It takes a few tries for the dot sights to register in my head.. sight alignment is a practice makes perfect type of deal. I struggle,  still after years of use. I will carry irons,  until that practice works.  Looking forward to your next review.

Finding the red dot on a pistol is all about your draw stroke and doing it the same every time.

I shot a USPSA open gun for a year or two and it does take practice finding the dot. Once you get it it just works.

As I am pushing the gun forward the muzzle is high. As I bring it down I first see the front sight. I know the dot is above the front sight and as I keep bringing the muzzle down the dot appears. That's what works for me.

I don’t anticipate any problems with the transition, I approach the transition like a martial art working slow and precise and building speed

I do have a couple red dots I have tried on rifles and shotguns, and I do appreciate what they bring to the experience. although they aren’t my favorite.

it’s an enhancement, not a distraction.

You've made a good choice IMO. I've had a Hellcat for a couple of years now.  Most reliable handgun I've ever owned - and I've got a few nice ones.  I did add a Hogue HandAll grip sleeve to mine which I really like.  Just made it that much better.

I also have a Holoson 507K x2 on my EDC (Sig 365xl) - it does take some practice to get used to quickly acquiring the sight picture with a red dot vs. an open sight.  But practice is a good thing.  And, once I got used to it, the sight picture is much better with my aging eyes.  Speaking of practice - Thinking I should get down to the pistol range for a bit after lunch today-- it's been a while.

The Sig 365tac was a contender but it was a bit pricier than the hellokitty.

the Holosun is out for delivery, but the adapter plate isn’t due until Wednesday…..

  • 1 month later...

Recently moved the Hellcat into 1st place as my pocket carry option using the 11 round mags with the flush base and an Alabama pocket holster.  Putting the old Sig P938 into gun safe retirement.  Both are fine guns.  But I can pick up the front sight on the Hellcat better with my old eyes. Also, as I've become more accustomed to carrying striker fired pistols over the last few years, I noticed my muscle memory for clicking off the safety as I drew the single action P938 in practice was no longer 100%.  Getting old.  Have to adapt.
