Drew204 Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 Hey fellas was just wondering if any one has any experience with a bsf barrel 18” plan on ordering one this week just curious about the accuracy ? All the videos I see is just about it staying cool
COBrien Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) I'm interested in this, as well. I'm all for carbon fiber and whatnot, but unless they're supremely accurate barrels, I don't know how I feel about paying that much to save a handful of ounces over a traditional steel barrel. For example, I used a BA Modern 16" .308 barrel in a friend's rifle, and it's more accurate than he'll ever be. I picked that barrel up for $163.18 from Optics Planet, and it weighs 35.90 ounces. A similar barrel (length and bore) from BSF would set me back $600 to $650, depending on fluting, and would weigh 28.4 to 30.6 ounces. That's a 15-20% weight reduction at almost 4x the cost... ar-mountaineer Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 I’ve got a .243 carbon fiber barrel. Unfortunately I haven’t shot it very much. I got it a few months ago and sighted it in but it’s only got maybe 30 rounds through it. This deer season I was going to get it set up.
Robocop1051 Posted August 6, 2019 Report Posted August 6, 2019 I have a PROOF barrel. The CF wrapped barrels are NOT lightweight barrels. If you want a LW barrel, check out the Faxon Gunner barrels. CF barrels are lighter than a steel barrel of the same profile, but they are still heavy. If I had it to do over, I would NOT get the CF barrel. It was a waste of money for my shooting.

If you’d like me to weigh them I can probably get to it later tonight. Could be the balance with the stocks but I’m sure that barrel is lighter.
98Z5V Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 I think this was the first person here to move to a BSF carbon fiber barrel: Hit that thread up, quote a post of his,and he'll be back on. I'm curious to see how it's turned out anyhow. @Robocop1051 is correct - the carbon fiber barrels aren't really "light," but they're lighter than the exact-same-profile steel or stainless steel barrel. I know his Proof barrel is pretty damn tough, too. "Smash up some cinderblocks with it" kinda tough. Literally.
