? Nice shooting iron. It's cool that Mossberg is branching out into gangsta shotguns. I'm sure you know about Aguila minishells 98Z5V but if not they might be a good complement to that gun that is worth checking out. I ran some of their buckshot in my KSG over the summer and the two were like peanut butter and jelly. https://www.aguilaammo.com/shotshell/

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
EugeneStoner replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
? My favorite gun shop stocks those Heritage revolvers and I'm thinking about getting one as it would be perfect for running Aguila's primer-only Super Calibri .22lr ammo (https://www.aguilaammo.com/rimfire/). This subsonic ammo does not necessarily cycle in a semi-auto very well so a SA revolver like this would be just the ticket for the range, introducing my niece to basic firearm/handgun skills and closer range squirrel hunting. I would definitely get a leather OWB holster and cowboy hat to go with that fine shooting iron. -
The quality of my Otis kit seemed good to me but I'm glad to hear an actual expert's endorsement, thanks for the response 98Z5V. I have the version of the .308 kit that includes the new(er) BONE tool and am also impressed by the ingenuity of its design. They have packed all the tools needed for deep cleaning and a tube of CLP into a very compact little case. https://otistec.com/msr-ar-cleaning-kit-308-7-62mm/

I think these will be pretty cool and I have kind of gotten used to giving Armalite my money (i.e. Strategic Arms Corps, https://www.sacfirearms.com/). Amazon has the 5.56 version and its page has better pics and details than Armalite's: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E5CQVW?pf_rd_p=c2463b52-1139-4aba-9ac9-26d103f6c586&pf_rd_r=0KWHHSJMF808JHKDSAHZ Once of my rifles has a fancy Magpul MOE+ grip (hollow w/a locking cap) so I can definitely stow everything in that one without the Otis grip insert. The other has a more basic grip w/out a cap. If the inserts don't work out of the box I'm pretty sure I can improvise some kind of solution to keep everything in the grip. I see you're in AZ, did you know Armalite is moving/has moved to Phoenix from Genesco, IL? Don't know if their space(s) in AZ are open to the public but if they are I would definitely visit (and geek out) if they are.

Armalite has these Otis Pistol Grip Cleaning Kits for AR-10s on clearance and I have not been able to find a better deal on them anywhere else. I imagine they could be used with other .308/7.62 battle rifles that have hollow grips but do not know for sure yet. I will post a follow up once I receive my order if anyone is interested in details on these. I cannot vouch for this particular product as I just ordered a couple today but do have and really love the Otis MSR/AR Cleaning Kit for .308/7.62MM. It is very compact and portable but not necessarily something I would carry with me in the field while hunting as it contains everything needed for deep cleaning. I think these pistol grip cleaning kits may be nice for those occasions when you only need the bare essentials such as when you drop your rifle muzzle-first and clog your barrel with mud (first deer season at age 12 with my brand new Savage Model 99 .243 has stuck with me). I do also have a Hoppe's bore snake which is good and could also be easily stored in a grip but want to give these a try too. https://www.armalite.com/product/fg-225-76-ar10-762-308-win-otis-pistol-grip-cleaning-kit/

We live within city limits too and have large oaks that attract a variety of smaller, non-dangerous varmints that occasionally need to be dealt with as they agitate pets, get in the trash, etc. Firearm usage is not an option in town so I use Harbor Freight's inexpensive but decent quality small live trap to catch and relocate them. I could only find this medium sized one on Harbor Freight's website but I'm pretty sure I've seen a larger version in our local store previously if medium isn't big enough for this animal. If you decide to go with something like this be sure to put a tarp or some other protection down in your vehicle for the trap with the animal inside to ride on during transport. https://www.harborfreight.com/32-in-x-15-in-x-10-in-medium-animal-trap-61682.html. This thread piqued my curiosity about how to bait one of these cats and I found this article titled "Homemade Bobcat Bait". It's a pretty interesting read whether or not you decide to go the live-trap/relocation route. https://sciencing.com/homemade-bobcat-bait-12002589.html It also occurred to me that there could be some significant danger when releasing the bobcat from the trap at its new location. I do not know whether they can necessarily be expected to flee once the trap is opened...could be that they will typically attack and this could be potentially be a major flaw in the live trap/relocate strategy of dealing with bobcats.

That's true mcmackc! That's a good looking dog that is obviously fearless.

Thank you for the welcomes 98Z5V and sketch! ? And yeah Pancho doesn't like wearing his Halloween costume much but at least tolerates this one. The first was a taco costume that had to be returned to the store as he wasn't having any part of it, LOL.

Thanks Robocop1051! I appreciate all the feedback and can now buy with confidence, just have to wait for the $ to hit the bank.

Thanks Bob! I'm from a state that's a little north of you (Wisconsin) but have have always been interested in TX and its history. I even have a Chihuahua named Pancho Villa.

Thank you sir, I appreciate it! ?

Thanks edgecrusher ?. It sounds like these type of gun cleaners may not necessarily entirely replace traditional/regular tools and techniques but can still be a solid complement that is worth the investment..

No plastic pistols in the inventory!?...the heck!? Just kidding, pretty sure my Glock pistols' slides will be fine with one of these cleaners too but will do a bit more research on this. Thanks again for the response, sounds like I'm on the right track, at least so far, when it comes to buying one of these fancy ultrasonic gun cleaners.

Thanks JT, your response is really helpful ?. So you can safely drop field-stripped/assembled pistol slides(e.g. Glock) into one of these ultrasonic cleaners?

Annual bonus/"money burning hole in pocket" time is coming up soon and I'm trying to come up with a plan to spend it wisely. I used to only go to the range with my rifles on an annual basis to get ready for an upcoming deer season so cleaning them after this and a second time when the season was over wasn't a big deal. Trading off my old school sporting rifles for battle rifles (thanks in part to 308ar.com) has resulted in me becoming a bit of a range lizard though and I have started visiting pretty frequently just for the enjoyment of shooting. This has of course necessitated the need for more cleaning and I'm wondering if an ultrasonic cleaner would be a good investment. I have done my due diligence and searched the forum for posts that might already answer my questions but have not found anything that is necessarily exactly in line with them or more recent. So, here goes: 1. Should I buy an ultrasonic cleaner at all or just stick with more traditional/regular tools such as my (really cool) Otis MSR/AR cleaning kit for.308/7.62MM? Beside their greater initial cost are there any reasons to avoid ultrasonic cleaners altogether such as potential damage to finishes, etc.? 2. I think a larger ultrasonic cleaner that can fit an entire upper might be a good choice. I'm seriously considering Hornady's Lock-N-Load Hot Tub. Can anyone provide advice on this product (including vouching for it) or recommend a better alternative? Its Amazon URL is below and it has several good reviews. https://smile.amazon.com/Hornady-043310-Lock-N-Load-Sonic-Cleaners/dp/B00AU6CK20/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1540416664&sr=8-2&keywords=hornady+ultrasonic+cleaners

It's probably better to just stay in Arizona until next June when spring starts in Wisconsin.
-
Thanks Shepp! ? I'm from Central WI and will be back there for deer season and Thanksgiving with family and friends next month. It's always a good time but it would be nice if Wisconsin winters were more like those in Arizona.

Thanks and "Battle Rifles" Robert! ? Its Wikipedia entry is pretty precise and also includes the cool term "full-powered rifle cartridge": "'Battle rifle' is a post-World War II term for military service rifles that are fed ammunition via detachable magazines and fire a full-powered rifle cartridge.[1] The term "battle rifle" was created largely out of a need to better differentiate the intermediate-power assault rifles (e.g. StG-44, AK-47 and M16) from full-powered automatic rifles (e.g. FN FAL, M14 and H&K G3) as both classes of firearms have a similar appearance and share many of the same features such as detachable magazines, pistol grips, etc.[2] This term may also describe older military full-powered semi-automatic rifles such as the M1 Garand, Gewehr 43, MAS-49, and the SVT-40.[3][4] Before the 1990s, the term was not well defined and was used as a general description for all types of military rifles." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_rifle
