here is my last airplane I owned outright, 172M I sold it in 1984 when my company had me bonded and as a condition of employment I had to give up flying as a private pilot and non company owned aircraft. I looked her up last month and she is still flying in Mass. with a new paint job and no wheel pants. I think it still has the King Air radios I installed in 1980

Man, that seems to be a crappy condition of employment!

Mine was a '73 C172M.  Had it on leaseback with a flying school and was making enough to pay for my training and, when that was done, for flying and maintanence.  Then the flight school was sold to a trial lawyer and the cashflow stopped.  Then two of his instructors  taxied the wing into a pole while looking at other aircraft, he refused to make an insurance claim but did pay for repairs.  Sold it shortly thereafter to a broker.

I see now that C172M was sold to Mexico, and now N20308 is registered to a flippin' hot air balloon.

Yes about crappy condition but the promotion and the big raise spoke really loud requirements were from the bonding company. That is what happens when a company starts doing the Feds mandates by self compliance audits.

The picture is bad because I had to scan a copy from an old paper one in a Word Perfect document, the original was one that my 12 year old daughter took with her Kodak 110 Instamatic camera, remember them things?.

She called the Cessna "Dad's pumpkin"

My first solo, St. Patrick's Day 1999.

Should I do ownership again, the Peterson King Katmai is calling to me...although I'd like to see one with the newer Continental 300hp TDI.

Proud as punch, did you get your shirt tail cut off? My first solo was in a Cherokee 140.  If I was to do ownership it would be another Mooney. Last one was a Executive with four member club I did my instrument training in it. It was a great flying plane except it was fuel injected and was sometimes hard to start hot.

That is a good looking 172. I borrowed one like that one to take my check ride in at Chickasha OK.  .The morning I flew from home a norther came thru. The wind was from North at a steady 40mph cold dry air the old Cessna flew like a new one made it home just before dark and before it started snowing. I lost one magneto on downwind the Continental engine never even sputtered.

Nope, no shirt tail cutting.  My instructor's custom after a student's solo was to give them miniature pilot's wings.  Flew the Cherokee Warrior 160s for a bit. A little faster than the 172 but with a much higher take off and landing speed.  Was working in the C182RGs when 9/11 went down.

Yeah, that King Katmai is some cool beans!  Just a couple of hundred feet take off at gross, with zero wind.

Unfortunately I don't have any digital pictures of my last airplane (owned with a buddy), a 1963 Cessna 210C - the Centurion before they took off the wing struts.  Hydraulic gear and flaps with a system that always leaked but would true out at 200 mph at 10,000 feet on 8 gph.  Had to sell my share when I was transferred from Florida to Colorado.  Soloed on my 23rd birthday, November 13, 1970.  I do miss flying, but product liability insurance has driven the cost out of sight.

Wow! and  I thought $1.00 was bad, back when.

My dentist had a decked out Cessna 182,  hangered next to my 172.  He lost his med at 81 years old and tried to sell it to me Good airplane but too much money $32,000. Wish one would show up on my radar for twice that now.  That is 18 grand less than a decked out  2015 Tahoe. LOL

Yup.  Funny thing is that depreciation is so very fast on new aircraft that the good condition older ones (say late '70s and early '80s) are priced about the same as good condition newer ones from the 2000s, with all the EFI and glass cockpits.

My stepdad  and his partner Gordon who was a Boeing 747 jet engine mechanic after getting rid of the third 172 got a Cessna 177B Skyhawk and had over $30 k each into it.

Here are some sample pics of that plane.

They added a third partner and his $36 k and sold the 177b and bought a Cessna 182. That was a nice plane , I only flew in in twice before my stepdàds health went bad.
