I used to ride with a girl who spent time volunteering for some nuns in New Mexico. She would ride her mountain bike into Mexico to help some locals. One day she got a flat tire while we were riding. She had these hard plastic liners inside the tires. She said they were for thorns.

Yup, i used to put those in all my kids bikes along with the thick thorn resistant inner tubes AND stop leak! That was the only way I could keep them half way decent at holding air. Fukkin mesquite thorns! :tweed:

jon..dont even remember who was there that day. i know duncan caldwell and vern atkins were if you know either of them. i actually sprained my ankle badly about 2 seconds after that pic was snapped. heres another angle of that rock..i lost the spine and slid down near the bottleneck.

imschur...the pics in that first link look delicious. id love to molest some of that off camber rocky stuff. looks like you could get some "uh oh..too fast" speed going.

we have a brutal downhill trail here called La Millagrosa.  shes an evil wench that leaves you wondering if you actually had fun, or you are just happy to have made it through in one piece. i misjudged my position on a steep fast section and punched a big cholla. several spines went clean through my thumb nail. friend had to stand on my arm and pul them out with a gerber tool lol

I still use the kevlar liners.

This place eats tires.
