shepp
I would like to replace the fixed front sight/gas block, my gun smithing skills aren't superb more like rookie. How hard of a project to install? It would be on my spike dissy. Any suggestion on what to install? Prolly look on Midwest industries as they are just down the road. Thanks
98Z5V
Taking off the fixed front sight will be more of a job than putting on the new gb. Look at the taper pins closely - one side will be smaller than the other. You want to hit the small side. I start them with a punch that's about twice the size of the pin. Hit that thing HARD. Hard enough that you think you are using WAY too much force. I'm not kidding. Once they start to move, step the punch down to a size that will drive them all the way out. HIT THEM HARD... Robocop1051
How do I tell the diameter of my barrel?? Took the hand guard off I don't see anything stamped on it I assume you're still talking about gasblock diameters... They only come in four sizes; .625 (5/8"), .750 (3/4"), .875 (7/8"), .936 (15/16"... roughly). You should be able to measure fairly easily with a standard ruler. Measure around the gasblock area, not the barrel.
