I'm not giving up on them yet. Not as well as they work, with a 28 NRR. Albro, I have the owner's email - do you want me to reach out, and say something about this?
-
Wow. I'm shocked, Albro, seriously. I have 3 sets now, and haven't had a set fail, but I lost one of the medium covers/tips, and they just sent me one in the mail.

Spark, here's a really good writeup on what I was talking about. This explains it in great detail. https://www.sprinco.com/SPRINCO-DOCS/Gas Mass and Springs AR Tuning.pdf

Bump - had to make an edit, for the wrong link I posted for the VLTOR part above...

Here's a blem VLTOR A5 receiver extension. You'll never find the blem. These are my go-to carbine extensions for large frame builds when I can't find the Armalite parts. (I EDITED THIS, put the wrong link in here the first time...) https://www.vltor.com/shop/ar/receiver-extensions/vn-re-a5-a5-receiver-extension/ Here's the recoil spring - either option will give you identical results. If you can find the Armalite spring, it's the EA-1095 spring. I can't find one right now. The other alternative is the Sprinco Red spring. This one: https://www.primaryarms.com/sprinco-m4-ar15-carbine-red-extra-power-carbine-buffer-spring ^^^ Don't worry about the description that Primary Arms listed there. That's the one you need. Any old AR15 H3 Carbine buffer. Literally. As long as it's an H3, you're good. This one will work: https://www.primaryarms.com/expo-arms-h3-ar15-carbine-buffer-od-green Those parts will get you up and running. The only thing that might change is the buffer, depending on how much of a Beastly Thumper this thing is. At that point, if it happens, I'll point you towards an even heavier buffer from HeavyBuffers.com. Here's what Sprinco says about their Red spring: RED SPRING Extra Power Buffer Spring. This was our first AR buffer spring solution that we were tasked to design back in 2006 for a Force Modernization Team to specifically address spring-related M4 carbine reliability function issues for operating challenges in the Eastern Asia Theatre. The design loads of the Red spring are approximately 25% greater than the White spring for one of the considered Load Constants in the spring design. Refer to provided tuning procedure reference documents prior to calling for recommendations for use. The Red spring is commonly used in 9mm, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, .450 BM, .450 SOCOM, .500 Beowulf, and Colt LE6920’s specimen carbines, but certain specimen guns can deviate from the norm depending upon port values and the power factor of your chosen ammunition loads. Color Coded RED. NOTES: The RED spring is appropriate for moderately gassed .308 / 6.5 CM / .260 Rem heavier caliber carbine platforms using AR-10 / SR-25 Pattern (Armalite, LMT, LaRue, KA.C, etc. receiver extensions and 3.25” carbine buffers. NOT for use in “DPMS Pattern”.308 Carbines using standard 7" deep M4 extension tubes and short, 2.5” buffers. (Use our "ORANGE” Spring" for that specific platform approach application.)

This is everything under one part number, but I can't find it anywhere in stock. https://www.eurooptic.com/Armalite-AR-10-6-POS-Receiver-EXT-Kit.aspx No worries, we can piece it together. I'll link the appropriate parts to hunt down.
-
Nope, that's a rifle receiver extension. You running a rifle stock, or carbine stock. I figured carbine, collapsible stock, since you're going the SBR route.
-
Go Big... Start off with the Armalite AR-10 Carbine Receiver Extension Kit. I'm just guessing, but I'd expect that you might need something heavier than the H3 buffer, but at least that will get you running, in the right direction. Maybe a HeavyBuffers buffer, in the long run. The Aero kit you mentioned is gonnd come with a receiver extension that 7.000" internal depth, it's only gonna work with shorty 2.500" length buffers, and the buffer you receive from Aero in that kit will weigh 3.8oz. I wouldn't even use it, man. The Armalite kit I mentioned will have a receiver extension that's 7 5/8" internal depth, run standard length carbine buffers at 3.250" long, it comes with the EA-1095 recoil spring, and the buffer is already an H3 at 5.4oz. If you can't find the Armalite kit, we can piece it together from known good quality parts, and achieve the same goal.

Spark, have you considered an 18" barrel? Just asking, because there are some great ones out there. That CLE barrel would be badass, but what's that thing gonna cost you? Ballistic Advantage has some great barrels available, and I'd also look at Wilson Combat. On the WC barrel, you'd probably have to drill the gas port out. Every WC barrel I have shoots the lights out, crazy accurate, after I've fixed the gas ports. The ones I've got are .260 Rem (two of them), .338 Federal, .358 Winchester, and 7mm-08.

^^^ This is all good news! I like it! That's great info to work with. You've already done alot to the gun for the accuracy - faced the receiver, various brands of ammo, handloads, etc. So, if that barrel just won't shoot like you want it to, maybe the decision to move on to another brand of barrel isn't a bad decision. Reciprocating mass... 5.4oz buffers and the appropriate .308 springs (heavier than AR15 springs) are the way to go to making a happy large frame gas gun that doesn't beat up it's own parts. If it's not a Race Gun running a custom handload that you're winning money and trophy hardware with... Making it function properly is the way to go for the longevity and reliability of the gun. Your barrel and trigger are the heart of your potential accuracy. Balancing the gas system and recoil system, using good parts - that's the heart of your reliability.

Gawd DAYUM, man!!! I just cooked today, for the week, and it's just a chuck roast. I really wanna cook what YOU just did - tomorrow! FML... I love you, bro, but you suck...

I love this stuff!!! Excellent vid, man!!!

Some of the ammo lines are running now. 9mm, 5.56 and 300 Win Mag. Some limited Grendel runs being made.

It's not widely known yet, and I've briefly mentioned it a few times here before, but NEMO Arms recently built a 250k square foot facility that is solely dedicated to ammunition manufacturing, period. That's all that massive facility does. Because, 'Merica! I'm sure this will be talked about now, more, with all this shiit going down. They make their own cases, primers, all of it. Soup to nuts, they do it all, in house. I've been inside on all this for a long time, and know one of the co-owners very well - from another avenue, and another business. I had the second box of 9mm 124gr ammo ever produced and shipped to AZ. Their capability is astounding, for mass production. They might end up being the savior for American ammo manufacturing. They're already, and have been for a long time, since inception, ass-deep in the 22 ARC development. Just wait... with all the bad news, there might be something around the corner that turns all this shiit around... We just needs to hang on...

Okay, Spark, that answers the accuracy part of my question - but there's more to that question than just accuracy. How far do you shoot, or want to shoot? Is this just for hunting, or just for smacking steel, or just for punching paper? What's the maximum range that you'll shoot it to? Is this something that you'll hike into the mountains for days, just to try to get a shot on an animal? Is it for home defense? What weather conditions are you gonna shoot this thing in? Year 'round? What's that weather like, where you live, year 'round - so we know those conditions? Now, more than that - what is YOUR shooting skill? Not insulting, just asking... Can you, or do you, have other guns that shoot 0.5 MOA? Are YOU capable of it? Shooting fundamentals sound? Never miss, never shoot over 0.5 MOA with a certain gun and load? There's alot that has to be accounted for, to even get a gas gun to 0.5 MOA or 0.75 MOA. Consistently. ALOT to account for. Alot more than just a barrel change. I have Faxon barrels that shoot under 1 MOA - those barrels don't suck, by far. There are other barrels I'd buy first, on my own list of barrels, but when I can't find the certain caliber, length, gas system, or profile - and Faxon makes it? I'll never hesitate to buy that Faxon barrel. The ones I've bought have never let me down. I have a match grade Faxon that's 12.5" long, carbine gas, 6.5 Grendel, and I can shoot that thing to 850 yards repeatedly, by dialing 10.6 mils of drop into the scope, shooting my own handloads. I have a 12.5" carbine gas, 6 ARC barrel, that's even better than that Grendel. An 18" midlength gas 6.5 Grendel barrel that's a lighter profile than a MK12 profile, and that one is stellar. What I'm sayin' is this - what exactly is it that you want that particular gun to do for you - all conditions listed above - and why isn't it doing it now? Have you lapped the face of the upper receiver? It makes a difference, when you wanna to to something that's around 1 MOA, to under 1 MOA. What brand is the upper receiver? What ammo are you shooting? <<< THAT is a BIG one! The trigger?... It's just info - the more info that we request, and you give out, helps the recommendations that you'll get.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH DAYUM!!! I've never seen that one, but I LOVE me some Fat Electrician!!! "Because, fucking SCIENCE!..." Told you guys a long time ago, Long Distance is just a math problem that you have to solve...

Or, Cerakote. This is an easy problem to solve, @Turd Furgeson. At this point, you're just making excuses, brother... Buy the fucking thing already, make it real, instead of continually pissing her off...............

Vista Outdoors just sold all their ammunition manufacturing capabilities to a Czeck company. That's why you're seeing that article. Here's a rundown on the news on that... https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/vista-outdoor-sell-sporting-products-unit-191-bln-deal-cuts-sales-forecast-2023-10-16/ Vista owns a GIANT chunk of companies that make ammunition - here's the rundown. In a massive deal Vista Outdoor, the parent company to over 40 well known brands, is to sell off its sporting products business in a $1.91 billion deal with Czechoslovak Group. Czechoslovak Group is a major Czech Republic-based holding company which already controls brands across the arms, aerospace and manufacturing industries – including Fiocchi, Tatra, and Atrak. The deal will see Czechoslovak Group take over well known ammunition brands including CCI, Federal, HEVI-Shot, Remington (ammunition) and Speer, which combined employ around 4,000 people in factories in the US. The company will continue to be headquartered in Anoka, Minnesota. The deal is expected to be finalised in 2024. Here's where that quote came from: https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2023/10/18/czechoslovak-group-acquire-vista-outdoor-ammunition-business-2-billion-deal/ It's a sad deal for Americans. When a Czech company owns almost all our ammo manufacturing capability.

What is it, that you want this gun to do for you?
-
What is the exact goal of the rifle, that you're trying to go for here? That's the big question, and will guide alot of the answers that you receive.

Calling @308USK... Hey brother, check this one out - James Reeves is willing to loan this out to somebody with real sound-measuring equipment. I'm just sayin'... This is pretty interesting, at the very least. Check the vid:

You are definitely remembered, man - keep sticking around. That was a damn good writeup! Didn't get the critter, but you came away better, too. That's the important stuff - don't waste an opportunity to learn something, every single time you go out. If you come away, and didn't learn anything - then you wasted your time. Truth in that.
