    My POF build

One step closer, got my .308 buffer and buffer spring. All I'm missing now id the VLTOR stock kit. <thumbsup>
  2. Interesting reads. I've recently been at opposite ends of this topic with my chief instructor since I told him about my new 16.5" .308 AR. He had a blanket claim originally that a carbine-length .308 was too short, but was surprised by the claimed velocities. Thanks for the links guys!
  3. PS - feel free to jump in the tactics and training forum, I imagine you could have some input there.
  4. Welcome aboard!! Now that sounds like a fun job!! <thumbsup>
  5. Set your VCR, DVR, whatever -- this looks to be a cool show!!! http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/sons-of-guns/ Premieres tonight, 8pm CDST.
  6. Isn't the heavier bullet recommended for high twist rate, carbine-length barrels?
  7. So, this was interesting. After I assembled the parts on my POF lower last night, I was mating it to the POF upper. I put the lower in place and the pivot pin would not enter the lug on the upper. It was aligned just right, it just wouldn't go in. So I spun the lower around and pushed the pivot pin in from the reverse side, and it went in, but stopped just shy of exiting the right side. I started thinking there was a burr or something, but couldn't find anything, and the calipers showed the right size. Since I'm in the pipeline industry and we live by the code "Hammer to fit and paint to match!", I put some CLP on the pivot pin and in the lug hole, pushed the pin in reversed again, and tapped it through with a small rubber hammer. It went, reluctantly, so I tapped it back out, then repeated the process and it got progressively easier, until I was able to do it by hand. I put the lower on properly and am able to push the pivot pin in and out with a fingertip now. It took a little finish off the pivot pin, I guess the hole was just a FRCH too tight..?? <dontknow>
  8. FYI, for potential buyers, I recently purchased something from JGun and it was completely as he had said it was, and the transaction was very good. This is a seller you can trust! <thumbsup>

Just missing the stock kit now.
  10. Got it. I'm an idiot. <thumbsup>
  11. Oh!!! The detent and pin go in under the grip!! I thought only the selector detent went in from the underside. Thanks Tac!!
  12. So, try to cram the detent in the hole first, then slide the take-down pin in over it? Man, these small parts are hell unless you have hands the size of my wife's!
  13. I got it all worked out, it was as JGun had said, and as I had assumed the rest. Now, how in God's name do you get the detent in the hole for the take-down pin?? <dontknow>
  14. So, I've got my POF lower and the springs and detent pins for the selector switch and the takedown pin. There is a long spring and a short spring, and a smooth-sided detent and one with a point on one end and a groove in it. JGun told me the that the detent with the groove is for the selector, and that the pin goes point towards the switch and grooved end towards the spring. So, here is my dilemma: I thought the long spring went with the selector detent, but the circumference of the short spring more closely matches the point detent. I think I have my answer, but if I put the smooth detent with the short pin it would just sit inside of it - lol <dontknow>
  15. Man! That looks nice.

  17. Welcome aboard! Maybe you glanced over it, but here is the Bushmaster forum. Btw, we are enthusiasts of all weaponry here. <thumbsup>
  18. This happened at the apartments right next door to my self defense school, it is a real hell hole. That business owner they interviewed is my chief instructor. :D Things like this happen weekly at those apartments, every night I go there I carry heavy. It's like little afghanistan over there. http://www.click2houston.com/video/26566626/index.html

  24. It's actually in Brookshire, so it's a lot closer to Houston than San Antonio. http://www.theimpactzonerange.com/ I've not been there, but I've been meaning to for years. You know how that goes.
  25. Very nice!
