I know a Swiss who used to visit the U.S. every year on vacation. He spent a lot of time hanging out at the pawn shop, he loved guns and we became friends.

There are 3 chief real world reasons to go to war. To defend, to steal and revenge. If Switzerland has no interest in bullying other nations, then creating the situation where foreign powers have nothing to steal knocks out 2 motives right there. And as long as they stay neutral, there will be little reason to seek revenge against them. Leaving foreign nations no motive to go to war with you in the first place is a great defense strategy. And letting everyone else know you have that system in place is just saying to potential enemies, "there's nothing for you here".
