GRA
I've used Aeroshell 33. It's what's recommended but it's not absolute. Basically anything without a graphite content can be used.

Basically anything without a graphite content can be used. Exactly. I've disassembled M16's (not even M16A1's so we're talking early to mid-60's) and had no problem breaking the barrel nut free. AeroShell 33 works. But, so will most moly greases that don't contain graphite. Around 2001-2002, we had to convert all of our remaining M16's into M16A2's, and so I spent a LOT of time as a young small arms repairman disassembling original M16's for the conversion to A2 and stripping parts off them for demill-ing. The sad thing was, many of the M16's we converted were as early as 4-digit serial numbers, so it broke my heart to tear them apart and see the old parts demilled. Survivalshop- yeah, agreed. I've broke down 40+year old M16 barrel nuts without issue. Edited November 12, 2016 by SteveinUT
