2336 Posted November 15, 2014 Author Report Posted November 15, 2014 Actually all you need is a square, feeler gauge, and $20 reamer. But when in doubt ship it out. The last part of your statement applies to me! I sometimes have an uncanny ability to screw up the least complicated thing! LOL!
98Z5V Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 OP, don't every let anybody tell you that you can't do this $hit at home... You can. Many here are suggesting that - and they're right. <thumbsup>

Many here are suggesting that - and they're right. <thumbsup> Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been able to learn how to do quite a bit on the AR platform and actually branched out into modifying Saigas to the conventional pistol grip AK format. The only reason I farmed out these two barrels is that I've never done a FSB install and I wanted these done perfectly. So I might try my hand at a FSB install on my next build, hopefully a Hydra-Matic M16A1 clone. Since we are talking about the two barrels and the FSB installs, I've got some news for you guys. John Thomas at Retro Arms will be doing those FSBs for me as well as refinishing some handguards and a pistol grip in the "mottled brown". I hope to have everything back and at least the AR-10/Cuban clone done by the first week of Dec - and photos posted. ;)
survivalshop Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 That pin set up on the gas block above is not like the tapered pin set up on a standard A 2 sight gas block on a M16/AR 15 . You better be sure the gas port alignments are correct before doing any drilling ,its a one shot deal .
98Z5V Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 Tapered pins are a big deal, and alignment is critical, but Rainier Arms sells the jig that makes that particular job easy. With that thing, you can do it at home - with a hand drill. <thumbsup> I'll never pay someone to do something for me when I can buy the tools to complete that job, and spend the same amount or a little more. By doing it myself, even buying the tool, I've added a capability. Even if I only use it once.
