  1. I'm not familiar with these barrels. Have you heard anything specific about them? Is there any reason, other than the $30 price difference, why you'd consider this to be a better choice than the 14.7" or 16" Wilson 300BLK barrels?
  2. The BAD lever will fit in the cutout of the MA Ten upper, if the monolithic has the same cutout configuration, it would fit that as well, so if you use a standard .308 bolt catch you can use the BAD lever on it, as an alternative option to the phase 5.
  3. You may be overthinking this a little. If you check the ID of the BABC and the OD of the barrel thread and they are within tolerance, You probably have a tight thread on the comp or barrel. Without getting into checking the comp with a thread gauge or the barrel with pins, your best bet is to try a comp you know to be good on the barrel. If you PM me an address, I can send one for you to try on your barrel. If you're not feeling comfortable about doing this yourself, maybe you can take the barrel and comp to a local machine shop (that you trust), They should be able to run a tap or die on/in to the offending part for you, for less than what you'd pay to buy the tap or die yourself.
  4. I have a Kaiser receiver set, (non Reach) When they were in business, all of their receivers (AFAIK) were machined to accept the reach system. The way they satisfied my request was to machine a small block that filled the space in the front of the upper, where the front charging arm passed through to bear on the gas key. After seeing a couple of pictures of their guns with the front charger, and having in my possesion, one of the same type of SWS rails that they used. I don't believe it would be too difficult to do a one off of the design. The only problem is, you'd have to be willing to take a mill to your upper, and rail, and once done you'd need to figure out how to go about refinishing the exposed area of the rail.
  5. I've seen .308 AR's going for $1200 0n the used market from time to time. At the price he's talking about, I think he's going to need to keep 1K-$1200 handy and be ready to jump when he see's one of those deals come up. I've noticed that there seem to be a lot more of them showing up lately, with the economy being so bad. I don't see how your going to put a decent one together for 1K.
  6. Just curious, I see you mention that your trying to keep the length of the gun down, but you say your going with the DD barrel. I took a look on their site and although they look like good barrels, I only see a 16" 300BLK barrel. Does Magpul offer a shorter handguard that would allow you to go with your pictured configuration, with the site mounted on the PRI GB but using a 14.5" barrel?
  7. Your talking about using a MA TEN upper/lower set, and using everything else from a DPMS? If so, it should be no problem, other than the possibility of tolerance stacking that could just as easily happen when swapping the components from one DPMS receiver to another DPMS receiver. One other thing, depending on what the Gen of DPMS the parts are coming from, you could have a situation where the rail height doesn't match the MA TEN upper, since DPMS recently raised the height of their uppers, and rails to match.
  8. You would use a 5/8"-24 tap for a 5/8"-24 tread. You may just be experiencing a situation where either the external thread of the barrel is oversize or the internal thread of the brake is undersize. Your outside dia on the barrel where the thread is, should be just under .625". You have the choice of running a tap into the brake to chase the internal thread, or using a die on the barrel thread. I doubt that your brake ID or barrel OD will be off, more likely one of the threads is just tight. If you have another brake/flash hider, try it on the barrel to see if it goes. I don't know what thread Rainier uses for their .308 barrels, but 5/8"-24 is most common. The last BABC I installed was 5/8"-24. I don't think they offer it with any other.
  9. Does that mean you put it on a .936" mandrel in a rotary table? Or did you use form tools?
  10. I've go a bunch of different triggers in my AR's. From my limited experience, if price is not a consideration, I like the Gold triggers the best . I've got them in both small platform and .308 guns, and the only thing I don't like about them is the obnoxious color of the trigger. For me the best trigger I've used Dollar for dollar is the Jard that I've got in one of my .308's, especially with the deal I got on it here on the forum. I think it's worth considering if your trying to save money. I've heard that the Springfield trigger job is also a good way to go, but haven't tried it. I put one of the Geissele S 3G triggers in my 300BLK comp gun because I really prefer a flat trigger, and although I like that feature of it, I certainly would not consider it for a gun that I setup with group size as my primary focus. When I spoke to the Rep, he agreed, saying that if your looking for accuracy off the bench, one of their 2 stage triggers would be a better choice. I have yet to try one of them so can't speak from experience on that.
  11. Beautiful build!, I especially like the way you fit the piston kit to the DD rail. Looks like a factory job. You'll have to let us know how you like the piston setup once you've had a few 100 rds through it.
  12. Nice looking gas block. Did you profile that with a CNC? If you've got access to that, you might want to consider running off a few, not that you're going to make much on them, but, you never know what it could lead to.
  13. I think you will find that most here would consider a POF to be a top shelf AR. I have shot them and have handled the stripped receivers, and could not find any quality issues with them. That being said, if you were to ask someone which is better, Ford or Chevy, your going to get a different answer depending on where their brand loyalty lies. I personally think that they make an excellent product, and have found their customer service to be the among the very best, they really stand behind their product. In trying to make a decision on this trade, you might want to take a couple things into consideration. The POF is a piston operated gun, is that you r preference, Do you care? As such it will likely be a little heavier than a DI gun speced out similarly. The POF uses their own proprietary BCG/piston setup/rail/upper. If You're interested in becoming involved more deeply in the platform to the extant that you might want to be changing those parts, the POF might not be as desirable to you as some other mfgs offerings. If your wish is to buy a high quality gun, have to do very little to keep it running and just shoot it, You will probably not be disappointed. As far as whether it's worth trading the other two guns for this one, only you can decide that. You can always look online to see what your two guns are worth on the used market, vs what the POF is worth. Have you asked the seller if you could try out the gun? If possible, that might help you to make your decision.
  14. On my small frame AR builds, I routinely fit oversize national match pins available from Armalite. Another option is the expanding takedown pins available from Demon tactical, and others. Unfortunately, I have yet to see them offered for the large frame AR's. If any members are aware of someone selling OS pins for the .308 AR, Please let me know.
  15. Have to agree with you guys on the cheek weld. I don't own an 870, and don't know if the new Magpul stock would give me the proper cheek weld, but I've got a Saiga with a CTR stock, and when I added the tallest riser that Magpul makes for it (3/4" I think) it made a BIG difference on how quick I could acquire my targets using a red dot. I was faster and more accurate.
  16. I, also got the flyer from Midway this week . I see that they have the 300BLK 125 SMK's for $160 per 500. Best price I've seen for them. I'm looking forward to hearing what your results are at 200 with your 16" barrel.
  17. I like it, Maybe you can list some of the parts choices? I'm wondering if (since this is a rendering) some of the parts I see depicted are just generic and not any specific Manufactureres part? I recognize the Magpul handguard, but not the muzzle device, aren't you partial to the Battle comp? I was also wondering what barrel your planning? Am I correct, that the GB area of the barrel is not an accurate representation of the actual configuration? I think your going to find the 300BLk to be a good cartridge. I know your .308 build is destined to be a real lightweight, but I think you will find that without getting exotic, the small platform 300BLK build will be lighter AND more nimble than your .308 AR, and that is as it should be, because the 300 is an intermediate cartridge while the .308 is a battle rifle cartridge, with recoil to match, and benefit's from a little more weight when trying to shoot it fast. Isn't the Magpul handguard a non freefloat? I don't know to what extent this is true, but I hear that freefloating the barrel is helpful for accuracy. One of the things I enjoy about this forum is getting to see people such as yourself, trying parts combinations that are not just a copy of what 20 others have already done. I think it motivates the rest of us to "think outside the box". I look forward to seeing the finished product and hearing your range review. Good luck with it.
  18. As RJM states, the Armalite (and the Noveske) GB are intended for switching back and forth between 2, or 3 settings, Normal, suppressed, closed, and are not really fully adjustable. If you wanted to fine tune your gas impulse to match specific ammo as Imschur suggests, You would need to use one of the screw in adjustable GB's like offered by JP Rifles or PRI. Of course those GB's are not quickly adjustable between different settings, more like you go out to the range, and adjust it until the gun cycles with your desired ammo, and then leave it alone.
  19. As stated, the rifle looks very similar to the AK that we're all familiar with. The AN-94 on the other hand, IS a new operating system, although I'm not sure how good it is. I've seen in video's that the 94's barrel actually cycles back and forth when it fires, Not sure how conducive that would be to accuracy in a small shoulder fired weapon?
  20. Based on Imschur's post, perhaps it would be an advantage, if you were able to tailor your gas impulse to match your handloads bt using an adjustable gas block. I haven't used them on any of my .308 AR's, only small platform AR's with low mass BCG's used in competition. On my .308's I've used heavier buffers with non adjustable GB's and have seen no indications that my BCG is bottoming out and doing any damage to the buffer/tube. Certainly, an adjustable GB would allow you to set the gas impulse to the minimum needed to cycle the action.
  21. I didn't research the uppers you listed, so I'm shooting from the hip here. Not sure about the com patability of the components your describing, in order to assemble the upper yourself, but Unless your planning to run a suppressor, or switch to a low mass BCG, you really should have no need for an adjustable gas block.
  22. Am I correct in that the gun pictured is not the new AK-12 described in the article? I don't see any of the picatinny rails that are mentioned. It looks like an AKSU-74 SBR. I thought that the Nikonov AN-94 was the new current issue carbine?
  23. Then you should be GTG. Is the barrel he's supplying, an Armalite brand barrel, or just an Armalite type? Have you already decided what you want to use for a gas block and hand guard?
  24. I'd give this a try. I wonder if this thing is tuned to work with their lightened .308 BCG? That would be a neat setup in a competition .308 AR.
  25. Please disregard my last post if this is in fact an Iron Ridge upper. I took a quick look and thought it was a Mega.
