First , get a somewhat large cardboard box to sit in front of or to the side as you are going to attempt any install of this Detent , to capture if it tries to go to the Moon & back . I use a Jewelers small flat blade screw driver & hold the Detent down while inserting the Pin , The small screw driver can be inserted through the opposite Pin hole & when inserting the Pin , the Pin will push it out of the way . Doesn't matter it the Detent is aligned with its Grove in the Pin , all you do is rotate the Pin to align it , after its captured by the Pin .

Nice , I like it , good job on the dip .

Do the above first , make sure the Extractor spring set up is correct , DPMS has a spring within a spring set up , some use a Donut & single spring , I have found that to be sub par in most cases .Sometimes its the Ejector spring is weak , broken or too short . I would change the Extractor & Spring with a real DPMS LR 308 one first , after inspection , then the Ejector & spring . I have also seen where some put an bevel on the face of the Ejector to help it eject ,they say the face of the Ejector is too flat & the Bevel around the edge helps the spent case angle out of the ejection Port . I have never done this , so can't say it has any merit , but ya never know . Did your failure issue look something like this ? Changing the Extractor to a DPMS one fixed this issue . BCG was not OEM DPMS .

From what you are saying is ,the Alignment Pin is seating before the Barrels Extension flange is seating against the Upper Receiver ? Hard to compare two different types of receivers , but you would think they would line up the same , if machined correctly . Now that looks correct . Have you tried torquing this Barrel onto the Upper Receiver yet ?
-
Not familiar with that model of Aero Upper , so can say for sure how its set up , but one thing thats different with a 308AR verses an AR 15 , there is really no need for the M4 type feed ramps on the Upper Receiver . The 308 sits much higher in the Mag & feeds different , so if they even hit that part of the Upper receiver , there is something wrong to begin with . You will only know if someone here has a 308AR already assembled with that Upper Receiver type or by completely assemble the rifle & check Head space & check rifles Function with Dummy rounds . Is the Barrels Flange seated fully against the Upper receiver ?

I have been using it in 44 mag for ever & heavy loads in my 45 Colt Blackhawks . The new Blue dot had a warning not to load it to the same charge weights of the older Powder like I have . Not sure about any other warnings , it does make a stout load , Dropped many Deer with it & a 200 gr. Speer ,44 mag. Bullet .

Blue Dot also changed a couple years ago , I'm still using the last of my Hercules Blue Dot .

Could be , but there's a lot of years I was real Lucky , or I might have been doing something right . I'm a" Convert", I'm sold on them now , takes all the guess work out of that detail .

More research , nice . Too many interesting wild cats out there now or is it because they are starting to use them on an AR platform ?

Fuking Russian's !

I'm still contemplating this Caliber , its just not the Barrel , its the Dies , Case gage , Bullets or a different Caliber & Powder , the rest is easy . I can get a Lee Die set for $ 30, a Case Gage for $ 38 , Bullets are no big deal & the brass is already in my stock , just needs to be formed , as with the 300BLK . I have always been of thought , that I want to keep all my firearms in calibers that are common, popular & have Milspec counter parts . Handgun -9MM, 45acp , Rifles - 5.56, 308 & even 30'06 , the 300BLK was the first odd ball Caliber I built a rifle with & I do like it , actually I like it a lot . Not sure this 25-45 Sharps has the same appeal to me now that i have thought about it & researched it . Then again , it could be a better cartridge then the 300BLK for the AR , maybe not suppressed , but all around . Just not there yet .

Now they are gone , I must be losing what mind I have left , because they were just there . WTF

Why are we getting double posts ?

HEADSPACE GAGE INSTRUCTIONS The Forster Headspace Gage is designed to ensure accurate testing of chamber headspace. Headspace is the distance between the face of the breech and the base of the cartridge when the action is closed. Safety and accuracy are threatened when excessive headspace exists. For best results with bolt action rifles, remove the extractor from the bolt. The bolt must work freely in the receiver. It is impossible to have the proper feel for a gage if the bolt is tight or sticky. Insert the proper gage into the action. Attempt to close the bolt on the gage. CAUTION — Never force the bolt closed on a gage. A rifle with correct headspace should close easily and without feel on the GO gage, but should not close on the FIELD gage. If it does close on the NO-GO gage, but not on the FIELD gage, the rifle may still be serviceable. However, it is not advisable to use it for best accuracy with factory ammunition. CAUTION — Any rifle that will close on the field gage may have dangerously excessive headspace and should not be fired under any circumstances. Three lengths of Headspace Gages are available per caliber: GO length — This checks the rifle to see that the chamber will accept the cartridges made to maximum SAAMI specifications. NO-GO length — This is used by most gunsmiths as a maximum headspace gage when chambering a rifle’s headspace dimension. If a rifle closes on a NO-GO gage, it may have excessive headspace. If a rifle closes on a NO-GO gage, it may still be within the SAAMI Rifle Chamber tolerance. Next, it should be checked with a FIELD gage. FIELD length — If a rifle closes on a FIELD length gage, its chamber is dangerously close to, or longer than, SAAMI’s specified maximum chamber size. This is the longest of the three gage lengths. Custom-length Forster gages are available. A grinding fee will apply. Call, fax, or e-mail us with inquiries for special gages. GO, NO-GO, and FIELD length Headspace Gages are available in the following calibers: For rimless calibers — 22 PPC, 220 Swift, 222 Rem., 222 Rem. Mag., 22-250 Rem., 223 Rem., 243 Win., 244 Rem., 250 Sav., 25-06 Rem., 257 Rob., 270 Win., 6mm PPC, 6.5 x 55 SKAN, 6.5 x 55 Swede, 7mm-08 Rem., 7mm Mauser, 280 Rem., 284 Win., 30 Carbine M1, M1A1, M2, M3, 30-06, 308 Win., 8mm x 57 Mauser, 358 Win. For rimmed calibers — 219 Wasp & Zipper, 22 Rimfire, 22 Sav. H.P., 25-35, 275 Mag., 303 Br., 300 Mag., 30-30, 30-40 Krag, 32 Win. Sp., 32-40, 375 Mag., 38-55, 30 Carbine. I will post this again , it seems to double or disappear all by its self , try again . Hard to say what brand of HS Gages Faxon uses , they are not all alike , did you remove the Ejector for testing ?

I just learned this with a new single Stage Press I just purchased ( there is a thread one the MEC press ) & I've been loading for over forty years ! Never to old to learn , just that I never needed one till lately & now I have one for almost every Rifle cartridge I load for . The 300BLK was out of stock when I ordered .

Thats strange for you , components in FDE

Hard not to agree with that , though the 5.56 has worked for a long time , sure ,not the best for every thing , but neither is the 25-45 . The Hornady Bullets seem like they will work . I also looked at Nosler .
-
Its got a a place , just not sure this Caliber is worth the extra investment over the 300BLK , my 300BLK is the lightest AR I own, I built it for Hog Hunting .

This is from a guy called 320 pf , on ARfcom. Bullet choice is very limited . Quote " During the development of this cartridge we ended up shortening the case to 1.70" (43mm) so we would have a wider range of Bullets to choose form. Because of the COL limits of the AR platform, the ogive (nose length) of the Bullet can only be 0.5" long, hence 25x45 Sharps will have a pretty limited choice of bullets because the case neck will ride up onto the ogive. All bulletswith a VLD type nose/tip (high BC bullets) have this problem the 25x45 Sharps. Some people suggest that you can trim the cases shorter as a work around. There are two problems with this however, this can cause poor accuracy and very high pressures in the rifle due to accumulation of metal jacket material that accumulates in the gap left between the case mouth and the lip the clearance of the case mouth. Here is a list of the lighter bullet with long ogives that will have problems with a 1.76" (45mm) long case. 75g Hornady VMAX 80g Barnes TTSX 85g Nosler BT 87g Speer TNT 88g BIB (This bullet has a very high BC (0.42) for it's weight. 90g Sierra. Piston , rifle gas , I almost ordered a Barrel today . Still need to look into this , seems SRC is the only one that makes or has them made , as far as I can tell . I'm sure any BBL> maker can make one in that Caliber , if they wanted .
-
Its the only length I would have on a 16" , just think longer is better . For All you perverts, I'm talking about Gas systems .
