jrtMA Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I consider myself a fairly open-minded person but the startup of this channel infuriates me to no end! I kept hearing advertising for this garbage on my local sports radio programming and I changed the channel. So now we as Americans, who are still fighting a war on terror, allow for this? http://www.newsday.com/opinion/oped/may-what-s-wrong-with-al-jazeera-america-a-lot-1.5973155 http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/08/20/how-well-do-you-know-al-jazeera-glenn-beck-reveals-networks-origins-some-telling-clips-you-may-not-have-seen/
planeflyer21 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Not a big fan of anything arabic/muslim at the moment... BUT Al Jazeera is a good alternate source for news, if for nothing else the fact that the information they give on the middle east and it being (usually) contradictory to what CNN/MSNBS/FOX/et al are spoon feeding us. Example: when the current administration was telling us the arab spring was bringing democrapcy to the middle east, Al Jazeera was reporting that muslim fanatics were using the opportunity to sieze power. I look at info from everywhere, filter out the BS, realize there's nothing left, then get Mexican food.
jrtMA Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 Good points. I'm of a similar mindset and rarely flip on the stupid box for my news. Most have their own agenda nowadays. My problem is not with it originating in the Middle East. I've spent some enjoyable time visiting (or deployed) in certain countries in the Middle East. I've caught a lot of very unflattering information through the years regarding the owners of Al Jazeer. That's not to say media moguls like Murdoch and Bloomberg deserve consideration for sainthood either, the Qatar family just seems to always be synonymous with oil, gas, and terrorism.
blue109 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Aljazeera is usually my first stop when reading the news. Probably the most unbiased source around currently. They do have some editorial pieces now and then that I don't like, but the news itself is generally good.
392heminut Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Aljazeera is usually my first stop when reading the news. Probably the most unbiased source around currently. ^^^^This! I figured the same thing, probably get a more unbiased view than any of the U.S. media puts out.
BLKSHEEP Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Aljazeera, brought to you by Al Gore ::) http://cnsnews.com/news/article/al-gore-al-jazeera-honest-goodness-news
blue109 Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 I read Murdoch was already trying to get his greasy hands in on it too. As long as its the same news as the rest of the network I think it will be ok. I don't have cable/TV at my house anyway so I only see the online content.
jrtMA Posted September 7, 2013 Author Report Posted September 7, 2013 ^^^Murdoch has his hands in too much and further reducing the competition is bad no matter how it's spun. I rarely watch little more than the weather with my local news. I consider most of it to be fairly redundant and too much entertainment "news" has seeped into regular news. I prefer the Internet too.
