ReddingShooter Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 On my AR10 build I've got a DPMS barrel nut and a slide on Aero Precision free float hand guard. The fit is very tight, the hand guard only slides over the barrel nut maybe 1/8 of an inch before getting tight. I'm worried if I force it I may not get it all the way in place before getting too tight to move it or align the screws. (it needs to go forward another inch and a quarter) Has anyone encountered this and if so, do you know of any tricks to loosen things up. I don't think oil or grease are going to solve this, it's really tight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
survivalshop Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Normally I would say I like them tight & I'm talking about slide on HG fitment , but there could be an issue . I'm going to assume the Barrel Nut came with the Aero HG kit & some light grease may help , so may slight tapping the HG with a soft Mallet . Is the HG & Nut Cerakoted ?
guruofhotrod Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I presume you're using the proper Aero barrel nut? If so, perhaps try a heat gun on the handguard to expand it slightly.
ReddingShooter Posted June 25, 2017 Author Report Posted June 25, 2017 Got it on but wasn't easy. Lube didn't work. Ended up having to slowly grind inside of the HG with a Dremel and sand it smooth.. It took 3 times before it started to slip on. Even then, I had to tap it into place. Definitely nice and tight Thanks for the suggestions
Robocop1051 Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 That's pretty much what I would have done.
survivalshop Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 Too thick of Cerakote . Yep , work on what you will never see .
