OK guys, first post (other than intro) (second try). Brother in law has me a DPMS Oracle LR-308, new in the box. I pick it up in a couple of weeks. Looking to make it mine, first with a free float hand guard. The rifle has a 16" barrel. I want to put a 12" handguard on it and just wanted to be sure that would work. I think it will as long as I replace the gas block with a low-profile one. I know the rifle has the low profile upper. Can y'all verify the above for me? I like the Midwest Industries handguards. Can you suggest a different one if this one lacks in any areas? I appreciate the help.

Like said before those Midwest HG are nice I really like mine, I put a 15" on mine. They're good people and put out a great product, plus I like to support them cuz they're local

Midwest is a good product !

But shoot the gun before you change it !  Lots of reasons the most important one is to check for flaws and functions. Run it wet !!!!

I own an Oracle also. I still have the original glacier guard on mine. IMHO put money in the trigger first. For a 16" HBAR barrel mine is one damn accurate rifle. And do as Mike stated, run it wet. I broke mine in with Mobil1 10-30 full synthetic. Not one issue with it since. I love taking it to the range and all the AR15 guys heads all pop up when they hear, BOOM, BOOM BOOM, instead of pew, pew pew. :laffs:

I bought a new-in-box LR308T (same rifle as the Oracle, AFAIK, except the T has a free float handguard from the factory).

I broke it in with some Federal XM80 and lubed the BCG up with Mobil 1 15W-50 (dipped all parts in oil, gently slung off the "excess excess," and put it together). She runs like a champ. With Federal Gold Medal Match 168 grainers and a RRA 2-stage trigger, quarter-size 5-shot groups at 100 yards were easy.

I ended up with a Fulton Armory rifle-length (12" or 12.5", can't remember now...) FF tube (because I like the smooth look) and a Fulton Armory low profile gas block.

As stated above, run it first to check function. Break it in and decide what you want to do with it before you go changing things.

Thanks guys, nothing on order yet so I'll take your advice and oil it and shoot it first. Looking forward to more questions.

Big Ed290, belated welcome from Central Texas.  I also have a LR308 Oracle, bought new in the box back in December 2014.  You are on the right track.

Where are you located? We have several regional forumns.
