Serbu50
I've built quite a few AR15's. I understand how the gas tube "locks" the barrel nut in place should it decide to loosen up. I understand the torque specs of the Ar10 platform. My question is as follows. On many rail systems their proprietary nut does not have any tangs, tits, tabs etc as an anti loosening design. Do you just have to torque to specs and hope it never loosens up ? What's the deal on these 308 guns? Thanks!
blue109
Do you have an example? Not sure if I've seen any barrel nuts where the gas tube didn't pass through it. But also, the gas tube isn't suppose to lock a barrel nut down. It may keep it from rotating if it gets loose as a bonus function, but proper torque is what keeps it on there. jtallen83
My newest Matrix AR-15 set from Chris does not have indexes for the gas tube, just a smooth round barrel nut with flats in the first 1/4 inch for a wrench, just torque and go. I'll try to get some pics posted soon.and what Blue says, the gas tube shouldn't be locking in anything.
survivalshop
Bolts don't come loose when Torqued down on a Engine , so if properly Torqued ,as said , the nut will stay where its set . I've never had one come loose , but have found a factory rifle with it loose from the factory.
Serbu50
Yeah I understand it doesn't lock it down but it sure as hell isn't going far with a tube in the way. As for bolts coming loose, you've never worked on race cars much, particularly dirt cars! ? Everything comes loose even properly torqued, locktite, etc. I appreciate the Info guys! I wish they would make the same version for the .308 because I'd like one on my current project.
jtallen83
Check with Chris, he has some on sale, different Cerakote options available, just search "rail" on his site for options; http://www.centralfloridafirearms.com/product/matrix-aerospace-15-key-mod-hand-guard/
