MarkB Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Hi all,Wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience and to get some suggestions. Got a .243 LW heavy barrel and during assembly find out that the last 2" (approx) of the barrel is too thick to allow the MA-TEN nut to slide down to engage the threads on the receiver.Any thoughts? Thanks!
Matt.Cross Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Measure the ID of the barrel nut and have your barrel turned down to an easy slip fit by a qualified gunsmith.
MarkB Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. Now just have to find a local GS with the proper equipment.I welcome any recommendations for central/southern Indiana.
unforgiven Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 I'm in nothwest corner Griffith. There got to be a good smith in Indy. They have good size gun show also.
MarkB Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 you're right. just have to find him.
98Z5V Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 OP, contact ADCO (Steve @ ADCO), and send your poop to him. There's probably no one else in this country that can do the work that he can do, when you say what you want done. Sure, you could explain it to some badass gunsmith, and explain what you want done, and they could probably pull it off, if they understand you right - but you don't have to explain it to ADCO. Just tell them what you want done, and it'll be done.
MarkB Posted December 30, 2012 Author Report Posted December 30, 2012 okay. success.talked with a gunsmith who said there was too little (.0015) for him to mess with. suggested that I take some emery cloth and polish it down to what I needed. so, a little elbow grease one evening and ouila! slid in just like it was supposed to.
Tripledeuce Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 The good thing is-------- You found an HONEST gunsmith!!!!! Good to know, for any future projects! Respectfully Terry
