OregonDonor Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Barrel nut question, can't find a wrench its a nemo arms rifle. Any help appreciated.
dpete Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 It came off a Nemo arms rifle? If so how did you get it off? If it is going on a Nemo arms rifle, the rifle makes no difference as long as its a 308 barrel nut and a 308 upper with the same thread pattern. Who made the handguard it is for? My first step would be to contact them.
oli700 Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 A GI wrench won’t match those grooves ? This dude uses a strap
OregonDonor Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 It' a nemo arms handguard lol I have tried contacting them.
OregonDonor Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 I wanna make sure it torqued back down to 45lbs.
OregonDonor Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 (edited) I have a armorers wrench the nut is to big Edited April 10, 2018 by OregonDonor
OregonDonor Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 I could tighten it with the strap I would feel better know it was to spec
98Z5V Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 The range on these things is 30~80 ft/lbs. It's a pretty broad range.
C Funnk Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Pipe wrench and a bit of muscle. Your common sense should let you know when it’s tight enough to be in spec.
GoodByNAair Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 When working on German cars, I call it goood en tight!
98Z5V Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 Grease the threads on the barrel nut (or threads on the upper receiver), and run it down, back it off. Do that three times, and run it down moderately snug - then tighten it to the next notch that will clear the gas tube. You'll be fine.

You can take this to the bank! 98 has probably built more AR platform guns than most people will own in a lifetime. Voice of experience there!
