jmcdaniel0
Hey all. I finally made the plunge and bought a new DPMS Oracle in .308... I have been wanting a LR308 for general purpose hunting here in East TN for quite awhile. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews on installing Magpul MOE furniture on the .308 platform. Some folks say, *They fit fine no issue.* Some say, *just a bit of modification needed* Every time I find pics or a video of it the links do not work. I am not looking to go full on tactical here, just get rid of the low profile gas block, and add on some flip up sights, just in case I bang my scope around while hunting or something. I am not a gunsmith by any means, and I do not have many tools. SO I want to know what I am in for before I get starts. Any ideas The model number of the rifle i bought is RFLROC/60560. It hasnt shipped from buds yet so I am trying plan ahead.
jtallen83
For now I would shoot it a bunch before any modifications. This will give you a better idea on what your priorities are for the rifle. I usually find a trigger upgrade is top of my list for a factory rifle. jmcdaniel0
I am actually looking at that right now. I am open to suggestions on a good drop in replacement. That wont destroy my marriage or bank account.

Not a bad price either, includes anti-walk or ani rotation pins. I'm very pleased. Velocity 3lb Here's a chart I found comparing a few triggers: Notice the Timney and Velocity are pretty much the same.
jtallen83
The LaRue MBT is a great trigger for the money, $125 normally but often on sale for $99. I have a Velocity made trigger, great feel but it doesn't like some of the harder primers, that and I prefer two stage triggers over single stage. jmcdaniel0
and the velocity drop in for the AR15 will fit the Oracle .308? If so, thats right in my price range, and its reviews are great.
Boot_Scraper
It will. They make a "steal case" version if you're worried about light strikes. I use CCI 200 primers in my reloads and I have had no issues. Edit: I'm not a paid spokesman. I just like my trigger. Any ideas on how to do this since there is only one sling mount.
Boot_Scraper
Maybe something like the Fortis RAP-QD rail mount, mounted on the gas block. Other option would be to change the gas block and/or handguard. It's only the beginning buddy... jmcdaniel0
Well, I decided to just go ahead and do a free floating quad rail, instead of trying to get Magpul furniture to fit. Now, I have no idea how to put the quad rail on, however, I have been looking at youtube videos, and it doesn't seem to be all that hard. I have most of the tools, so Im going to give it a shot. If there are any tips or tricks please let me know.
Boot_Scraper
When I tried to remove my PA10 barrel nut, it didn't budge. The internet suggested that I freeze the entire upper and try it right out of the freezer. Worked like a charm!! Good luck, pics when done! jmcdaniel0
will do for sure. Thats a good tip to know. I would not have thought about trying the freezer. What is a good commercial spec stock that you all would recommend. Something that is sturdy and collapsible, since I plan to use this as a target/hunting rifle. jmcdaniel0
Ok well, I having a hell of a time finding a magpul stock, in commercial spec, in FDE.
jtallen83
https://www.magpul.com/products/firearms-accessories/buttstocks Lots of choices on the Magpul site, just use the filters and select FDE.
jmcdaniel0
Sweet, For some reason every Stock I pulled up on there was not available in FDE. Once, I reloaded the page Wham! There we go. One ACS-L purchased.

When I bought my DPMS Oracle.308 in 2014 from a local gun dealer I asked him to install a front sling swivel, he pulled the Hand guard and screwed in a QD swivel base and put the hand guards back on in 5 minutes and didn't charge me. If you will check out BeachinTactical, he is a sponser on this site. He makes a very neat custom sling. I have two of them. I agree, you should get the rifle in your hands, lube it up, scope it boresight it, go to the range shoot 40 or 50 rounds get familiar with the piece. ..... Clean it,.....next thing, get a Velocity trigger, a Tubbs flat wire buffer spring and see how much of a accurate shooter it makes you. Come back here and tell us your thoughts. jmcdaniel0
I am looking forward to doing just that. I have the fed ex tracking number, so I will have it by weeks end... I fully intend on breaking it in over the weekend. I have to report for a new Job on the 14th. So i want to get some play time in before hand. jmcdaniel0
Alrighty! Got the call from my local Guys to come down and pick up my new toy. I am pleased thus far. Seems to be a nice product with great fit and finish. The factory Stock is actually not to bad. The grip is terrible, but the rest is very nice. jmcdaniel0
My quad rail arrived. Now I am just waiting on the Alumahyde I ordered from brownell's to get here so I can paint it up.
Boot_Scraper
Nice! I like the building more than the shooting. I was the same way in my mud truck days. Building was the best part. I'd get all nerved up when I'd run it though.
