The new Match Series of barrels takes Faxon’s renowned performance and value up a notch. All Match Series barrels start as 416-R gun-barrel-quality stainless steel. Manufactured 100% in-house, the Match Series features 5R rifling for increased velocity, decreased bullet deformation, and ease of cleaning. All barrels are fully stress relieved and finally salt bath nitride coated inside and out for corrosion resistance and longevity. All Match Series barrels further feature NP3 coated extensions. The nickel-Teflon coating smooths feed ramps and its self-lubricating properties increase reliability. The Match Series will be available across all calibers that Faxon manufactures including 300 BLK, .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, and newly released .223 Wylde. All calibers feature 1/8” twist except for .308 in 1/10”. Available contours will include Faxon’s famed pencil profile, Gunner, heavy fluted, and Flame fluted barrels. Lengths will vary by caliber. “We are thrilled to formally include .223 Wylde on our production barrels.” stated Nathanial Schueth, Director of Sales & Product Management. “The .223 Wylde chamber takes advantage of the Match Series’ 5R rifling, 416-R Stainless Steel, and NP3 extension to enhance accuracy while staying compatible with both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO charged loads.” Faxon’s various stainless-steel barrels will all be upgraded to the Match Series of barrels over the next few months. We test functionality to subsonic rounds as we have to given the caliber's wide operating ratio. We generally follow this procedure: http://faxonfirearms.com/blog/frequently-asked-questions-buffer-weight/ On the 300 BLK, we run tightly to this testing parameter as opening it further leads to complaints of "overgassing". My assumption is that your weapon was just below that functional threshold due to gas seal, buffer, or other minor variation. If you ever have any issues, contact our Customer Service. We'll make it right.

That may have been the case in the past, but modern manufacturing techniques have vastly improved pencil and lite barrel performance. Try one of ours. If you don't like it, I will refund it myself.

Gents- Our thanks for the heads-up on this thread. We're happy to help, but my posting will be limited to this one until Tuesday. Trying to take a few days off after whirlwind travel. As documented on this forum, Faxon changed its gas port lengths approximately two years ago. We went from true "DPMS" specification to extending 1/4" further as customers reported being upset with the inability to use non-free floated systems like FSBs and standard M16 handguards. True DPMS specification is unique to them for the aftermarket non-free float compatibility. We are not yet either true "Armalite" either as we extended .250" versus the .325" needed in some cases. We did this to use standard AR-15 tubes. Prior to this change, Faxon tested, extensively, the change in gas port / gas tube length for function. So long as the tube has a good seal on the key, the overlap is largely superfluous. We actually recommend using standard "AR-15" tubes as they work for everything we have ever tested. Our guns in-house use standard Ar-15 tubes. In the case of this particular customer, my personal opinion on the issue is that there is not an issue with the gas tube length. For the weapon to work for a period and for the function to degrade indicates other potential issues, which in our experience is the gas block/tube, BCG, or buffer system. OP - please feel free to PM and/or e-mail me and I will help with troubleshooting.
