jtallen83
So after seeing copperheads on the job site I realize I got nothing for snakebites in the med kit. There seems to be a few out there, is one better than the other or should I just do it movie style, cut and suck?
Robocop1051
I definitely not “cut and suck”. That does more damage than good. You want a tourniquet and anything that has a suction device. The tourniquet will do you more good than the suction cup. You just want to keep as much poison out of your bloodstream as possible, until an anti-venom can be administered. A tourniquet can be worn up to four hours without damage to the limb. Once applied do NOT loosen/remove the tourniquet. Only doctors do that. Releasing a tourniquet exposes your organs to all kinds of toxins, which could result in failure/shut down. Not to mention the poison may still be in the wound site
98Z5V
I carry two of these, plus a 6ft long 3" wide self-adhesive wrap, for each. The wrap is the "appendage tourniquet." Start that wrap at the top of the bit limb, and go down to the bite site with it, as tight as you can make it... https://www.firstaidonly.com/11-piece-snake-bite-first-aid-kit-in-a-box.html
