MikedaddyH
Well is almost done ! The 21 inch barrel is chambered just need to drill a gas port hole and install a gas block. Will not use a flash/comp/brake at first ,just want to do an evaluation of the recoil. Will be doing a function testing, I have DPMS,Armalite buffer springs and several different weights of buffers. Hopefully I wont have to add weight to the BCG. I should be assembling it this weekend and shooting it next week. 8) :sniper: I also will be using different ammo, have close to 600 rounds of 30 cal 300WSM from 100gr to 200gr with alot in the 150 to 168gr range. Its surprising how much ammo you can make in 6 months. Picture will follow , for those of you who need that daily dose of gun porn ! ;D

MikedaddyH
Went to the range this morning and shot 2 rounds through it Lance shot 1 round. Had a problem with the ejection port opening which will need to be enlarged so the 300wsm casings can escape. The gas port size seem to be right and it feed properly. The recoil was about the same as "Kate" my 24" Bull barreled DPMS upper without a flash/comp/brake on it. Way less than the 300wsm bolt gun. This has the Mini Gun blank on it and I am impressed ! The diameter is .936" its hefty but the gun doesn't seem heavy. Here's at pic ,not very good too many shadows. It is missing the handguards and has the Hawke Sidewinder scope mounted. MikedaddyH
Saturday I Dremeled the upper receivers for the 270wsm & 300wsm. They are opened to .565" to .571". The top area is smooth and the groove the where the port door attaches to was worked around. The bottom area has a ramp where the square edge was. The ejection port door still operates ! Will coat the uppers with Aluminun Black next. Here are pics of the 300wsm upper.
MikedaddyH
Went to the range today and shot a few rounds. the ejection port opening works but I might open it up .005' to .010" more.I am expereincing a Failure To Chamber condition every few rounds and it is the front edge of the extractor which will need to be milled a half a thousanth of a inch. Thats it.
Robocop1051
You should have gone with a heavier barrel. The girth of that barrel reminds me of a special "show" I saw down in Mexico.

Jgun
Can you confirm for me that the 300WSM uses a larger dia. case than the .308 and other cartridges based on it? If so can you tell me what bolt and carrier your using? Also, who makes the barrel extension that your using? Do you handle the extra gas impulse of the WSM by reducing the gas port dia in the barrel? What about magazines? which do you use, and how many rds do they hold? I wasn't aware that the 300WSM was a viable option in the .308 platform AR's. I thought that the .338 Federal was considered the max. Robocop1051
As far as I know, the 300 WSM comes from the 300 Win Mag... Just a shorter case. From left to right: .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 WSM, .308 Winchester, .223 Remington
Jgun
Thats my understanding also, which means that it has a larger cartridge base dia., which I'm assuming also means that it would require a different bolt , and maybe a different barrel extension. It might take a Pmag, but I'm guessing that it would become a single stack. That's why I was asking the OP. As previously stated, I didn't know that the .308 platform AR's could be "stretched" to accomodate 300WSM.
MikedaddyH
JGUN,The case is larger (.555") rim is (.535").Barrel extension, BAT through Brownells.Modified Bolt, Modified Pmag (10 + 1 ).This is the twin build of the Kyle Busch Gun (270wsm) all the parts are listed in that thread. Robocop1051
Is the 270 WSM the same size base as the 300 WSM? Are you sharing the BCG between two rifles?
MikedaddyH
The 270WSM and the 300WSM are from the same parent shell casing, just necked different. The 7mmWSM is the other casing which shares the same specs. These are two separate rifle builds, I might share M7 lube.
MikedaddyH
Another update,I opened up the ejection port opening even more, removed the door. Now there is no more brass being damaged. I went to range today and shot 50 plus rounds. The 92% loads were dropping at 3 to 4 o'clock , the 96 % loads were coming out at 2 o'clock. I'm going to change from the DPMS spring to the Armalite spring then i'll add some buffer weight if that doesn't work. The gun ran good today ,last round hold open worked every time. No problems failing to chamber, no FTE's .I'll take some picture tommorrow.
imschur
I really like the idea of this. Have you discussed springs and buffers with Slash?
MikedaddyH
I really like the idea of this. Have you discussed springs and buffers with Slash? No ! I just read his teaching and follow the masters words. His charts have been so valuable when building ,tuning and ordering parts. Pick and play parts selection saves money when you have a good starting point.
MikedaddyH
Here are some pictures before I clean the rifle for the first time 67 rounds were shot through it and it is very clean. Took out the BCG so you guys could look at it. The ejection port opening has been milled after it was dremiled/ported. The lower receiver is a Quentin Defence QD308 ,it is the lowest number I could get ! So I am dubbing it the Kasey Kane #5 build.
