Sisco
A lot of questions to be answered. What Abrams model? Was the Halon Extinguishing system or modern day equivalent, working? Rear of turret is one of the most vulnerable spots. I will defer to Blue, and our other armor vets. But time catches up with any model. I don't know if the newer upgrades include an active defense system. I know they are looking at a bunch of upgrades.
blue109
Not much will survive a direct hit from a modern ATGM, and our scumbag leadership has been sending them top shelf gear for years. If it hit the back of the turret, they may have survived, that's where the ammo racks are. the rear and top of the turret have "blow off" plates that are designed to let go in the event of ammo cookoff. The 120mm are caseless and will light off very easy. If that was a turret ring hit, the crew was probably liquefied...but not likely from that angle. Halon isn't going to help either way. Abrams armor is very thick on the front slope and front of the turret. The rear hull is basically a steel grill/exhaust vent. The tank wasn't designed to show its ass to the enemy, or be sitting out in the open with no wing man. a platoon is 4 tanks running staggered and platoon formation covers about 270° of interlocking fire to the front of the formation. gunner and TC can scan individually and It's not easy to hide from thermal sights. US tactics keep the enemy out front and trained crews use the equipment properly. These dirka dirkas get our tanks and just sit out there like idiots. Same as firing TOWs at Toyota pickups, or even individual human target. They aren't paying for it so who cares. hurts my heart to see camel fuckers on those proud beasts...like lions in those tiny cages at the county Fair. Sisco
What the hell are we giving them equipment like that for.

So TPTB can boast how much money they saved not having to ship them back to the USA.
Sisco
The next war with Russia or China, we are going to need all the M-1's we can muster. Don't think it is that far away.

Probably half the reason. I had the fortune to be at the right place in the right time where a HEMMET full of AT5s and LAWs had to be "utilized" We banged missiles off of old dead Russian tank corpses for about 4 hours. It was glorious. that was back in the bush days though. Now we funnel them to terrorist through CIA black sites.
survivalshop
I think it was a lucky hit or this one shooter had some good training or a lot of experience with Tank busting T-72's , which is a real possibility in that area . The newer anti Tank weapons available make things easier to defeat Armor & as said , it was a sitting duck . Sneaky Bastigaes .
