  1. @BrianKNot really planning on shooting in the backyard - although deer are common and frankly a nuisance eating both vegetables and the wife's flowers and plants. More of a whimsical thought. Can't imagine one actually dropping where it was shot, and we have been overrun with PETA immigrants fleeing California - probably call the cops and the local news on me in horror😬. That's why I go to SC and VA to hunt. I do however appreciate your concern!
  2. Best upgrade I made to my WW R16SFST-308.
  3. Toys for upcoming kayaking fishing trip on the Staunton River in VA. Hopefully get the local trifecta- a striper, a small mouth bass & a walleye. But it should be a good time regardless!
  4. Starting the "soft sale" on the better half. Helps (the sale - not the bank account) that we're in the process of dropping $8K for a fence for "her" dogs - if the fence guy ever follows through on the installation. Probably be an after the 4th Holiday purchase. One of those things where you go in to look at one thing - Wicked Ridge Invader 400 ($600) - and go "this is pretty nice", then you pick up something else - Ravin r10 ($1300) -and go "but this thing is for me - this is the poop". Anyway, time to go fleece a couple of extra sheep over the next few weeks!
  5. Made the mistake of talking a while with Dude from Sportsman's Warehouse & handling a Ravin R10 crossbow. Pretty f-in nice package. I'm starting to feel an itch ....
  6. of course now that I start looking, I see (on paper) there are pretty competent hunting crossbows out there in the $400 range - with the price of red meat today - I think I can justify that - 2 deer would pretty much be a break even. And if I can catch one inside the dog fence so he is unlikely to run out into the HOA, might could get one on the down low without even traveling to my hunting digs .....
  7. Which Excalibur do you have? 87 y.o father-in-law has a crank-cock Ravin with a scope that is a friggin' tack driver. Think the old-fart got 3-5 with it last year. You get almost an extra month of deer season with a bow in South Carolina. Had to retire my old Browning Explorer II compound a few seasons ago. Beautiful bow, but it had become unsafe and could not get replacement parts. Still would have to harvest a lot of meat to justify the expense of a good cross bow ... but life is short and toys bring joy!
  8. Have a 75th Anniversary Hi-Power in excellent shape w/ 4 mags gathering dust in the safe I've been thinking of selling. Great shooter...just never do.
  9. Think that's called a pick-up truck. I'll drive; We'll set you up in back 😁
  10. I've always admired the engineering of the POF rifles. But have heard mixed reviews since their founder passed. What has your shooting experience been like with the Rogue?
  11. Windham R16SFST w/ Leupold 3-9x50. DD Stock. Precision Armament M472 brake. 10 rnd, empty Pmag.
  12. Agreed on primers being the most scarce ammo item. Unobtainable in WNC.
  13. Have found some decent factory ammo prices at budsgunshop.com lately. Some of their offerings qualify for free shipping if you order at least $199. Among these are Fed Powershok 150g, which does fine in my gun, and is fine for deer hunting at $23.45/box ($1.17 per round). Also, if you've ordered from them within the last 30 days, they give you a coupon code for $5. There are also some quality (IMO) target and match rounds that qualify for free shipping. Options are good - and these guys are whipping my local guys in choices and and price at the moment.
  14. Nothing against PSA, we Carolina boys support one another (except during football season -but I digress). Just thought you might want to consider this group from WW which is similarly priced (w/o charging handle). What I like about the WW is the bolt is carpenter steel with dual ejectors. And, their customer service is world class. If you have any questions, they will answer your email in less than a day, (and usually within an hour or two. https://shop.windhamweaponry.com/product/8448501-308de/
  15. Think I'm just going to have to put reloading on the back burner. Powders and primers are simply unavailable locally. And, by my limited math skills, it looks like a # of powder is only good for about 150-175 rounds anyway. So, I'm just stocking up on the factory ammos, which I've tested and work well for me, and which I can get hold of. I will keep an eye out for powders and primers, but I'm done searching for them - for now. Flippin' hunting for unicorns in this economy. FJB
  16. Their website says 19.2 oz. for the carbine MBA-3
  17. I know I'm a bit off topic and apologize in advance. I've been thinking about getting into reloading and have a friend who has a fair amount of experience and is willing to show me the ropes. Problem is, said friend is poor and lacking supplies. Namely powder and primers. I don't mind purchasing supplies. But don't really know what I'm looking for. We'd be working up 308 loads. I briefly looked at Midway, which is my go to for lotsa stuff, but they seem to be out of all powder and CCI primers (the stuff mentioned in this thread). If someone could give me a shortlist of appropriate powders, primers and reputable sources, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  18. Welcome from WNC
  19. This southern boy does not understand ya'lls penchant for freezing your weapons. Think I'll just throw another log on the fire and wait a day or two. 20 today, 70 on Monday. Great thing about the weather here, it'll change soon.
  20. Neat little flashlight holder from Fenix. Mounts onto a picatinny. Squeeze latch to mount or remove without any tools. Son-in-law whose is in LE got me onto the Fenix USB-C rechargeable flashlights. The mount is about a $15-20 accessory as I recall. Lots of coupon codes floating around for the company.
  21. This sight makes me spend $ like no other. Just popped for some various MLOK/Picatinny pieces so I can mount the flashlight. $20 here, $200 there, next thing you know you've got a $2000 project and need to go to the range (in the dark!)
  22. Just realized I never did receive the A-Z oil I ordered over a month ago from the above link. On the plus side, don't think I was charged for it either.
  23. Yes. Primary purpose is for hunting deer and I'd like to try hogs. Secondarily, to keep Zombies in check. Mainly hunt in SC and VA. Some pigs reported in SC area, but I've never seen them while hunting. VA is land where I grew up and I'm pretty comfortable walking around there in pitch black. I did get an adapter for a small 1600 lumen Fenix light I have https://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-alg-00-flashlight-ring/ but I've never messed with the adapter. Mainly use the light to find dog poop in the leaves in the dark and small springs and pins that I always drop. I think the adapter is basically for a picatinny rail and I think I'd want to mount it beneath the barrel. Not sure what would be a good light option for an AR w/ an MLOK hand-guard.
  24. Time to start the pepper and tomato seeds here for planting in about 8 weeks. Turnips, peas, spinach and mesclun mix already planted out back.
