  1. Very cool...will take me a bit longer to cycle rounds in a bolt gun than w/a semi-auto too which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  2. Very cool rifle, nice hybrid of old and new(er) school I think. You've convinced me I may need more than one MVP Scout and/or one of the other .308 MVPs (the LR looks pretty cool). It also helps that though they are inexpensive as is/at market price we have a new gun shop in town whose owner is being very competitive and making great deals. Stopped in yesterday after work to get a price quote only and...my initial post tells the rest of the story.
  3. Glad to hear you vouch for it, now I just have to wait for the gun shop to call.
  4. Mossberg MVP Scout, it's a .308 Win bolt rifle that's external mag fed and compatible with my AR10s' SR25/M110/AR10 mags (and of less interest to me, M1A mags). I'm going for the iron-sights only model instead of the combo with the Vortex Scout scope as I'm not sure I would like the forward-mounted optic that is traditionally used on this type of rifle. Can add a scope, including a Scout or more traditional/non-Scout type option later if I like. I am partial to open sights though and don't have any .308s with irons only so it may just remain stock. https://www.mossberg.com/category/series/mvp-series/mvp-scout/ https://www.mossberg.com/product/mvp-scout-rifle-27778/
  5. Thanks for the post and please share more updates if you can. I'm on Cabela's/Bass Pro's mailing list and have been kind of curious about the new(er) Cabela's brand optics they've been advertising.
  6. I've been buying a few blades recently and finally got a Glock 81. This particular model has a saw-edged spine instead of a smooth one. Though these are inexpensive (I paid about $30) they have a ton of good reviews online and mine seems to be really solid. The blade came sharp and coated with plenty of lubricant. The sheath is good quality too and the knife snaps securely into it. The blade and overall length of the knife is a little longer than what I think is needed for field dressing Whitetails though. So, I probably won't carry it as my go-to hunting knife but will keep it in my rifle bag as a backup if I lose my (much smaller) primary hunting blade. I made it a little more emergency/zombie apocalypse-ready by adding some ball chain for optional neck carry and also getting a magnesium fire starter for it.
  7. Thanks JT. I kind of like it skeletonized as it is though as I intend to wear it concealed and scales may thicken it a bit. I'm pretty sure it won't print under at least most of my every-day shirts if I wear it with a thin ball chain or paracord.
  8. My new ESEE Pinch "neck knife" came today, I really love it. https://www.eseeknives.com/product/esee-pinch
  9. You missed out on some great pizza...if you ever get back that way you should maybe try stop in.
  10. You never stopped at the Hayloft?(!)
  11. Yeah, that's a pretty good comparison kind of is but the flavor is a bit different I think. Probably shouldn't admit it but I'm a big Spam fan and it may partly be why I like this stuff.
  12. Yeah, it is probably not too much different from summer sausage processing-wise but they did some kind of sugar cure that is kind of mapley (might have used maple syrup, it's in pretty abundant supply locally) and this makes it taste more like bacon I think.
  13. Dad decided to try something new with part of the Whitetail buck he bagged during rifle season and had the meat processor make him something they call venison bacon. They finished up his order recently and he mailed me some. It is cured and smoked like regular bacon and I have fried it in a pan and also cooked it per his recommendation which is to microwave it for 2:30 minutes. It is very good but we have discovered that it does not seem to get crispy like regular bacon no matter how you cook it. I may try some in the oven next and see how it goes.
  14. Nice rifle Frankenstein, congrats and welcome.

It always pays off to be part Viking.
  16. I'm often told that my main hunting/all-time favorite/jewel of my collection rifle is "too heavy" and a "big girl" (it's an AR-10 w/a fancy scope). I point out that when properly adjusted my single-point Magpul sling does alot of the lifting for me such that I'm able to not only swing it to my shoulder quickly but also carry it all day every day through a fulI deer season w/out any problems. This hunting entails walking several miles through the sticks and swamps every day. I also suggest that if a rifle seems to be too heavy:
  17. Very nice, we did alot of family vacations with a camper when I was growing up and I always enjoyed them. My parents eventually worked their up to an Airstream and it was especially awesome.
  18. Stole the pics from the thread below...they have a few other dandies in addition to these. The guy muzzling his leg to take the pic cracks me up. TBH I kind of like Hi-Point carbines and their price but have about a million higher priority items to buy first. https://www.northwestfirearms.com/threads/show-your-hi-points-uglier-the-better.266129/
  19. The IWI Tavor-7 (7.62x51/.308 Win) rifle announcement last year really caught my interest then its release was delayed to improve its accuracy. Your comment caused me to see if there are any further updates or whether the Tavor-7 project is even still alive and it is!
  20. Very cool JT .
