JP muzzle break.....line it up by machining or....

Recommended Posts

Ok, continuing with barrel questions.  We have a jp long muzzle break.  Of coarse it doesnt match up.  So we either need  a crush washer, lock nut, or machine the back of the break down.  Now I have heard that since the barrel thread is 5/8x24 and it is .925 that the crush washer and peel washer are not an option.  So what are my options?  I think machining the back down would be sweet, but I dont know anyone that can do that.

Indexing shims, for your barrel diameter.  <thumbsup>

The mounting area is 5/8", so it doesn't matter what your barrel size is.  PWS makes the shim kit, Brownell's sells it (temp out of stock) and nokick.com has it in stock.  $4.50.

off topic a little, but i could use a little advice. I just went to install a JP muzzle brake on my lr308. finger tight i still had about 290 degrees to time it. 25 pounds of torque wouldnt come close. i put my old crush washer on and it came around fine with 20 pounds. is this okay to use? and yes it is right side up (ports at top).
