  1. I will have to look when it gets here ,but there may have to be a gap for the proper positioning of the full length rail. I will also have to look at the instructions more closely when I get a chance. I will have to back that HG nut off almost a full turn . We will see what it looks like both ways when the rail gets here .
  2. Why would you need a gap between the hand guard nut & upper receiver ? If the hand guard nut is tightened up to the & against the upper ,would it not be like a monolithic , one piece upper ? Will it make a diff. ? I just ordered my upper rail ,so it will be a couple of days before I even get a chance to play with the assem. I will try to take some photo's in the AM (got to work again tomorrow night ) You will see in the photos , that my hand guard nut is only a hair away from lining up with it snugged against the upper.
  3. Got my VTAC the other day & been so busy I have not had time to take photo's . It was worth the wait that's for sure . I ordered a full length fail ,so it will not be put together until it arrives. My hand guard nut is just slightly off from being in alignment for the gas tube with it tight . I will lap some off the back face to get it to tighten with out the use of loc tight as there instructions say. This is going to be a iron sight rifle only ,so I have to get the rail lined up with the top rail of the upper & of course make sure the gas tube is good to go. I have it mocked up & will take some photo's to post .
  4. SI Defence make a real nice upper also , same rail height as what we want to call norm before DPMS changed the game with there new rail height. Look at the three diff. uppers they have , I have the Gen. II . I got it be fore the Gen. II came out . http://shop.si-defense.com/
  5. If you don't have it by now ,order one from FA. Ya can't go wrong there . Have it at your door in a week & a better barrel .
  6. OK I posted this in the other thread & I'll ask it here also. What happened to the 25 rd. CMags ?
  7. What ever happened to the 25 rd. CMags ? I don't recall seeing anything lately.
  8. I will get mine Tuesday & should have it on by the end of the week . I'm the lucky one ,I have an all new install. 16" Med.Wt.
  9. I know I'm kinda late posting any thing in this thread . Hows the rifle shooting ? Are your 147 gr. projectiles in the form of 7.62 NATO ammo ? Its not That it can't be fired in most 308's , but some match chambers may not like them at first or at all. As said above ,keep it well wet with lube & of course try diff. manufacturer mags.
  10. My JP VTAC hand guard for the latest m308 is on the way . It was a strange deal & I posted about it on another forum . Basically , I ordered it over four weeks ago & finally sent them an email about its progress & got a very quick response & that was they were having manufacturing difficulties making the DPMS type bbl. nut & it would be another 4-5 week wait . Well, I posted at the other forum about there response & low & behold got a shipping notice the next day. Go figure !
  11. The 308 is a great cartridge period & then coupling it with the AR platform & its customizing capabilities just make s sense. It is too bad when the org. AR10 came out they did not show much intrest in it to get the bugs out . Isn't it strange how these calibers go full circle 30 cal. to 223 ,45acp to 9mm & now most of those who use them are going back to the ones that were switched. One could talk about how much ammo you can Carrie ,but it comes down to hitting your target ,not dumping projectiles down range . Oh and of course what the projectile is capable of doing.
  12. Can't really help you with the particular bullet or powder. I've been using WC846 ,its mil. pull down powder , a little dirty , but I use it in 308,30'06 & 223 with great results in all those cal.. It is hard to give a load on it ,because all that pull down stuff is diff. lot by lot & what may be good for one lot may not be good for the next. I've been using it because I have so much of it & its about twenty years old, like most of my reloading equipment & even most of my primers (do have some new now ,been running low). WC 846 is hard to come by now , but do see it from time to time & I will pick up more when I get the chance. You don't say much about your AR 308, what bbl., trigger, what mags you using ?
  13. I also enjoy there separate catalogs ,but Brownell's needs to add more 308 stuff. I deal with them a lot & any thing I need for gunsmithing ,they are my go to place .
