imschur Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 My 1993 Colt Sporter has a kind of gray looking anodizing. Does anyone manufacture flattop uppers this color as opposed to the black anodized hardcoat teflon used today? Is there a matching durable coating that can go over a new upper? I prefer not to alter the Colt's lower.
98Z5V Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 I think the closest you can get is custom finishing. Duracoat has a match for it, but you may have to call them and talk to them to verify.http://www.lauerweaponry.com/Duracoat "Colt Gray":http://www.lauerweaponry.com/item-detail-colorchoice.cfm?category=220&colorchoice=dcr_08.jpg&colortype=stock
draco41 Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 http://www.usanodizing.com/ can match your color. they are the best price i have found around.
imschur Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 Here's where I'm at. US Anodizing can match the color perfectly but Im having a real hard time deciding on a path. It would make more sense to have the lower re-anodized to current milspec standards that way any modern upper would reasonably match. Is there any value leaving this 17 year old Colt in its original condition? If i get the lower done I might as well do the upper as well.Or do I stick with the original plan and match the existing color and leave the Colt parts in their original state. What would you guys do?
draco41 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 In its "as is" stock condition , is it of collectors value? something rare? (other then being preban) me personally, if its not collector grade value wise, I would do the lower to modern milspec finish to match todays choice of parts and toys. but thats me.
imschur Posted April 1, 2010 Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 Well the upper and the ejection port cover headed out to US Anodizing today. The wait begins.Victor is awesome to deal with.
imschur Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 Im still waiting. I realize that color matching this one part is a pain in the ass job for them but Im impatient none the less have a bunch of money tied up in parts waiting to get installed

imschur Posted June 18, 2010 Author Report Posted June 18, 2010 US Anodizing has been very busy with a military contract. They tell me it will be a few more weeks still.

imschur Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 <lmao> this worst part was I assembled the gas block with a carbine length tube. I forgot the barrel was mid length..Pretty much FAIL from the get go
98Z5V Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 I can't help ya with a gas tube - I DEFINITELY don't keep spare gas tubes on hand! WAY too dangerous for me... :-[ :oIf I had a part that big in the locker, it would grow a gun around it in no time flat. <dontknow>
