Lightweight Hunting/DMR 308 Build

Well, this puppy was years in the works. Finally got around to putting all the pieces and parts on it. Then I decided to try my hand at a paint job. It’s multicam-esque but with my own flare.

Parts list:

Aero M5 Upper and Lower

Toolcraft Titanium BCG with 9320 Bolt

Wilson Combat .308 Recon Mid-Length Barrel (16”)

Aero Precision Adjustable Gas Block

Brigand Arms 12” NOAX Handguard

Smoke Composites Carbine Buffer Tube

JP Enterprises Captured AR-10 Buffer (Red Spring)

Magpul SL-S Buttstock

Ergo Tactical Deluxe FDE Pistol Grip (a grip that actually fits my hand!)

Rise Armament Rave-140 Single Stage

Fortis LE K2 Endplate

Notes:

This was an older Wilson barrel and I had to drill out the gas hole to get it to cycle everything. 147 to 175 grain cycle with no issues now. Thanks to 98Z5V for the assist!

The Fortis endplate with the Smoke Composites buffer tubes requires a “looser” Castle nut wrench to fit. I took a cheap one and filed the ears so it would fit. The carbon tube slides into the aluminum “sheath/boss” so it is a bit girthy there.

I have not shot it too much but before paint it was easily a sub MOA gun at 100 yards.

Total weight with empty 20 round magazine is 7 lbs 10 oz. I’m waiting for the charging handle to dry. Epoxy Alum-Hyde takes forever to get hard. I baked it in the oven to speed things up on the rifle.

My goal is to throw an ACOG on it for just over 8 LB total without ammo. Nice and light.

Time to paint my Colt 6920 in 5.56 now!
