Thanks to all for the compliments, and for all the info on this forum. These things are addictive, 2 more in progress, an 18" and 24" in 6.5 Creedmoor. Somebody needs to design a 30-06 length platform and call it an AR1! 😜 (Yes, I miss my Garand)!

Will check that out, thanks!

Ok. To all the questions. I used the 80% Arms Gen 1 jig. Problem: the 1/4" end mill is long enough, and you have to reach deep enough, that chattering is a problem, yielding wavy sided FCG pocket. Will purchase the Gen 2 multi jig for all future builds, (5/16" end mill). The 80% Arms Gen 1 lower is awesome otherwise. Range report: Functioned flawlessly with M118LR. Not so with my handloads. First batch (hot) would fail to chamber after 3-4 rounds. Second batch functioned flawlessly (considerably less hot). DPMS Gen 1 target rifle was GTG, until scope mount came loose. Now consuming copious quantities of homebrewed Belgian tripel, and considering forward leaning pathways.

My first (mostly) finished build. 18" BA barrel, UTG super slim handguard, Aero M5 upper with their nitrided BCG, 80% Arms lower with Aero kit, Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock, and a Vortex Crossfire LER scope. All Aero on gas and recoil system. Still waiting on a sling and compensator. Headed for the desert today for a test drive and sight in, range report later today!

Ressurecting the dead again. Harbor Freight. They have a copy of the foredom hanging model, and several different handpieces to choose from. I mostly use a chuck model that goes up to 3/16 diameter. If I need bigger, I have my aircrafty air tools.

It just fits in the upper now (Aero M5), couldn't make it too much bigger. The twins. Road test weekend!

Just received in the mail today, and wow! this is a tool! 1.185 diameter and 10" long, with socket in the nether regions for a 1/2" breaker bar, you won't flex this! At $55, everybody should have one!

About 25 for me. Last week, I was expecting 200 rounds of M118 LR from Graf's, and a Vortex scope from Midway. Both packages arrived in Tucson at oh-dark-thirty on Thursday morning, supposed to be delivered by 9PM Thursday, NOT! Not delivered Friday, either, but delivery not resheduled. Went online with stupider than a rock chat robot, said if it was already late, would not be rescheduled, instead delivery would be "pending". Also said weekend deliveries to business addresses only, home delivery only Monday thru Friday. It did eventually show up late Monday night.

Maybe where you live, I'm out in the sticks. Not holding my breath.

Going thru all the shipping company lies. According to UPS, I'll get my handguard and scope today, but they said that yesterday too. According to FedEx, the Brownells torque rod is scheduled to be delivered Saturday, but since they don't do home deliveries on the weekend, it'll be Monday. I really hate waiting for parts. Almost as bad as "out of stock".

Well, my doctor says I'm fat, but I'm a fat badass!
-
I used one of the 80% Arms Gen 1 lowers. Fits great.
-
I was browsing at Brownells and found that rod, ordered it, but haven't received it yet. Any idea how it compares to the gazelle reaction rod?

I just finished an 80% Arms lower and used the Aero M5. Everything went together well. Used Aero's BCG, buffer kit, 18" fluted .308 barrel in bead blasted stainless, Aero's lower parts kit, and a Magpul PRS GEN3 adjustable stock. Pulling my hair out trying to find a suitable handguard (preferably 12", M-lok) that is actually in stock somewhere.
-
Ha! Just finished my first lower, and everything is working as advertised. Have everything for the upper except the scope and handguard (and headspace gauges) but that should all be here in the next few days. meanwhile, I guess I could load more ammo......

I'm still trying to figure out which is the "unmarred generation"! P.S. I flunked sociology. Let God sort 'em out.
-
yur just jealous!
-
Well, not to brag or anything, but you don't want to see that eye on the wrong end of a scope!
-
Well, I got the no go gauge ordered, the go gauge was not in stock, will get notification. Also ordered a tool similar to a "reaction rod" for torquing the barrel nut, about half the price of similar tools. The job in Phoenix is done, celebrating in the hotel with some homebrewed Belgian tripels. Back to Tucson sometime tomorrow, and I can start milling a lower receiver for a shorty .308.

Not a real good pic. That scar goes from ear to ear, and I do have a few metallic additions holding everything together! Life is hell, but we all get thru it one way or another.

Last time I had major surgery, it was for a brain tumor (Google bilateral craniotomy). I was in the hospital for 9 days, and they charged me $9.50 per day. Not in any way service related. I am a Viet era vet, and have full VA benefits. Basically, they cut and folded my face down, and removed my forehead bone, and removed a tumor the size of a handball, right between and behind my eyes. I'm still pretty damn handsome!
