imschur Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 I was poking around Brownells to see what was left in the way of AR15 parts. I was surprised to see the Redi-Mag available. Cost probably has something to do with it <laughs>
imschur Posted January 1, 2013 Author Report Posted January 1, 2013 Did not realize there was a cheaper version.
98Z5V Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 I've got the cheaper one, and cut it down myself... <thumbsup> Better view of the magwell, that way.
98Z5V Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 The machined Redi-Mag was born of necessity - Blue Force Gear was modifying standard Redi-Mags, and selling them as the "Redi-Mod." Cut magwell, machined out sections to lighten it, etc. Search "Redi-Mod" and you'll find it.The machined one came from that.I cut up my own Redi-Mag, just for a better view of the rifle's magwell - gotta see what you're hitting with that second mag. <thumbsup>When the paint was new... <laughs>
98Z5V Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 I love it - was issued the original 1st gen in 2003, and used it in Afghanistan. With a Redi-Mag and a BAD lever, you truly have a match made in heaven. The "cheaper" one you posted is actually the second gen. 1st gen dropped both mags when you hit the rifle's mag release. The "improved" one doesn't drop it's mag when you drop the empty in the rifle - it has it's own mag release. That's a good upgrade, IMHO. Hitting the rifle mag release, and having two mags to deal with at the same time - can be a bad time. Drop one, then drop the other, that's way better, I think (and used both). Now, on the "improved" one, you still have choices - you want the "Quick Attach" version. Trust me on that.
Pappy1600 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Have you tried any of the Magpul Maglinks yet? I picked a few to try out and I do like them.. and the price is right for them.
98Z5V Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Personally, I don't like having two mags hooked together - they're a bitch to deal with once they're both empty.
Pappy1600 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Personally, I don't like having two mags hooked together - they're a bitch to deal with once they're both empty.I hear what you're saying, but as long as they fit in my tac vest I'm happy.
98Z5V Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Go through those 60 rounds, and stick that thing back in your tac vest... or a cargo pocket. It doesn't work well. They're cool for the first 60, but unmanageable after that. That's why I hate 'em...
Rsquared Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 I think that it's all personal preference. Whatever you're comfortable with right?
