mid range configuration as of today. 14.5" cut bear creek arsenal barrel pinned AAC flash hider. Super suprised how well this thing groups. I was hesitant on the barrel but for the price took the chance and it does very well. Pretty much all is the same just shorter and a Vortex sparc AR,out a Vltor R5 tube,Armalite carbine 308 spring and 5.4oz H3 buffer. Shoots great. Eventually i will be getting a SDN-6 to keep the noise down.

It is a good deal. $55 for a 5.3oz. 98, do you plan to run or do you run suppressed? I'm thinking a 5.0-5.5oz with most gas port sizes running suppressed might not be enough weight. Hence why im going vltor buffer system and a 6.9oz PWS H4 buffer for good measure. It's a headache for me yet fun to experiment. But...the wallet is always empty with my 308ar builds lol!
-
Good to know and awesome find. I noticed to see KAK makes the 2.5" weighing in at 5.3 ounces. I have an AP carbine buffer I might swap the weights out of and get a DSG body for cheap like this. Good info!
-
Sounds like I have it sorted out thanks to you 98. I have a 16" mid and 14.5 mid 308ar builds and seem 100% fine with 5.4oz rifle buffers. When changing the 14.5 over I notice PWS sells a 6.9oz 3.25" carbine buffer I might go with. Depends on how it responds to a suppressor down the road but that's another subject. I'm interested in your new adventure with a different system. Any hints on what it is?

I can't find the post but it wasn't on here. glad to hear it's not as complicated as some made it out to be. Will be giving this a try asap. Thanks a million 98

I've read and read but not 100% on which spring to buy. Using a 3.25" buffer and Vltor 7 position buffer tube, which spring is a drop in no modification needed? I see spikes tactical has a spring for their 308 and Vltor tube which is about 11.3" long. Is this what I'm after? Here's a link. https://www.spikestactical.com/collections/lower-parts/products/parts-lower-parts-buffer-spring-308?variant=32521157836 I see an Armalite spring has been recommended but also have read it needs to be cut some for propper usage..I'm happy with my rifle buffer tube and set up but want an adjustable/collapsible stock. Thanks for any guidence.

14.5" Midlength Gas - What gas port size?
Chuck Plissken replied to Joeymac's topic in Building a .308AR
Good to hear. I was late to chime in but have a now 14.5" pinned AAC flash hider which was cut from a Bear Creak arsenal 16" mid. Had a .075" gas port size. Ran a 4.8oz Tridentis buffer with no issues on federal 147-149 nato loads. I'm now going to ditch the 4.8oz and go with the heavier 6.5oz when I start going suppressed. I have played around with the standard rifle tube and buffer. I used tungsten weights to make it 7.8 oz and can keep going heavier of I like. It doesn't fix over gassing but delays the bolt speed to extract much easier and smoother. -
$120 shipped.
